What do users discuss in their application performance management reviews in 2017?
What have their experiences been so far this year?
In the excerpts below, users discuss valuable features and room for improvement for the following solutions:
AppDynamics APM
As one of several valuable features, Sid Roy, Vice President - Operations & Client Support at a tech services company with 51-200 employees, points to “low infrastructure overhead and footprint”:
“Low infrastructure overhead and footprint, which go hand in hand. Low invasive processes for care and feeding of the solution in extremely large scale environments…
Despite dozens of deployments across hundreds of applications - we have yet to see a case where AD is negatively impacting application execution or functionality.”
A DBA at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees suggests how AppDynamics APM could improve further:
“It would help to maybe have a more graphical interface and more user-friendly graphics. I don't think that Java is so adaptable since the marketplace has improved a lot. Thus, they have to improve in terms of the GUI.”
CA APM
Felix Mendes Sutarelli, Computer Technician at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees, shares which features he most values and why:
Detection of errors that occur to users
Measurement of response time
Transaction traces
“Currently, we have in our park 600 servers monitored with the APM, and we have on average 2000 applications still to be included in the monitoring. As our environment is very large and we support all of them with a team of about 20 people, we cannot verify all the logs looking for these errors. So, we set up rules in APM to warn us when the application starts to present errors and we already interact directly with the development team to handle these errors.
This is also true for the average response time. The tracers use the same ones when a more in-depth investigation of the problem is necessary to discover the exact point of the problems that we are investigating.”
Ryan Combe, Data Analyst at Frost Bank, suggests an improvement that would involve simpler reporting:
“I'd like some simpler dashboards; some easier reporting. Everything looks a little too technical. To show our executives, it needs to look a little nicer.”
New Relic APM
Abdullah Aldebas, CEO at Shared Technologies, describes how his agency successfully uses New Relic as an integrated solution with Drupal CMS:
“We are a web development agency, focused on Drupal CMS. As New Relic is already integrated with Drupal, we can get our projects done with best practices and with the best value that we believe in.
New Relic provides deep analysis for data and server health so it lets us know of network bottlenecks before we deliver the project to enhance our product. Therefore, we can be sure that we deliver the best value for our customers.”
Ken Maier, CTO at a financial services firm with 51-200 employees, shares how in addition to their current benefits, the INSIGHTS query and dashboarding capabilities could “expand even further with more options for querying.”
Dynatrace
Randall Hinds, Program Manager - Enterprise Command Center at a financial services firm with 10,001+ employees, writes about Dynatrace’s agentless transaction analysis feature:
“Agentless Transaction Analysis allows my team to granularly decompose complex operations and flows for business applications.
Combined with SSL decryption, this capability helps my team to see the exact path a real user's transaction takes with meaningful metrics captured at every hop.”
Arda Haliloglu, Computer Engineer at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees, writes about how Dynatrace could be improved:
“If you have many distributed servers, you will need to install or migrate every agent. This can be a problem if you have too many, and it takes time.
Customer service is good but I got answers late for some tickets opened recently.
PurePaths that start from method sensors (method entry points) cannot be grouped in any application and displayed under DefaultApplication.”
HPE AppPulse Suite
Carlos Gattoni, Mexico Operations Manager at Tsoft, shares:
“The thing that I like about AppPulse is that it's an easy application to install and an easy application to use to provide information for our customers. They have different views; some technical for us, and some technical for the customers.
We are able to create different dashboards within AppPulse for business information. It's a great tool for different companies as we can create different mobile applications.”
José Carlos Granados Chillon, Director of Information Technology at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees, suggests further improvements:
“I think they can improve the feature that identifies the operating systems, the brand of the devices, the response time, geolocalization. Security is also important because we also use Fortify, another HPE tool, to identify whether there is any security breach.”
