A seamless solution offering data encryption, quality service, and security encryption
Cloudian HyperStore needs to incorporate AI and predictive analysis. It would be helpful if the solution could analyze and predict how to manage data better. The end users should not have access to protected documents. They should be able to drop the documents. The capacity management dashboard can be better. We also want two-factor authentication using Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator as MFA. Hence, the user would access the console not just by logging in with a password and username but with third-party applications as well.

A solution that comes with several valuable features and excellent SAN storage
NetApp ONTAP is scalable. They have two types of scalability, "scale up" and "scale out." With "scale up," you can get up to petabytes of data if you have the money to buy those servers and add them to the system. And "scale out" also, you can buy additional controllers, up to 12 nodes, which is pretty good when you are a big company. I rate the scalability a nine out of ten. NetApp is one of our organization's main storage systems. Every application is scattered on all of our NetApp devices. Applications won't run without it because they need to pull data from NetApp ONTAP.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool has S3 capability. Its scalability is excellent. From a security and encryption perspective, the solution supports SSL encryption. It is a seamless solution offering data encryption, quality service, and security encryption."
"It is very durable and that is particularly important."
"The cost was the main reason we chose to use this solution."
"The most valuable features are its scalability and Amazon S3 compatibility because we can move back and forth with a hybrid cloud."
"It's much easier and faster to deploy our storage with ONTAP than some of the other solutions that we have."
"It has been very stable. We haven't had a significant outage."
"The initial setup and deployment were straightforward"
"It most valuable feature is its stability. A product has to be stable."
"I would rate this solution a ten because of what NetApp provides us from a quality layout. The partnership that they provide us and their assistance is very important and the work that they communicate with us on a regular basis is outstanding."
"Scalability is good. Now that we have the ability to add more nodes to the cluster, it's better. It allows us to grill our clusters allowing them to be larger and faster, without having to buy a whole new system."
"Deduplication, data protection, and NetApp block are some of the valuable features of the product."
"We use a lot of SnapVault and SnapMirror features for disaster recovery and daily backups to meet SLAs."

Cons

"Cloudian HyperStore needs to incorporate AI and predictive analysis. It would be helpful if the solution could analyze and predict how to manage data better. The end users should not have access to protected documents. They should be able to drop the documents. The capacity management dashboard can be better. We also want two-factor authentication using Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator as MFA. Hence, the user would access the console not just by logging in with a password and username but with third-party applications as well."
"As it is an S3 solution with the same protocol as the one we have with AWS, having better integration with AWS will be beneficial."
"It is a cloud-based environment and at times, it is not very simple to use."
"I would like to see more S3 integration with other vendors, objects, or instruments."
"It's very expensive."
"Scalability is a bit of a question. If we're only doing file-based storage, scalability is fantastic. If we are doing block-based storage through iSCSI or Fibre Channel, there are some significant limitations in the number of volumes and clients that you can put on a single data ONTAP cluster."
"They use a lot of PowerShell for managing things and there are still a few things that you can't do through PowerShell cmdlets that you can do in the native CLI. It would be nice if they got more of those added in."
"I would like the ability to perform backups in the cloud. That way you don't have to worry about building the data center. Everything's already in the cloud."
"It would be nice if they make it so that one can operate the console without the need for interface-related comments."
"They could also improve on their ability to back up storage."
"I would like to see volume efficiency come closer to what Dell EMC can do with, for instance, their XtremIO platform."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our fees are approximately half a dollar per gigabyte."
"The solution is cheap."
"We have been able to save about 3TB to 5TB of storage. We still need to do more on the compression bit, then provisioning, to save more going forward."
"Because of the dedupe technologies and Data ONTAP servers, we have saved 20% on hardware. This is a lot of money for us."
"In the past, you didn't have to buy separate products. They were mostly included with the purchase. In the end, it's more expensive to buy it separate than together. If you are going to need it, one package at the beginning is cheaper."
"We receive the best support for a lower price point."
"We have seen ROI, especially with the deduplication. We have a high ratio of deduplication and are way past 70 percent of our VDI, as we have almost 400TBs on our VDI. We have been able to save at least a quarter of a petabyte of space."
"There are specific workloads where some vendors provide better value, but in general, NetApp has done a far better on price than other vendors."
"ONTAP has helped our organization reduce its overall cost of storage (somewhere in the high millions)."
"NetApp ONTAP is moderately priced."
