Secure, easy to use, and dashboard works well
I use this solution with VxRail I have found some of the key features of the solution are it can be configured similar to Cisco, it is secure, easy to use, and the dashboard works well. In some configurations, I am unable to use two switches as one and it causes some problems. In the future, I…

Provides campus switches and access switches that are simple to deploy, but the code isn't stable enough for a leaf and spine design
If we're building a data center and have Juniper, we have hundreds of Juniper switches in a leaf and spine design architecture, and it's horrible. Sometimes after an upgrade, half of the even port can't be detected. They don't recognize third-party SFPs, and now they claim that they don't support that anymore. There are a lot of issues with the hardware and software. Juniper needs to get their code up to par because it isn't stable enough for a leaf and spine design. If you have over 10,000 VMs or Mac addresses, it doesn't scale. I would love Juniper to have more stable features, hardware, and code. We have so many tickets open with Juniper. The switch reboot doesn't detect the port. About 80% of my problems aren't engineering problems, but are Juniper's problems. In comparison, Arista gives me 10% of the problems that Juniper gives me when it comes to hardware and software. It's falling behind compared to Palo Alto because of its features. Juniper's campus switches and data center switches for the leaf and spine design for the overlay and underlay is horrible. I wouldn't recommend that anyone use Juniper fabric, because there are so many problems, issues, and features that aren't supported.

Pros

"I have found some of the key features of the solution are it can be configured similar to Cisco, it is secure, easy to use, and the dashboard works well."
"The most valuable features of Juniper Ethernet Switches are the simple configuration and ruggedness."
"The product is flexible and easy to set up."
"We have found the product to be scalable."
"We have multiple cases of the customers trying to upgrade their network from Cisco, Aruba and Huawei to Juniper. They do this basically because they want to modernise their network and have an increased capacity. This shift improves their functionality because the Juniper Ethernet switches are more advanced. We provide them with assistance to configure switches, access points and Wi-Fi."
"The Juniper Ethernet switch feature I find the most valuable is reliability."
"The campus switches and access switches are the most valuable and simple to deploy for Virtual Chassis."
"The tool's most valuable feature is stability."
"I like the simplicity of it."

Cons

"In some configurations, I am unable to use two switches as one and it causes some problems."
"Juniper Ethernet Switches would be improved by upgrading the uplink port in EX2300 categories service from 10G to 25G."
"Some areas of technical support could be better."
"The only issue that we have with Juniper Ethernet Switches is the firmware because it is not stable."
"Jupiter Switches' configuration is a little difficult to understand."
"Juniper should consider reducing its pricing."
"The upgrading of the system should be simplified and made faster."
"EX switches take too long to boot when we restart them for maintenance. We need to minimize downtime. Another issue is the command line interface. Juniper's commands are different from other switches, so it's hard to remember them."
"There are multiple areas of improvement in Juniper EX series switches. In terms of speed and pricing, while Juniper provides good quality services, some clients still find the price very high compared to other competitors. Also there is a need for certain features to be enhanced like clear our configuration process which will help to make Juniper switches more stronger. However, there are also multiple challenges including understanding and configuration of certain aspects difficult without assistance. Despite these kinds of challenges, there have been multiple solutions and huge potential of improvement in Juniper."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is fair."
"The price of the Juniper EX Series is reasonable. Cisco is a lot more expensive."
"The pricing of Juniper Ethernet Switches compared to equivalent switches from Aruba, Cisco, and others, Juniper Ethernet Switches are priced a little higher. They are approximately 20 to 50 percent higher. When we receive a new range of models, the prices can come down. The price can also vary by region."
"If compared to Cisco, this is a well priced solution. Compared to HP, it is a little bit overpriced. Overall, they are priced in the middle compared to competitors."
"Support prices and licensing scheme need to be improved to allow some features to be purchased at lower costs, for example, RPM."
"You don't need to license every switch. We only chose to cover support on core/key equipment and keep a cold spare available when needed."
"The solution does not require a license to use it."
"There is a subscription payment model or you can purchase licenses on a one, two, and five-year basis. If you want decent support, the solution is not expensive."
"The maintenance cost is approximately €2,000 ($2,200 USD) per year, including support, for our entire fleet."

Benefits of Juniper vs Cisco
Both are decent products. I prefer Juniper for the following reasons: 1) Cleaner separation of data plane from control plane. Higher end Cisco devices are better at this but most of the lower end products still seem to be more integrated than I like. 2) The Hierarchical config design means I can…
