Room For Improvement

No sentiment score available
IBM NS1 Connect can improve by enhancing API, bulk changes, traffic management, DNS configurations, testing, and dashboard usability.
Sentiment score
4.6
Amazon Route 53 needs improvements in handling requests, security, automation, user-friendliness, domain management, DNS checks, and configuration efficiency.
No sentiment score available
We can monitor our endpoints and points of presence around the world.
For example, I would like to be able to say, 'Show me the top 10 records by total queries' in an easy-to-digest format.
Right now, as far as I understand, there is no way to do atomic changes to a DNS configuration. You need to make changes record by record and apply.
There could be improvements in the configuration process, particularly in the options provided during setup, such as subdomain configurations and certificate management.
There is room for improvement in restricting access through one website from S3 buckets.
Error tracing could be made more intuitive.

Scalability Issues

No sentiment score available
IBM NS1 Connect efficiently scales to meet traffic demands with automation, low error rates, and global operational reliability.
Sentiment score
8.3
Amazon Route 53 is highly scalable and flexible, offering fast deployment and effective load balancing, benefiting numerous businesses.
No sentiment score available
We run more than 4.5 billion queries per month on our DNS, so it's pretty critical that they can handle that volume and it's been going pretty well so far.
The solution has helped us to meet SLAs and customers’ demands, without adding complexity.
This product provides the scalability we need to help meet SLAs and customers' demands without adding complexity, which is very important to us.
We haven't faced any scalability issues, thanks to its integration with AWS services.
The scalability is maintained by AKS, and Route 53's scalability part is primarily involved with load balancing.

Setup Cost

No sentiment score available
IBM NS1 Connect provides competitive, value-driven pricing, satisfying enterprises with fair costs for high request volumes and advanced features.
Sentiment score
4.8
Amazon Route 53 pricing is mixed; some find it cost-effective, while others prefer cheaper alternatives like Google DNS or GoDaddy.
No sentiment score available
We used to pay about $20,000 with Dyn every month, for lower volume than we're doing right now, but it had none of the features that we have available with NS1, so it was worth it for us.
I would say that you get what you pay for.
NS1's pricing is much more aggressive than its competitors in the market.
Route 53 is more expensive.
The pricing of Route 53 is slightly higher compared to other services, however, it is justified by its high availability and reliability.

Especially, since we have the Dedicated DNS as well, our setup of NS1, as a whole, the Managed and the Dedicated, is very stable.
We use auto-scaling groups to manage load.
The solution is stable.
I have not experienced any outages or downtime.

Balances cost and functionality, speeds up provisioning, and reduces the DNS maintenance work drastically
The provisioning is great. They have an API service that is simple to use and very quick. The changes that we make are replicated worldwide in a matter of usually milliseconds, sometimes seconds. They are done very rapidly. That's something that's obviously priceless when we're dealing with things like DNS. It is great as an API-first platform for DNS and application traffic management. It is very simple to use. It allows us to rapidly provision and deprovision things. We are all around happy with the solution. From a metrics standpoint, the solution that we came from had no metrics. So, it has been great. Their service team is excellent in taking the time to provide reports for both growth and strategic planning. It has been great.

Provides clear documentation, easy to understand, simplifies management and efficiently handles our domain-related configurations and DNS records
For initial setup, we generally use provisioning tools for these kinds of DNS records. The choice often depends on the cloud provider and the Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools the client prefers. We adapt our approach accordingly rather than focusing on a single method within Route 53. The documentation is very user-friendly. Even someone with no prior experience can easily understand it. It provides step-by-step instructions and explains things in a clear and concise way. You can find everything you need to know about Route 53 and its features in the documentation, including white papers. In addition to manual configuration, you can also use third-party tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CloudFormation templates to manage your Route 53 configurations.

It improves our security by providing a single source of IP address usage and contact information
As a defense contractor, we must meet many compliance standards regarding logging, configuration, and administrative access. BlueCat is one of the few products that combines all the compliance components in a secure, reliable solution. Integrity requires some technological expertise and a full-time employee to run the system. It is one of several technologies that my group manages, but maintenance requires minimal effort. Upgrading and deploying the solution is a bigger task, but it is easy to maintain once it is running. BlueCat Integrity offers a single pane of glass view for our IP address space. From the GUI interface, you can see all the IP addresses and roll them up to the colored views of usage and availability. That capability is critical because we have multiple groups that are off on their own in a cloud environment. We can avoid IP address overlap by checking that as we add different projects. While I've worked at this company, we've had more than 50 acquisitions. As we acquire these companies, some IP addresses may overlap. We can integrate those, see the spaces, and adjust.
