I made sure they are what they advertised. I went to their website, saw their product in detail, read reviews. To me it is important that you spend some time on evaluation of a service you are going to buy.

One should always look for the core features if they work well or not. Extra features such as forwarding, videos, recording and special analytics they should be put secondary. One should ensure that the basic features work perfectly - afterall that is why you bought the app.

The most important aspect of any provider is their office setup. One mustn't be afraid to visit their premises and call upon their management and sales staff. I agree with the other gentleman below me, who posted a very similar tip.
The behavior of their employees/sales/tech is a good indicator that whether this service is going to last with you or not. There are other companies providing same services for same pricing, my partner and I chose Panterra because of their customer services and friendly attitude. I personally cannot work with an arrogant account manager even if their product is flawless.

I looked at their team, I visited their office and met with their management. A company's setup shows a lot about its product quality.

I agree wit Nigel, one must thoroughly evaluate a service.
