It consolidates all logs into one place and provides required features and functionalities
Every once in a while, our IBM cloud operational implementation gets behind. Sometimes, when we have a customer event, we do not get access to the latest logs for about 30 minutes, particularly for the sites that are heavily utilized. This is clearly not good. It is impossible to do RCA when you can't look at the logs that pertain to the time period in which the event occurred. It could be more of an operational problem than a feature problem. I don't have visibility about whether it is a LogDNA issue or just an operational issue.

Log analysis has transformed incident resolution and now boosts daily development productivity
I wish Splunk Cloud Platform is a little more scalable. Whenever we are trying to scale up our storage, currently it stores the logs up to three months. If we want to search for prior logs after three months, we cannot find it because it stores the logs only up to three months. Suppose an incident has come up and changed to a PRB, and that PRB was created more than five or six months back, we will not be able to find the root cause because logs will be deleted automatically after three months. That is one thing I wish it to be scalable. It is not beginner-friendly because all the information or the payload that it sends or shows is kind of concatenated, compressed, and everything. To get used to it will take some time, but you will get used to it with time. It is a best tool, and I would recommend it. I wish Splunk Cloud Platform did not search all of the logs. If you were to search with the primary key of a claim number, it searches with hundreds or millions of similar entities, so it takes a lot of time to search that particular log which I am trying to search. The searching time is a little more. We occasionally face a little bit of server issues, but the customer support is helpful. We lose some time as well in that server downtime.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We haven't had anything yet that we couldn't do through LogDNA."
"LogDNA consolidates all logs into one place, which is super valuable."
"With LogDNA, which brings all the logs together in an interleaved stream, it allows us to take a transaction and relate it to other contextual events making the gathering of evidence for auditors and our internal RCA much more productive."
"The solution aggregates all event streams, so that if there are any issues, it's all in the same interface."
"The most valuable features are reliability and logging. It's in the cloud so it has more stability and easy maintenance."
"We became pretty complete with our reporting using Splunk for all the log and event capabilities."
"The ability to correlate data and then present it in a meaningful and valuable way is crucial."
"What I like about Splunk Cloud Platform is the easy reading of the dashboards and finding the data, which brought me the biggest benefits."
"Splunk Cloud Platform has greatly improved my daily operations through enhanced integration with third-party tools."
"Overall, Splunk Cloud Platform is cost-efficient for us because we are Splunk partners, and it offers better performance."
"The most valuable feature for me is the flexibility of being able to send the log to the https endpoint."
"Not having to maintain any infrastructure is valuable. That frees up a lot of time as well."

Cons

"No ability to encapsulate a query or a filter, and communicate or share that among the team."

I don't have visibility about whether it is a LogDNA issue or just an operational issue."
"Scalability could be improved; we are using it through the IBM cloud deployment and on some of the data centers that are very heavily used, there is a significant lag in the event stream, sometimes 10, 15 minutes behind, which makes the RCA impossible."
"Every once in a while, our IBM cloud operational implementation gets behind. Sometimes, when we have a customer event, we do not get access to the latest logs for about 30 minutes, particularly for the sites that are heavily utilized."
"The only disadvantage of Splunk Cloud compared to Splunk Enterprise Security is that you only have two options for long-term storage: AWS S3 Buckets and GCP."
"The security connection should have a seamless integration. Other than that, the way we are using it, so far, it seems quite good."
"Extracting meaningful insights beyond essential log data proves challenging due to the product's reliance on manual processes."
"There are a lot of functionalities that are missing for Splunk Cloud hosted on GCP but they are available on AWS. Adding more IPs to allow lists and many other functionalities are not supported on Splunk Cloud hosted on GCP. One good example is the ingest action which is not there in Splunk Cloud hosted on GCP. I wish they would add these missing features to the GCP platform."
"Splunk Cloud's SVC licensing model lacks transparency."
"Every time they launch new versions, we experience a few bugs. The most recent version had a couple of bugs in the databases. We contacted the vendor and got assistance solving these bugs, so the environment is more stable."
"It needs to mature; it's just getting established in the industry on a wider scale."
"The training models can only be accessed for 30 days, even if it is paid training."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I do not know what that is anymore. I have not been involved with that for a couple of years, but I know we are paying a lot."
"As far as the pricing goes, it was what was expected. It is a premium product. There were no surprises there."
"Splunk Cloud Platform's pricing is a little on the higher end."
"There are additional features that you would need to purchase depending on your use case."
"The pricing model makes this an expensive solution."
"I do not have much idea. We previously used 1 GB at the cost of $600. Both on-prem and cloud licenses have the same price. There is no difference. It did not impact the cost because the costs of the on-prem license and the cloud license are the same. We did not have any issues with that. Overall, its price is reasonable."
"My company has a license for Splunk Cloud Platform. My company also has a license for Splunk Enterprise."
"Splunk Cloud Platform is an expensive solution."
