Veeam Data Platform is scalable, adaptable, and suitable for diverse environments, with some cost concerns on additional licenses.
It wouldn't help with outages either; the scaling is manual, and there are no processes we've used to automate that for unexpected scenarios.

Integration with other vendors is also seamless.
Solutions Architect at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees

Room For Improvement

NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP users seek improved scalability, integration, ease of use, and features like security, monitoring, and cloud compatibility.
Veeam Data Platform needs better integration, speed, support, flexibility, and affordability to meet user demands for large environments.
My opinion is that support is generally very good. There are instances where they take longer to respond or resolve issues, especially when customers have urgent needs, but ultimately, resolution is achieved.
Technical Specialist at Softcell Technologies Limited
It would be nice to see technology supporting the Elastic Fabric Adapter on Amazon AWS, therefore getting RDMA technology for more low-latency connections.
Principal Consultant at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
The improvement we would like to see is the option to scale Veeam Data up in smaller sections rather than large sections, which requires paying much more.
L3 Infrastructure Engineer at Specsavers
OpenStack is something Veeam Data Platform doesn't support, and they haven't indicated that they will support it in the future.
Applications section Head at Raya Integration
Reducing it by 20% would make it more accessible to a broader range of customers.
Solutions Architect at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees

Setup Cost

Enterprise users enjoy NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP for its features despite higher costs, with discounts available for extended commitments.
Veeam Data Platform offers reasonable pricing with predictable per-CPU socket licensing but can be costly for smaller businesses.
I believe it is not expensive; it's the regular price.
Sr. Production Analyst at a logistics company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Veeam Data Platform is more expensive than OpenStack because we pay for it in US dollars, while we pay for OpenStack in Egyptian pounds.
Applications section Head at Raya Integration
A reduction of 20% in the current cost would make the solution more attractive to clients.

Offers advanced features with notable emphasis on innovation
The best features of NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP include deduplication, compaction, and autonomous ransomware technology that native cloud storage solutions in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud do not support. Moreover, NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP allows the use of multiple protocols including NFS, CIFS, and iSCSI, whereas native options may only support NFS and iSCSI. Customers already using on-premises NetApp storage such as FAS, AFF, or ASA can experience the same functionality on the cloud with NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP, which adds significant value. For data protection, customers can take advantage of the Snapshot technology available with NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP. This technology facilitates data recovery by allowing snapshots to be stored either on the same storage or on a disaster recovery (DR) storage. NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP helps us to take snapshots and store them on the same storage, with options for migration or replication of those snapshots to different storage, including on-premises DR storage or other cloud storage, providing excellent disaster recovery capabilities.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
