Facilitates data quality monitoring and AI governance with a complete suite of tools
When I initially started with Collibra, it was just a data cataloging platform with governance workflows around it. Now they have acquired a lot of other tools, or they have merged or acquired different platforms. It is a complete suite of tools for managing data. We can monitor data quality and take actions on the profiling results obtained by running data quality checks. Collibra helps catalog data assets, monitor the health of data assets, and take necessary actions. If we find data quality issues, it also provides a medium to capture those issues and how to remediate them. The workflows allow the creation of custom workflows based on needs. The newest addition in their tool suite is AI governance, which allows cataloging all AI models currently deployed or even in the pre-production stage. It helps document model meanings and the risks involved, thus managing all risks related to AI deployments.

Offers profiling and address standardization but can be complicated
Informatica Data Quality has its data warehouse, primarily using Oracle and some SQL databases. You need a database to host the data. The cleansed version of the data is stored in the data warehouse. It integrates with PowerCenter and other Informatica tools. The integration details can be complex, but a regional setup is involved in this process. Profiling smaller datasets, such as 10,000-50,000 records, worked fine. However, unexpected issues could arise with larger datasets, such as thousands of records or more, especially with tables containing many columns. Handling tables with fifty or more columns can be challenging, even in Excel. A mismatch in data types could cause the entire system to crash. Continual enhancements are being made to address these issues, which can be unique to specific industries like finance and healthcare.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Collibra Catalog has significantly enhanced data governance and compliance for our team, primarily through its valuable feature of endpoint lineage enabling visual representation of the data."
"Except for data quality, everything is perfect."
"Collibra Catalog is simple to use and user-friendly for those who are not technically inclined since it is easy to find while also easy to see data lineage diagrams."
"Collibra Catalog's best feature is the data quality checker."
"The workflows allow the creation of custom workflows based on needs."
"We have had no complaints about the stability."
"The data lineage capability is valuable as it shows how different sources are connected and how data flows, which is crucial for projects like migrations. Moreover, data lineage visualization in Collibra Catalog aids our data governance initiatives."
"We've used the solution for quite some time, so in our organization, the product is pretty mature."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to extract metadata from various sources- be it an old SaaS application or the latest cloud application."
"The application integration will give you more flexibility when dealing with APIs."
"The solution is easier to use compared to the other solutions."
"It has become an easy way to exchange information through any cloud application."
"I like EDC's self-service capabilities. You can put the catalog on the intranet inside the organization, so users can search for something. People in the research world have specialized systems, and you might find data from various places that sound similar."
"The solution scales well."
"It is very useful for testing purposes and designing mappings for small projects. If you go for IDQ in the mapping itself, you can see the data. You can then correct it, and test it so easily. It is working fine. It is also stable, scalable, and easy to deploy."

Cons

"I'd like to see more integration with other reporting sources."
"Collibra Catalog could improve its automation to increase the efficiency of the software."
"If the price is a bit reduced, that would be better."
"A key area for improvement in Collibra Catalog lies in its integration capabilities, particularly with a broader range of sources."
"The tool's overall functionalities need to improve since, nowadays, many tools, from a business perspective, are easy to use."
"If it can become more user-intuitive and work on integrating with communication platforms like Slack or Teams, it would significantly help business users."
"They could provide more robust performance for data integration processes. It would help in improving the data quality more efficiently."
"I have received feedback from certain teams and there is a steep learning curve to use this solution."
"We promote our code changes from a lower to a higher environment, which is highly complex when working with a multi-domain MDM like Informatica. This is the biggest obstacle for Informatica MDM, and I think they should change it because that's very time consuming."
"One area that needs to improve is the user experience because it is very complex. The trial version is very complex so it's not easy to start using the program immediately. You must study the rules first."
"Its cloud-based version has a few limitations compared to the on-premise version."
"If I compare it with other MDM solutions in the market, one thing that can definitely be improved is automation to help with the configuration. Currently, when we are creating any staging of base object tables, all the columns have to be configured manually in the Informatica Hub Console. A lot of tables and different kinds of business columns have to be configured manually. There should be an automated process for this, especially in the Dev environment. When people are creating tables and columns from scratch, if there is a backend automated process for that, it would be really helpful. In Stibo, a similar feature is there wherein you can tag attributes to certain objects. It would be helpful if Informatica also provides a similar option. It would reduce the manual effort. It could be that such a feature is already there, but I am not aware of it."
"It would be helpful if there was a GenAI feature integrated into the system, especially regarding the data quality."
"Informatica Axon needs more integration connectors so that it can connect to systems and different kinds of datasets."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is highly priced compared to other vendors."
"Collibra offers a per-user licensing model."
"Collibra Catalog is fairly priced - I would rate their pricing seven out of ten."
"I think they can bring a few more features and align better with other quality products."
"Our customers sometimes are able to negotiate a much better price for Informatica Cloud Data Integration based on their relationship with the vendor."
"Informatica MDM is a costly solution because it comes as a bundle. They are also globally positioning themselves and are definitely working on very upgraded technologies. If someone wanted to do it on the cloud, they have a lot of flexibility because they upgrade themselves according to the current needs. It definitely comes with a lot of features and that's the reason why it's costly. The licensing cost should be approximately one million dollars. It's about four to five times that of other vendors."
"So, there are plans for licensing. There are subscription-based and usage-based licenses. Also, there are licenses for exceptional analytics, etc. In short, there are different models of licensing for every enterprise."
"The product is not very pocket-friendly for small and medium-sized businesses, and it is understandable because of the kind of features the tool gives."
"The solution's pricing model is easy, but it is very expensive."
"I have heard from customers that the product comes with a huge license cost."
"We have licenses, and we are provided with certain particular services in the solution."
"I'm not sure about the most recent pricing trends, but I don't believe it's significantly different from PowerCenter. I believe it is nearly the same."
