As per my view following are the few essential features that are required in a Test Management tool,
1. Tool should be user friendly and should have easy access to maintain the Project/Testcases/Defects, etc.,
2. Tool should trigger proper alerts to the assigned user on any changes on their assigned/created tasks.
3. Tool should be versatile and should have options to incorporate/plugged-in with mostly available automation tools(UFT, RFT, Ascential Test, etc.,) for defect creations and monitoring and Build tools like(Jenkins etc.,) for automated executions
4. Tool should have essential metrics calculation tools on the efficient reporting of Project completion status
