The solution is heavy because running it on laptops consumes a lot of memory and power. Typically, a laptop battery might last about eight to nine hours, but with the tool running, it reduces to two hours or one and a half hours at most. It is designed to handle large projects and heavy tasks, making it resource-intensive. For smaller projects, use IDEs like Visual Studio Code.
I think there are a few areas where PyCharm could improve. Firstly, the pricing for the professional edition can be quite high, especially for users who need access to advanced features. Next, the user interface and overall user experience could be more intuitive to make it easier for users to navigate and utilize the software effectively. Another aspect is PyCharm is specialized for Python development, it would be beneficial if it could support a wider range of languages to cater to diverse programming needs. PyCharm could optimize its disk space usage in the next version, perhaps by introducing a lighter version or implementing features that reduce the storage footprint. This would be especially helpful for users dealing with a significant amount of code and projects.

There is room for improvement in memory usage. It uses too much memory. It can get a bit heavy, especially when you have too many open files and the system becomes very slow.

PyCharm's use of system resources can get pretty heavy. Loading, in particular, takes longer than I would like and I think they should optimize it so that it's a bit lighter on the system. Another way they could improve PyCharm is if they made it possible to connect directly with various workflow products such as GitLab or Git. Direct connection integrations with these products would add a lot of value.
The solution does not support some features of OpenCV even though it is part of a PyCharm package. Open CV is used to develop software that involves computer vision tasks. It seems the solution is not fully updated to use the latest PyCharm packages. I would like even more support toward robotics-related software tools. For example, support of ROS, ROS 1, and ROS 2 development would ensure that I continue to use the solution.
I'd like to be able to use Notebooks in PyCharm it would be good to have that ability. It's there but not as intuitive as the other features in the solution. They give some functionality to use Python Notebook, but it's not great.
Customizing the tool can make it complicated.

They should improve the product's interactiveness. There could be a specific feature for it similar to Visual Studio Code.

Its performance could be improved. It should consume less memory. There should be support for the RUST plugin in the Community edition for debugging.
