Project Description

Business Requirements:

The basic purpose and use of the proposed solution is to provide a storage data availability solution. Followings are the key business requirements accordingly listed as per discussion with customer's personals.

>>Customer is already using NetApp FAS2220 storage system and need to establish another data availability site to protect the data in case of data loss situations in existing single site environment.

>>The data availability solution should be proposed be recovery point objective (RPO*) of 1 Hr and recovery time objective (RTO*) of one-day.

*RPO is the pointing to the duration between failure time and the time when last backup was taken. RPO of one hour means you will be able to restore an application or dataset to a point no more than an hour prior to the time the outage occurred. *RTO is the total time required to restore the service for users.

>>The exiting storage (NetApp FAS2220) disks and/or disk-shelf should be re-used to save Customer's existing investment.

>>If technology upgrade is necessary to get the desired results, then data migration to new NetApp storage should be included within the proposed solution.

>>For presenting storage data to host, existing network infrastructure should be used as a first choice to get a cost-effective solution, however if additional SAN switch or HBA’ for host to storage connections is necessary to get the desired performance and data availability then the required hardware components should also be included in the proposed solution.

>>The performance SSDs should be included in the solution to get maximum performance for exiting Oracle database environment.

>>The useable space for SAS disk capacity should not be less the 30TB inclusive of the required disk space for local snapshot copies that may be required as buffer to transfer the data to remote site.

>>The dedicated useable SSD disk space for Oracle DB environment should not be less that 1.6TB inclusive of the local snapshot copies that may be required as buffer to transfer the data to remote site.

>>The storage should be inclusive of built-in 1TB flash capacity or better to get storage level additional performance.

>>Storage performance should be capable to handle performance requirements for 4 x MS Exchange servers, 4 x MS Active directory, 4 x MS HyperV and Active directory based File servers.

>>The solution should be covering to use exiting tape library for DR site with exiting Symantec Net backup.

>>The solution should be inclusive of centralized disk-based data availability software suite licenses that can be used storage to storage data availability including application aware snapshot copies/Backup for MS-Exchange, HyperV, Active Directory and Oracle Database.

>>The solution should be inclusive of centralized Storage management software to use with both primary and remote site storage systems.

>>Onsite hardware replacement warranty of 3 years is required from date of delivery.

>>Onsite data availability software support is required for three-year period from the date of delivery.

Lessons Learned

It would be almost the same way forward.
