Performs real-time replication without data loss, but we cannot do much automation
The setup with the classic GoldenGate architecture was easy. Oracle has now moved to Microservices Architecture. It is a real pain. There are a lot of new things we have to learn. I rate the ease of setup of the classic architecture a seven out of ten. For Microservices, I rate the ease of setup a three out of ten. The deployment takes a couple of hours. We need one system administrator to deploy the tool. We need to maintain the tool. We are a team of four people. We need at least three people for maintenance. The time taken for maintenance depends on how big the environment is. We spend a lot of time on maintenance because our environment is big.

Has a plug-and-play model and provides good robustness and scalability
The solution's community support could be improved. I don't know why the Spring Cloud Data Flow community is not very strong. Community support is very limited whenever you face any problem or are stuck somewhere. I'm not sure whether it has improved in the last six months because this pipeline was set up almost two years ago. I struggled with that a lot. For example, there was limited support whenever I got an exception and sought help from Stack Overflow or different forums. Interacting with Kubernetes needs a few certificates. You need to define all the certificates within your application. With the help of those certificates, your Java application or Spring Cloud Data Flow can interact with Kubernetes. I faced a lot of hurdles while placing those certificates. Despite following the official documentation to define all the replicas, readiness, and liveliness probes within the Spring Cloud Data Flow application, it was not working. So, I had to troubleshoot while digging in and debugging the internals of Spring Cloud Data Flow at that time. It was just a configuration mismatch, and I was doing nothing weird. There was a small spelling difference between how Spring Cloud Data Flow was expecting it and how I passed it. I was just following the official documentation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The live application feature is most valuable. The solution is stable. I rate it a seven out of ten."
"With Oracle GoldenGate, you can easily sync the tables and put them into the ODS database."
"I am impressed with the tool's possibility of integrating different systems in a unified place."
"Since the world is going towards open source, the solution's heterogeneous data migration feature is very useful."
"It works best with Oracle."
"What I like most about Oracle GoldenGate is that it supports cross-platform migrations. For example, Oracle GoldenGate could pump data from one type of system to another such as the data from Oracle DB to SQL Db2."
"The CDC feature is interesting."
"It moves the data as you set it up, and it works. I am also very impressed with its stability and scalability. It is not super feature-rich, but the new releases have more functionality. It recently had more native integrations with Oracle Database. If you are using it against an Oracle database, it has a lot more functionality."
"The dashboards in Spring Cloud Dataflow are quite valuable."
"The most valuable features of Spring Cloud Data Flow are the simple programming model, integration, dependency Injection, and ability to do any injection. Additionally, auto-configuration is another important feature because we don't have to configure the database and or set up the boilerplate in the database in every project. The composability is good, we can create small workloads and compose them in any way we like."
"The solution's most valuable feature is that it allows us to use different batch data sources, retrieve the data, and then do the data processing, after which we can convert and store it in the target."
"The most valuable feature is real-time streaming."
"The best thing I like about Spring Cloud Data Flow is its plug-and-play model."
"There are a lot of options in Spring Cloud. It's flexible in terms of how we can use it. It's a full infrastructure."
"The ease of deployment on Kubernetes, the seamless integration for orchestration of various pipelines, and the visual dashboard that simplifies operations even for non-specialists such as quality analysts."
"The product is very user-friendly."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in Oracle GoldenGate's pricing, which is a bit high."
"The solution's licensing price is very expensive and could be made more competitive."
"The solution sometimes has issues with long transactions and replication delays. Its pricing needs improvement."
"GoldenGate is expensive. It's costly because this solution is unique in our market. The GoldenGate Cloud Service is cheaper than the on-premise solution."
"The solution costs a lot."
"Troubleshooting issues is not always the easiest. It should be easier to troubleshoot. Their support can also be improved. They don't read your problem statement and waste a lot of time. GoldenGate for big data is actually a separate license. It is sort of a separate product, but it might fall underneath your GoldenGate category. If we're talking about big data, its interaction with big data sources is poorly documented."
"The solution is quite costly, and if they could reduce their pricing, it would be more economical to implement."
"It should be easier to integrate this solution with non-Oracle databases, including cloud-based solutions hosted on Azure."
"Spring Cloud Data Flow could improve the user interface. We can drag and drop in the application for the configuration and settings, and deploy it right from the UI, without having to run a CI/CD pipeline. However, that does not work with Kubernetes, it only works when we are working with jars as the Spring Cloud Data Flow applications."
"There were instances of deployment pipelines getting stuck, and the dashboard not always accurately showing the application status, requiring manual intervention such as rerunning applications or refreshing the dashboard."
"On the tool's online discussion forums, you may get stuck with an issue, making it an area where improvements are required."
"Spring Cloud Data Flow is not an easy-to-use tool, so improvements are required."
"The configurations could be better. Some configurations are a little bit time-consuming in terms of trying to understand using the Spring Cloud documentation."
"The solution's community support could be improved."
"I would improve the dashboard features as they are not very user-friendly."
"Some of the features, like the monitoring tools, are not very mature and are still evolving."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The one feature that I think Oracle could perhaps consider is, at the moment, the Veridata option is an extra cost. Golden Gate is an expensive product. You pay a lot for the best. But not including the Veridata license to prove that everything is working correctly... The big improvement for me would be to have that license built in. That would take it to the next level. That would make it a much better product. You may want to look at buying term licenses if you've just got a single migration to do. In that situation, you might want a term license for perhaps a year to save a lot of money, rather than buying a perpetual license."
"The solution is highly-priced."
"Oracle GoldenGate's cost is high."
"The price of this solution is good."
"We have purchased corporate licensing to use Oracle GoldenGate."
"The solution would be costly for a small organization."
"We pay a yearly licensing fee for Oracle GoldenGate, which is very expensive."
"Its price can be better. It is a bit crazy, and its licensing is very difficult to understand. I would rate it one out of five in terms of pricing. There don't seem to be any additional costs."
"If you want support from Spring Cloud Data Flow there is a fee. The Spring Framework is open-source and this is a free solution."
"This is an open-source product that can be used free of charge."
"The solution provides value for money, and we are currently using its community edition."
