Performs real-time replication without data loss, but we cannot do much automation
The setup with the classic GoldenGate architecture was easy. Oracle has now moved to Microservices Architecture. It is a real pain. There are a lot of new things we have to learn. I rate the ease of setup of the classic architecture a seven out of ten. For Microservices, I rate the ease of setup a three out of ten. The deployment takes a couple of hours. We need one system administrator to deploy the tool. We need to maintain the tool. We are a team of four people. We need at least three people for maintenance. The time taken for maintenance depends on how big the environment is. We spend a lot of time on maintenance because our environment is big.

A cost-effective and easy-to-use tool that needs to introduce AI features
Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service is easy to use, and currently, it has become more easy to understand compared to its previous version. Opting for an on-premises tool is something for which we have to spend money, but Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service offers services in a very cost-effective manner. Features like getting the backup of a system or making any updates are areas that are much easier to handle. It is a tool that you can directly move from production to UAT, after which you can make your changes and move it back to production if everything is fine, and that too without any downtime.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Many of the features of Oracle GoldenGate are valuable. We use Oracle databases and this tool is from Oracle, making it have superior compatibility."
"CDC is the most valuable feature."
"The product's initial setup phase was very simple."
"One feature that stands out for me is the data center capability."
"The product is reliable for data integrity."
"I am impressed with the tool's possibility of integrating different systems in a unified place."
"The product's microservice architecture is scalable."
"What I have found the most valuable about GoldenGate is that it does real-time and no-downtime migrations. Its migrations are fast. There are not many tools like it on the marketplace."
"Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"GoldenGate can aggregate various data types from different sources."
"GoldenGate's best features are the desktop security features."
"We are heavily involved with GitHub for managing repositories, automatic deployments, and inner source projects."
"This has significantly eased the process of migration from on-premise to cloud. Instead of configuring everything from the ground up, the Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service has made it seamless to build and render databases in cloud."

Cons

"Oracle GoldenGate could improve the price."
"The front-end management isn't very good."
"In some cases, expectations were not met, especially when specific tables were expected to be disabled, and changes were anticipated in the target environment. We had to take backups from the source and refresh the address to address this."
"The process of transforming the data between two different databases is inefficient and needs to be improved."
"The product is not easy to use."
"We struggle with memory. It's limited. However, it may be because of our unique business case and how we use it that it's limiting for us."
"Oracle GoldenGate's installation is not user-friendly, we had to read a lot of documentation for the setup and configuration."
"I would like to see the interface more graphical and easier to use."
"The initial setup was a little complex, and we required support from Oracle to complete it."
"Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service lacks AI. If AI gets introduced in Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service, it would be much easier to do analysis."
"Support could be improved. They lack knowledge."
"More technical documentation is needed, especially in terms of mapping and conversion of data, while integration would also be very helpful."
"Oracle is always adding new features. I can't think of anything that's urgent currently."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Oracle GoldenGate's cost is high."
"The tool needs to improve its pricing."
"Pricing is based on anual licensing with additional costs for support packages."
"The one feature that I think Oracle could perhaps consider is, at the moment, the Veridata option is an extra cost. Golden Gate is an expensive product. You pay a lot for the best. But not including the Veridata license to prove that everything is working correctly... The big improvement for me would be to have that license built in. That would take it to the next level. That would make it a much better product. You may want to look at buying term licenses if you've just got a single migration to do. In that situation, you might want a term license for perhaps a year to save a lot of money, rather than buying a perpetual license."
"Oracle GoldenGate's license can be expensive compared to other solutions like Qlik Replicate or SAP Replicate."
"The solution would be costly for a small organization."
"The price of Oracle GoldenGate should be lowered. It is expensive compared to other solutions."
"Oracle GoldenGate is a high-priced solution because it follows the core-based pricing model versus the software-based pricing model of other solutions."
"I rate the product price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
