Cloud-based network storage solution with an auto-extension feature
The solution is used for NAS, which includes CIFs and NFS The solution works the same on the cloud as on on-premises, so we sometimes access the on-premises features even though we use the cloud version. There is hardly any difference. However, the performance depends on the disc type used and…

Ensures effective management of multiple cloud environments, seamless integration with major providers like AWS and user-friendly interface
The backup and disaster recovery process within the Data Platform is exceptionally user-friendly. Whether you're performing a backup or restoring data, the graphical user interface makes it straightforward. All capabilities can be accessed with ease, thanks to the intuitive design of the interface. The reliability of the Veeam Data Platform has been consistently satisfactory in our deployments. We have encountered no issues, and all of our clients have expressed satisfaction with its performance. We are particularly pleased with the DIP, especially given our focus on the Nutanix platform. DIP with Nutanix virtualization has been especially valuable to us. The inclusion of important functions and capabilities, such as ransomware protection and scanning, was crucial. It's noteworthy that these features are already available in version twelve, which is a significant enhancement. When utilizing Veeam to manage RTO and RPO objectives, the primary focus lies in minimizing recovery time (RTO) and ensuring effective project or object management. Branches, especially those with high IO and ITO demands, such as those in SANX deployments, prioritize data visibility before backup and archiving. Typically, lower RPOs are managed by the recovery features of the virtualization layer. Our primary aim is usually to achieve the shortest RPO feasible within the specified parameters. However, in our deployments, the shortest configured RPO is based on the specific requirements of our clients. Managing multiple cloud environments with the Veeam Data Platform is highly effective. The platform offers robust support for major cloud providers like AWS. I've personally tested its integration with AWS and iOS and found it to be extremely straightforward and user-friendly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For us, the value comes from the solution's flexibility, speed, and hopefully cost savings in the long term."
"The most valuable features are tiering to S3 and being able to turn it on and off, based on a schedule."
"With NetApp, you can integrate malware scanning or malware protection. This is something valuable that is not offered in SaaS solutions typically."
"Its functionality and technical support are adequate to help prevent failure due to errors."
"The ease of use in terms of how the product works is valuable. We are able to work with it and deploy the storage that we need."
"We're able to use the SnapMirror function and SnapMirror data from our on-prem environment into Azure. That is super-helpful. SnapMirror allows you to take data that exists on one NetApp, on a physical NetApp storage platform, and copy it over to another NetApp storage platform. It's a solid, proven technology, so we don't worry about whether data is getting lost or corrupted during the SnapMirror."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of file storage."
"We use the mirroring to mirror our volumes to our DR location. We also create snapshots for backups. Snapshots will create a specified snapshot to be able to do a DR test without disrupting our standard mirrors. That means we can create a point-in-time snapshot, then use the ability of FlexClones to make a writeable volume to test with, and then blow it away after the DR test."
"I have been in contact with technical support and they are very good."
"It most valuable features are seeding and faster backups over small links."
"It is a rock-solid backup solution. That's all, and that's what we were asking for."
"The product’s configuration and settings are very easy."
"It's very easy to work with and it's very reliable."
"It is a straightforward solution. There is no need for a dedicated technical person to do the backup and replication. Veeam is very straightforward when it comes to doing the replication."
"Veeam replication gives migration tools/options for VMware."
"I think Veeam ONE is a good product to supervise and monitor infrastructure and for backup purposes."

Cons

"NetApp CVO needs to have more exposure and mature further before it will have greater acceptance."
"Not a perfect ten because it's not very efficient with upgrades and management."
"The dashboard is a little bit clunky. I like to see it a little bit more on the simplistic side. I would like to be able to create my own widgets and customize what I want to see a little bit more versus what is currently there. That would be helpful so that when I log in, I go straight to my widget or my board without going to multiple places to get to what I need to find or build."
"The navigation on some of the configuration parameters is a bit cumbersome, making the learning curve on functions somewhat steep."
"We've just been dealing with general pre-requisite infrastructure configuration challenges. Once those are out of the way, it is easy."
"The solution could be better when we're connecting to our S3 side of the house. Right now, it doesn't see it, and I'm not sure why."
"The product is more restricted with underlying cloud."
"The only area for improvement would be some guidance in terms of the future products that NetApp is planning on releasing. I would like to see communication around that or advice such as, "Hey, the world is moving towards this particular trend, and NetApp can help you do that." I do get promotional emails from NetApp, but customer-specific advice would be helpful, based on our use cases."
"In future releases, I would like to see the solution provide auto resolution and auto relocation of resources."
"One challenge that we have encountered was on the long-term retention of data. Be sure to look into a dedicated deduplication appliance."
"For our company's usage, the price of the product is considered to be one of the major drawbacks because we have a lot of infrastructure, and its services don't fit well with our needs."
"I prefer a software backup solution that allows me to easily define my origin data, including data files, folders, and virtual machines."
"Backup speed should be increased, and there should be more functionality."
"The price is an issue. If one has a large number of servers, say... 100-plus, and wishes to add more, an exhausted budget may hinder this ability."
"Sometimes Veeam is not that effective when it comes to legacy environments."
"Veeam's support services need improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's pricing is reasonable."
"It is expensive. There are no costs in addition to their standard licensing fees."
"For enterprise customers, it's a very cost effective. But in the SMB segment, yeah, pricing is a little bit challenge for your time."
"Some flexibility around the licensing model would help. The product is licensed based on capacity. Basically, the largest capacity license that you can buy is 368 terabytes. At this point, NetApp is addressing some people's concerns around this."
"Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
"If we wanted to use the AWS solution, we would have to manage two or three different platforms and pay more money than what we should have to pay, as some of the features don't even exist. If we wanted to, we could use AWS cloning, but it is useless because it uses more space, is more expensive, and takes more time."
"They give us a good price for CVO licenses. It is one of the reasons that we went with the product."
"The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
"Veeam Backup Replication has a lot of free features. We have a mixture of the paid versions as well as the community version. They are really helpful to us."
"Customers require a perpetual license for the product. However, along with the license, they must also subscribe to the support service for one year or three years under a separate contract."
"The pricing structure for Veeam ONE has changed to what is now called the "VUL" or "Universal License". Previously, people mainly used socket licenses, but this has now changed. The new pricing structure was introduced last year."
"Its pricing is really good."
"Our licensing fees are paid yearly and the cost is about $12,000 Swiss Francs ($17,400 USD)."
"Veeam is quite expensive. There are no additional costs to the licensing fees. IBM Spectrum Protect is also expensive. They should improve its pricing. They raise the price every time there is an increase in the features of the product. They should think twice about that."
"Its licensing is very simple. We can make changes very easily."
"The software subscription model can be once a year, or every three years, or every five years."
