Enhancing database management with operational efficiency but needs better compatibility
Era should be compatible with various environments, such as VMware and Red Hat, to be hypervisor agnostic. Due to increasing adoption among enterprise clients, integration with Kubernetes platforms is also needed. Furthermore, the product can benefit from improving its understanding of architectural setup and communicating its limitations to users and partners.

Technical support is okay, but it has issues with stability and performance
We have our own data center with a lot of servers running on the Linux platform This platform has issues with stability and performance. I have been using Oracle Coherence for only a couple of years. In total, I have about 30 years of experience in the Oracle environment. I began with Oracle…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Overall, the solution is very good. It's easy to use and simple to handle many actions, such as VM cloning, testing, and prediction."
"The solution enables us to speed up the creation of new instances."
"The most valuable feature is its robust infrastructure management tools."
"We have an enterprise-level backup product that we're required to use, so we don't rely on Era's version. [But] it could be an awesome first-line backup. It's very elegant the way they designed it. It's quick and it doesn't take up nearly as much storage space as traditional backups. It would definitely help to save on tier-one storage."
"The solution allows quick setting up of new development environments and ensures the use of the storage more efficiently. It manages to create new clients to be utilized for development or reporting."
"One feature that is very good is the backup and validation process that's built into Era."
"With Oracle, it took around one hour to refresh the database and now, with Nutanix, it takes a quarter of that time."
"Management and provision are the most important features of Nutanix Database Service."
"Technical support from Oracle is okay."
"Coherence is beneficial due to its multi-indexing to the same object and filtering based on data attributes within the object, followed by aggregation."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in the pricing structure."
"Era should be compatible with various environments, such as VMware and Red Hat, to be hypervisor agnostic."
"We faced some performance issues with Nutanix."
"The solution needs to improve compatibility with other back-ups and products."
"We have a regular license program because it's really expensive."
"The initial setup was a little tedious and complex. If they could make the setup slightly more user-friendly, then that would definitely be beneficial. If they could give a clear indication of what ports are required across the business and multiple VLANs, then your prep work can be done beforehand and before you do the actual installation. Because the documentation that was provided was not 100 percent accurate, so we had to do a lot of custom firewall rules after we deployed Nutanix Era."
"There will always be room for improvement, there is nothing perfect from day one. There are some technical challenges that we have with NDS. I believe with time it will be sorted out."
"If there were data integration services included with the platform then it would be interesting, and it would help us a lot."
"The initial setup is complex and time-consuming."
"This platform has issues with stability and performance."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is expensive."
"Era is quite expensive. The thing that will be a showstopper for them in the long run is if you look at it from a technical perspective on what it provides and weigh it up against consolidation of multiple other software suites."
"Not everyone can afford it. It's a bit expensive, so the price has to be improved."
"There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Licensing costs will be the main scalability problem."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"The pricing is competitive."
"The tool is expensive."
