A backup solution with better reporting and easy configuration
We were looking to replace our backup software and started doing a POC. During the POC, we realized the benefits of Clumio, especially given our small team. We always look for solutions that are easily manageable and not cumbersome. Clumio offers an easy interface, is simple to set up, and is easy to maintain. It provides a way to get daily reports directly from the software. Clumio has a straightforward setup; it involves deploying an OVF agent and connecting it to the cloud. Once connected, it begins backing up to the cloud. You can easily go to the cloud console and specify which servers need backups, and it starts the process. Different policies can be defined and assigned to servers, making the process much easier. Clumio also sends daily report emails, so every morning, we receive a report detailing what was successfully backed up and what failed. Their support is also good. If a backup fails twice, they proactively open a ticket and contact to resolve the issue.

Easy to use, quick to understand, and simple to set up
It's easy to use. It wasn't too difficult to start with. With most vendors, initially, you have a learning curve or configurations. In this case, Zerto was quick to understand. The dashboard was easy and the UI was simple. The experience is comparatively good with Zerto. The near-synchronous replication has not been used much. That said, it does help when talking about storage layers. The availability of the VMs is good. In terms of resiliency, there are a lot of benefits to it. Most have a recovery of 24 to 48 hours; Zerto has gotten recovery down to four hours. We've done a POC with a DR to AWS. It was limited, however, it worked well and there was support. We didn't run into any challenges. The effect on the RPOs has been excellent. It's been impacted greatly. Customers enjoy the shorter timeline to recovery. The customer confidence is high.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Clumio has a straightforward setup"
"The most valuable features of Zerto are the ease of use and recovery speed."
"We implemented Zerto because it is crucial for our organization, especially as we move into the cloud. We needed to ensure that we could retrieve data properly and migrate easily. The solution allows us to keep our users collaborating throughout the migration process, making it much quicker than our previous solution."
"If we had to deal with a ransomware event, Zerto would be one of the first things I would use, because it is going to be the fastest to restore data to a certain point. If there were a fire in our building, Zerto would be a big thing too, because we would shut down everything that's in our building. In most cases, Zerto is definitely one of the front lines. It's definitely going to be one of our prevalent DRBC layers of protection."
"Its automation and the ability to replicate and keep an RTO of just seconds is valuable. It is all automatic. Everything is pretty transparent on the backend. It is just point-and-go."
"Its ability to roll back if the VM or the server that you are recovering does not come up right is also valuable. You have the ability to roll back a few seconds or a few minutes. The rollback feature is great."
"Stable disaster recovery solution with a very simple setup and fast failover."
"Files can also be extracted from the VMDK at the remote site even when the VM is off."
"We can failover to an isolated environment and validate the application without impacting the production environment. We can do more testing in a non-impactful way..."

Cons

"They need to improve their SQL backup services"
"The product could benefit from improvements in automation, specifically in the area of failovers."
"Whenever we do a failover, there's a confirmation box that shows up later. It's a little hard to see sometimes... A popup to continue would be a little bit better because then you're not sitting and waiting for something and it's already there."
"In future releases, doing backups of the environment we need to be able to do hot backups of the database."
"When setting up Zerto, you have to set up VRAs. I would like to see those not be needed as much. They're a little cumbersome and take up a lot of VM counts."
"Zerto could be considered as a backup product but this is not true. So if we could consolidate and use Zerto for disaster recovery as well as everyday backup and restore for situations where we need to recover something, that would be helpful. Anyway, we think that Zerto will win with no competition in the Disaster Recovery process, so we stay focused on this. Now we are testing version 10 which include real-time ransomware detection, a new Cyber Resilience Vault and enhanced cloud capabilities and security: we expect more from these features for superior hybrid cloud security."
"It's pretty expensive per server."
"An area for improvement is the support because it gets really expensive. They need to make it a little cheaper. Support also takes time."
"Its price is a little bit on the higher side."

"The price is reasonable."
"I would suggest getting a dedicated, well-informed rep."
"The licensing cost is fair."
"Zerto is fairly expensive, but worth it."
"From a customer perspective, the price is okay. From an investor's perspective, however, it is a little bit high."
"It is not cheap, but it is reasonable for what it is offering. It gives me the peace of mind that my data is protected. It is worth the cost."
"Zerto previously had a perplexing licensing structure, but they have since resolved it by implementing a unified license."
