NetApp ONTAP is scalable. They have two types of scalability, "scale up" and "scale out." With "scale up," you can get up to petabytes of data if you have the money to buy those servers and add them to the system. And "scale out" also, you can buy additional controllers, up to 12 nodes, which is pretty good when you are a big company. I rate the scalability a nine out of ten. NetApp is one of our organization's main storage systems. Every application is scattered on all of our NetApp devices. Applications won't run without it because they need to pull data from NetApp ONTAP.

We manage all of our storage with it. In terms of the version, we're in the process of going to the newest version. It's probably 9.12 Resiliency is the big one for us. Its ease of use, for the most part, through the interfaces is valuable. It's very expensive. I have been using this solution…

NetApp allows a lot more ease to conduct business, especially with the customer. In our organization, a lot of solutions may seem simple, but we have to get through the hoops. For government security reasons, it is very hard to find solutions, and NetApp has done a very good job at being IL6 compliant. They have made it easier for us to be compliant with our customers. It allows us to speed up processes that normally would take days. That is the way we currently use it. We are still looking into other ways we could use it, but right now, it allows us to transfer and move data extremely faster than what we were doing before. It is at least 60% to 70% faster.

"The single management plane in NetApp ONTAP, with BlueXP and Cloud Insights, is valuable. It allows us to see globally all physical and cloud-hosted systems within one management plane, which is a big plus."

"One of the challenges we have is the ability to tag data with ownership for internal billing and chargeback. We have to utilize some third-party tools for that. It would be good if they were integrated with NetApp ONTAP. Everything else is pretty good."
