Has an easy initial setup process and has valuable database performance monitoring features
In one of the scenarios, a retail company encountered transaction failure issues. The problem was not with the card or payment system but the database operations. By utilizing AppDynamics, the team traced end-to-end transactions and identified a database latency problem. Monitoring the entire end-to-end system allows us to pinpoint performance issues in the database. Tracking the user journey helped us identify the issues between the middleware and the database. The topology view feature helps in effective monitoring. However, this feature was developed six years ago and still needs to be updated. The application needs broader improvements and reshaping for this particular area. Database scaling or migration projects play a supportive role throughout the development, monitoring, and troubleshooting phases. During development, it integrates seamlessly with the SDLC. It detects and resolves performance issues, ensuring database availability and minimizing downtime. I rate it an eight out of ten.

Great for service discovery and load balancing and enables us to monitor the traffic flow
We use InfoVista 5View NetFlow on a private cloud. This product has improved the way our organization functions through the better discovery of services. We check the IP address for Office 365 and other cloud applications used in business operations. We use InfoVista 5View NetFlow to understand the cost of the problems on our network links. We monitor the traffic flow and check which application is causing a lot of traffic. Instead of buying more bandwidth, we target the pocket with very high traffic. We move these applications so that the traffic is served through another partner. From Milan to Rome, we use various utilities for network load balancing for applications requiring excessive traffic. We monitor the traffic with InfoVista 5View NetFlow before going to the business and checking the on-site location for problems or issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AppDynamics is scalable. They can monitor billions of transactions because they're not monitoring all transactions. They're monitoring samples. So, they can offer good monitoring for the huge sites."
"Visibility to the end-users is a valuable feature."
"In my experience, it's easy to use. There's nothing complex to learn or fear. You can quickly adapt to it without the need for extensive training."
"The feature that is most valuable to us is the snapshot feature. It allows us to get a snapshot of different SQL scripts that are being executed simultaneously and we can identify everything we need on them."
"To be honest, it's a fantastic product."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring's dashboarding is its best feature."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring's most valuable feature is the ability of the out-of-the-box to update the information, provide various metrics, and possibly include custom metrics."
"The most valuable feature in this solution, for our business, is the clear way of projecting the connections between the database and the traffic inflow. This is very helpful when troubleshooting issues."
"InfoVista 5View NetFlow allows us to control the application layer and manage API connections, i.e. Facebook logins or whatever other third-party API services we require."

Cons

"The product lost its place as an industry leader."
"The day-to-day activities should be less complicated so that anyone can manage it."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring would be improved with more support for microservices architecture."
"This product has an issue with initial lag upon opening that we would like to see improved."
"I believe they need to increase their level of visibility in the infrastructure, particularly in the infrastructure monitoring section, which currently lacks visibility."
"I would like the solution to be more customizable to meet our client's requirements."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring would be a better product if it could support new technology, such as cloud technology. Even Dynatrace lacks support for newer technologies."
"The application end of AppDynamics Database Monitoring needs to improve by checking which applications consume licenses."
"A little bit better documentation on the details is needed because this subject is not easy sometimes to understand, which limits the capability of the software."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If one is expensive and ten is low price, I rate the product price as seven out of ten."
"One of the main downsides to the solution is its cost."
"I give the price a five out of ten."
"The licensing scheme is very complex. They need to make it easier."
"The license for AppDynamics is procured by our customers."

"We have purchased a few licenses for AppDynamics Database Monitoring and the price is high."
"In terms of pricing, I feel that when you compare the benefits that we get to the price that we paid, it is reasonable."
