We performed a comparison between OpenText Data Protector and Veeam Backup & Replication based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Backup and Recovery solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The file system backup (by far, the most used) is the most valuable feature."
"The most valuable feature is the capability to back up our SQL server."
"It's user-friendly and not overly complicated to configure."
"Data Protector's granular recovery features make it easy for us to create and restore backups in an understandable and user-friendly manner. With granular recovery, any database or even just a database table can be restored at will."
"Data Protector is very good at automation. From the time of the backup, verification, and copy to tape, it is very good. I don't need to touch it, it will do it by itself."
"The most valuable features of this solution were the features we worked most with which were telemetry, and the scheduler."
"Regarding scalability, it's unlimited with Data Protector. You can link multiple installations and let them work together. They can share backup devices. You have many possibilities with Data Protector. It's very proficient."
"Deduplication implementation with CAPA is very good."
"The solution does a good job with VM backups."
"Storage Snapshot is a good feature and very safe."
"The technical support is good."
"Provides lots of reporting and visualization of how much data has been transferred."
"A quick-working solution that is very user friendly."
"In Veeam backup, the most valuable feature for me is the recovery. It allows me to recover almost immediately while I continue fixing the problem of the affected machine."
"Veeam Backup & Replication is a great alternative to what is out there. Some of the backups just allow an agent backup to the cloud. You can back up a thousand different ways, but this is a great way to keep a customer and a company in compliance in that they've got their data secure onsite and offsite. The data being transferred to the NAS at the customer's location and also the data being sent to the cloud is encrypted in transit and it's also encrypted at rest so that nobody is going to be able to hack into that. No one will have the keys to do that."
"The replication feature has proven to be the most valuable feature for us."
"Micro Focus Data Protector must improve its overall evolution record. They need to focus on hardware based instant recovery, client recovery, and cloud ability. Now there is no cloud ability."
"In SAP restoration, we faced issues with changing the SIDs and changing the path for every backup object. It is quite a lengthy process to do that."
"I do not think that this solution is relevant in the current IT market. They have not upgraded their features and functionalities which makes it difficult for them to remain competitive."
"The scheduler setup could be better. We are facing some issues scheduling the job based on our requirements."
"Virtualization."
"The technical support was very slow."
"Many of our users complain about the GUI. You still need to rely on the command line interface. Because it originated as a Unix system, Data Protector is still a command line-driven solution, which makes it seem rather dated compared to systems that are built around a GUI from day one. It doesn't affect the functionality, but some people don't find it user-friendly."
"We have a lot of requests for the Micro Focus team, particularly in terms of the Japanese data pattern, as it's not as good now. The Japanese data pattern accuracy of the Micro Focus Data Protector needs to be improved because there are a lot of false negatives and false positives. We are currently testing this and our product team has been communicating with the Micro Focus team."
"I don't see much room for improvement except that the price could be better."
"The one downside to Veeam is that they don't have a cloud product of their own."
"The DR component should be part of the comprehensive package, not separate."
"There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine."
"It is efficient but can improve security-wise."
"The initial setup was not straightforward at all."
"In Linux, I suggest you backup for a PostgreSQL database."
"The ability to do more backups should be addressed."
