What is Windows Server AppFabric?

Windows Server AppFabric extends Windows Server to provide enhanced hosting, management, and caching capabilities for Web applications and middle-tier services. The AppFabric hosting features add service management extensions to Internet Information Services (IIS), Windows Process Activation Service (WAS), and the .NET Framework 4. This includes Hosting Services and Hosting Administration tools that make it easier to deploy, configure, and manage Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) based services. The AppFabric caching features add a distributed, in-memory object cache to Windows Server that makes it easier to scale out high-performance .NET applications, especially ASP.NET applications.

An important feature of Windows Server AppFabric is its networking capabilities. Our customers have multiple computers running the same applications, and downtime is critical. The ability to seamlessly deploy, image, and patch without causing downtime is extremely helpful and user-friendly. We also supply our own computer machines to our customers, and this feature is crucial during deployment.

My colleagues use the product to improve our company's web applications performance. I look at the server side of the tool in my company. I don't deal with the tool's caching mechanism. The monitoring and management part of the tool is good for the services of the servers used for applications in our company. A minimum of two people in our company are required to take care of the to maintain the product on a weekly basis. I recommend others opt for safe services that can be used for their businesses. I rate the tool an eight out of ten.
