Helps to save money and resources with the data compression feature
One point I'd like to improve is that the tool should start selling small boxes again. It discontinued some products and is focusing on bigger, more capable boxes, neglecting the SMB market. Even though it's not a big market, it shouldn't have removed them. One way to improve the product is to add an operational assistant that doesn't depend on VMware. It could also establish more alliances with other operational systems.

A tool that offers protection against ransomware and other enterprise-level attacks
HPE Nimble Storage's cost is very high, making it one of its downsides. HPE Nimble Storage's cost is very high compared with any HCI solutions, like HPE's SimpliVity, Nutanix, VMware, or Dell VxRail. A person requires a special skill set to operate HPE Nimble Storage because there are hardly any solutions similar to Nimble Storage in the market. The product's support can be made faster and more responsive if HPE trains its partners in such a way that they acquire more expertise on Nimble Storage through the training sessions. HPE Nimble Storage is dependent on only VMware vSphere Hypervisor. In the future, HPE has to make Nimble Storage feasible with other hypervisors like Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix Acropolis, and RHEV, meaning it should be hypervisor agnostic.

Maximized storage capacity and minimized costs and an easy setup
Most of our client base is between fifty to five hundred end users. We occasionally recommend high-end HPE products for larger clients needing performance and reliability. Our clients predominantly use HPE StoreOnce for small business purposes in industries like dairy and finance Our clients have…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are satisfied with the performance as it is significantly faster compared to traditional storage options."
"We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion."
"Everything, especially the VMs inside, is pretty fast."
"I appreciate the performance."
"The solution uses newer technology for deduplication and compression."
"The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes."
"Overall stability is very good. It is a very stable solution."
"The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability."
"The most useful features are high availability and the storage snapshot backup functionality."
"The most valuable features are the duplication and compression traffic. We have second storage that we can use for the synchronization of data between the data centers."
"VMware integration, why is pretty self-explanatory."
"HPE Nimble Storage is quick to release updates that fix bugs or problems and the failover has been good."
"The setup was very, very simple. When we got our AF5000, no kidding, we had it up in production within two hours"
"Its speed, ease of use, and it has been completely reliable."
"Nimble's support is awesome and one of the best. You sort of get a Tier 3 plus guy every time that you call, no matter if it is a Tier 0 issue. This is super helpful in case we ever have problems."
"Nimble Storage is a great storage solution which will give you a lot insight on the growth of your storage."
"The initial setup process is simple."
"HPE StoreOnce works well, it is stable."
"The scalability is very good."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its UI. The product's UI makes it easy for users to configure the tool."
"Has very good deduplication and encryption features."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that the tool provides good value for somebody who needs an affordable and reliable storage solution."
"It results in more efficient storage utilization, cutting capital expenditure in half."
"Deduplication is the most valuable feature."

Cons

"The software layer has to improve."
"Adding some functions to the product would be beneficial. Storage replication should be essential, and the analytics should not incur extra charges."
"The UI for this solution needs to be improved."
"If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure."
"It's more multi-tenant functionality in their Pure1 manage portal that is lacking."
"Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe."
"It is on the expensive side."
"They could add more support for file storage and different types of storage."
"There should be faster interfaces."
"We have had some stability issues with one array which has happened twice during subsequent software updates but is due to a bad Postgres database."
"We would like there to be more enhanced features."
"HPE Nimble Storage provides only SAN-based storage and does not support NAS-based storage."
"The solution needs to be an active-active controller."
"We face challenges with hardware delivery."
"The solution could improve by having more granularity. For example, having the ability to go deeper into specific IO channels or specific latency issues that can happen would be a benefit. HPE has this ability on their side but it would be useful to have it on our side."
"An area that needs improvement is extending the life of the device after five years."
"It is difficult to solve issues with this solution remotely. I prefer to use the knowledge base platforms. The response time could improve."
"The setup phase is not so simple that an end user can plug and play to make it operational."
"While StoreOnce has many features, it needs to focus on integrating with third-party backup software solutions."
"Cloud integration needs to be simplified."
"The solution would be improved if it could also be used as a data store for VMware."
"One item I wanted to see is SSD drives as a cache, and that was, for a time, still lacking in StoreOnce, however, they have done it now. It's not available yet, however, it will be shortly."
"We stopped investigating because we were not really happy with the application."
"The repository should have an extension to connect to the cloud and deposit the backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pretty much everything that you need is licensed when you buy the product. Licensing to me is different than the maintenance cost, but they can bleed into one another. We buy the product, and we expect three years of support bundled into what we negotiate on our storage arrays. I would start to see maintenance costs going into the fourth year, but we're not there yet."
"Given its price, Pure is not the first option."
"We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
"The product is expensive."
"The support cost per array is about $20,000 a year for 24/7 support."
"As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
"With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
"The tool's pricing is cheap; I rate it a six to seven out of ten. Most of our sales are not subscription-based. We sell the hardware, and customers keep using it. They only renew the service part annually. The support can be a bit pricey, but the solution is more cost-effective than anything else out there."
"We have seen tremendous ROI. It pays for itself 10 times over in the matter of four years."
"There is a monthly fee to use the solution."
"HPE Nimble Storage didn't require a license at the time."
"The pricing for this product is somewhat high."
"We buy the arrays outright, so we don't pay anything on an ongoing monthly basis for licensing."
"The solution’s licensing is on a yearly basis."
"We don't require a license. If we used HPE InfoSight, then we would require a license, but for our needs, we don't need one."
"We paid about $80,000 for our permanent site licence."
"I would rate it around two or three because, compared to others, it tends to be higher priced."
"I rate the platform's pricing a seven out of ten."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"There are costs for additional storage and space."
"The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
"The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
"With the same capacity of Data Domain and ExaGrid, which is 80 terabytes, HPE is the cheapest one."
"The licensing costs is capacity-based and come bundled with support."
