Although a fantastic backup system, it is very complex.
Although a fantastic backup system, it is very complex. Installation can take anywhere from 35 - 95 min (depending on the system resources) - prior to setting up any backup sets. Disaster Recovery is one area where Asigra requires some re-thinking. At this time the procedures for Disaster Recovery are even more complex then the initial installation. The DR set up must be the same as the original Backup Setup - naming conventions, unless well documented could increase the recovery time significantly. The constant checks and re-checks, although great for data integrity, affects recovery times - once installation of the recovery system is completed a database recovery must be started and then a synchronization of data files (which can take countless hours - depend on amount of data and available bandwidth). Only after all this is done the data recovery can begin. Bare Metal backup is great and works well, although recovery of systems to dissimilar hardware is difficult IF possible. Physical to virtual (only available to VMWare) is complex and requires VMWare tools be installed and configured...configuration can be difficult. For businesses that have Bandwidth issues Recoveries are difficult as interruptions or disruptions may require restarting the recovery of all files again and again until there are no network issues. Test recoveries on secondary systems are difficult - require stoppage of backup systems. Setting up a recovery server can be difficult as at times it may require stopping backup for a day or more depending on the tests run (for Disaster Recovery). For general test recoveries run of the original setup no extra setup is required.

Reliable with good support but needs a better navigation menu
We use Veeam Data to back up our VMware infrastructure Veeam Data Platform is valuable for its stability and the ability to easily contact support for assistance. The support team provides answers whenever we need them. It is also one of the most scalable backup solutions I've worked with. The…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has been very stable."
"I have found all the features useful in the solution."
"It has helped us to provide comprehensive data protection with high recovery rates and a malware scanning feature."
"The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level."
"A simple and stable solution for small businesses that use virtualization."
"Veeam Backup & Replication is definitely very useful and simple to learn, and the restoring processes are very straightforward, making it a very solid product."
"The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope."
"Veeam Backup Replication's snapshotting and cloning are the most valuable features."
"Most of the features that we can use with HPE products are directly integrated with the Veeam. This is very important for the customers to have only one pane of glass to manage the backups and also use the HPE products for the backups."
"Setting up Veeam is easy, and it's portable, too."
"Veeam Backup & Replication is a great alternative to what is out there. Some of the backups just allow an agent backup to the cloud. You can back up a thousand different ways, but this is a great way to keep a customer and a company in compliance in that they've got their data secure onsite and offsite. The data being transferred to the NAS at the customer's location and also the data being sent to the cloud is encrypted in transit and it's also encrypted at rest so that nobody is going to be able to hack into that. No one will have the keys to do that."
"The most valuable aspects are the latest features in version 12.1, which introduced enhanced security features."

Cons

"They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data."
"The management could be a bit better."
"Lacks online training."
"I have a problem with the VM. When we started doing a backup, it takes a snapshot for our virtual machines, but when we try it two or three times, in some cases, our virtual machines go to a consolidated state. I don't know why this problem happens. But I still think Veeam is a top-ranking solution."
"When you want to restore files, you first need to restore the machine, and then you have to mount it, and then restore the files."
"I would like to see the Veeam cloud solution and Microsoft Office 365 included all in one platform."
"The product is missing some commonsense features and tools for an enterprise backup recovery product,"
"My biggest issue with Veeam at the moment is how the backup reports are displayed. We use the SolarWinds integration to generate consolidated reports for monitoring purposes, but we aren't getting all the available data shown to us in the way that we want."
"The user experience can be better, as it is one of the areas with shortcomings in the product."
"They could include better automation features for migrating VMs without further configuration for the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
"Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
"I understand from management that the DR component is too expensive."
"Pricing is not the cheapest, but you get a lot of value for your money."
"We pay every month for Enterprise Plus. There are no additional costs."
"Veeam Data Platform, it's pay-as-you-go. So, the more options you choose, the more consumption you have in monthly billing."
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication could be reduced. The customers are looking at other products because the price is higher than some of the competition."
"The pricing is reasonable and falls within the average range."
"It is relatively cheap."
"Veeam is more reasonably priced than some competing products."
