Project Description
Gary was assigned as a Senior Project Manager responsible for managing multiple application development (AD) projects for AAFC, in addition to managing the IBM team that is also responsible for concurrently providing ongoing application maintenance (AM) services to multiple business departments. Reporting to and working closely with the Manager, Farm Income Delivery Systems, Information Systems Branch, Gary is responsible for:
Managing multiple concurrent custom AD projects for several Ottawa-based business departments, while delivering ongoing AM services and production support for the Java-based applications developed by the IBM team.
Managing the IBM team who work closely with IT (Information Technology) and Business customers to plan, estimate, and deliver application enhancements, in addition to ongoing AM services delivery. There are usually five or more application release projects running concurrently, with upwards of fifteen releases annually. Releases range in size from under one hundred thousand to several hundred thousand dollars, with a total annual resource budget of over $4.0 Million dollars (fiscal year 2020-21).
The IBM team is composed of eighteen team members (October 2021), including business analysts, DBAs, architects, developers, and test analysts. The project team utilizes an IBM Rational Unified Process (RUP)/Agile methodology and complies with AAFC and Government of Canada mandatory project management, architecture, security, application development and operational processes.
Delivering all required processes for project definition and start-up, project resource management and team leadership, coordination with the business departments, project delivery, status reporting, contract management, financial and scope management, and risk and issue management.
