We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance.""It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good.""It's incredibly easy to use and greatly simplified our ability to both deploy and manage our storage subsystems.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use.""Offers excellent features like efficient data reduction, a reliable SafeMode, and a great support model for continuous assistance and updates.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""The most valuable feature of this solution is reliability.""We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion."

"Last year, I did a DM Series installation with my colleague, and this installation was effortless because we had Lenovo support on the phone, so it was easy to get help if we had any problems.""The value we derive from using it is greater than other alternatives like HPE and Dell.""The most valuable feature of the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is its ability to store data well.""The solution offers very good reliable systems and storage for our clients.""The most valuable feature of Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is its capability to tier to the cloud, such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS. Additionally, the integration is good and they are user-friendly.""Scalable and stable storage array.""The FlexClone feature is the solution's most valuable aspect.""We are satisfied with the stability."

"It has also helped to simplify storage for us in the way that it's easy to manage. Their automatic monitoring really helps when things break or are about to break. They see a problem coming and alert us even before our own system does.""It has absolutely simplified our storage because the dashboards on the consoles show a clear understanding of where you are, and it is also very easy to provision. This been a big help for our teams.""The solution is able to handle workloads and is easy to use. It allows us to actually manage the boxes in less time.""The most valuable feature of this solution is performance.""Using this solution has made our backups more reliable.""It's very easy-to-use.""I would rate this solution an eight plus. It has has good flexibility and stability, it's easy to manage and the response time is good.""The ease of deployment and management has helped us simplify our storage. We also do not have to worry about capacity management as much. A lot of these things are native to Pure Storage."

Cons
"Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe.""Our use cases require more multi-tenant capabilities and additional VLAN interfaces for separating different customers. We currently use it to provide storage, sometimes shared storage, to different customers, but it is less flexible in comparison to a dedicated solution.""I'd like to see the product implement active replication for vehicles such as VMware.""You cannot tag a LUN with a description, and that should be improved. What I like on the Unity side is that when I expand LUNs or do things, there is an information field on the LUN. This is the Information field that you can tag on your LUNs to let yourself know, "Hey, I've added this much space on this date". Pure lacks that ability. So, you don't have a mechanism that's friendly for tracking your data expansions on the LUN and for adding any additional information. That's a downside for me.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution.""We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency.""In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"The solution needs a simpler licensing theme around the DM series. The problem is if you only need one of the features, you still have to buy the whole thing. The licensing needs to be more granular or flexible so you have the option to only license FlexCone or Inline Compression features.""The tool's pricing is high.""The solution should change the licensing model and allow customers to choose features based on their requirements.""I would rate the support of Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series a four out of five.""It takes a very long time to enter the management console, as well as to restart the system, and these are things that should be improved.""Many people do not realize that Lenovo has a storage solution, so better marketing from the vendor is needed.""The licensing model needs to be revisited. It needs to be simplified.""This is an expensive solution."

More Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series Cons →

"The technical support needs to improve. When we open a case, it is auto assigned to a support tech person. Nine out of ten times, we get an email right back saying that person is off until tomorrow. I cannot handle that. They just did this over the weekend to us, too. I had to call our rep and have them do something about it.""I would like to see better integration.""I would like to see more VM-Aware features in the next release of this solution.""I have not seen ROI.""I would like to have Snapshots and Snapmail in the next release. People who came from a NetApp background, especially expect these features.""Pure Storage FlashBlade should improve on more cloud integration.""On our dedupe during our initial buy, we were expecting a number a little higher like 4x. However, we are getting about 3.6. While it is close enough, it doesn't quite hit the numbers. So, this has been a challenge.""I would also like to see better support for CIFS workloads."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "Lenovo offers two software tiers for the DM Series: basic and premium. If you need more features like the MetroCluster, you must buy the premium version. You can stick to the basic software if you don't need MetroCluster or features like asynchronous replication. That makes DM Series a little cheaper."
  • "The price of the Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series is good."
  • "The solution is highly-priced."
  • "The solution's pricing is similar to Dell and HPE."

  • "We used a reseller for the purchase."
  • "Our customers have seen a reduction in TCO."
  • "I have seen ROI. It has allowed me to increase the density of my VMs without having to purchase anything additional."
  • "Our licensing is renewed annually."
  • "Support is a separate line item. Support is a different cost, but whatever your support is now, that's what you're going to pay forever. If your support's $100 today, six years from now it's $100. It doesn't fluctuate unless you upgrade it, or change it, etc."
  • "The price is a little high."
  • "In my opinion, we have paid the right price for the product. I don't think that it is too much or too little."
  • "The price of this solution could be made more affordable."
