Effectively in identify and fix bugs early in the development lifecycle
When it comes to ShiftLeft, the most valuable feature is definitely its ease of use and cost-effectiveness. Previously, security professionals had to spend a lot of time and effort running around, asking people to fix issues in their products, architectures, code, and even networks. With ShiftLeft, everything becomes robust and secure from within. Instead of relying on external measures like Web Application Firewalls (WAF) that are applied from the outside in, ShiftLeft takes a proactive approach. It helps prevent issues from arising in the first place, making it much easier for both security teams and developers. It's also cost-effective because you don't have to constantly go back, make changes to the code, and then push it again. Writing secure code from the start ensures that there are no vulnerabilities when it goes live. So, I would say the main features of ShiftLeft are its cost-effectiveness and ease of adaptability or use.

Easy to integrate and has a plug-in that supports both C and C++ languages
The product provides false reports sometimes. It also fails to understand the context of the code. It reports that a line of code has issues without considering its relation with the previous line. The product should improve the report quality. While it asks us to improve the code quality, it would be good if it also suggests how to improve the quality.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When it comes to ShiftLeft, the most valuable feature is definitely its ease of use and cost-effectiveness."
"It assists during the development with SonarLint and helps the developer to change his approach or rather improve his coding pattern or style. That's one advantage I've seen. Another advantage is that we can customize the rules."
"It helps our developers work more efficiently as we can identify things in a code prior to it being pushed to where it needs to go."
"It is a very good tool for analysis despite its limitations."
"The reporting and the results are quick. It gets integrated within the pipeline well."
"We advise all of our developers to have this solution in place."
"I follow Quality Gate's graduation model within organization, and it is extremely helpful for me to benchmark products."
"Improve the code coverage and evaluates the technical steps and percentage of code being resolved."
"It provides you with many features, as it does with the premium model, but there are still extra features that can be purchased if needed."

Cons

"Having support from senior management is crucial in making it mandatory for teams to collaborate with the security team throughout the development process."
"I would also like SonarQube to be able to write custom scanning rules. More documentation would be helpful as well because some of our guys were struggling with the customization script."
"There are times that we have the database crash. However, this might be an issue with how we have configured it and not a software issue. Apart from this, I do not see any issues with the solution."
"SonarQube could be improved by implementing inter-procedural code analysis capabilities, allowing for a more comprehensive detection of defects and vulnerabilities across the entire codebase."
"I think the code security can be improved."
"We've been using the Community Edition, which means that we get to use it at our leisure, and they're kind enough to literally give it to us. However, it takes a fair amount of effort to figure out how to get everything up and running. Since we didn't go with the professional paid version, we're not entitled to support. Of course that could be self-correcting if we were to make the step to buy into this and really use it. Then their technical support would be available to us to make strides for using it better."
"One thing to improve would be the integration. There is a steep learning curve to get it integrated."
"SonarQube can improve by scanning the internal library which currently it does not do. We are looking for a solution for this."
"When we have a thousand products published over it, we expect it to be more efficient in terms of serving requests from the browser."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"People can try the free licenses and later can seek buying plugins/support, etc. once they started liking it."
"Get the paid version which allows the customized dashboard and provides technical support."
"As a user and a consumer of this solution, it can be pricey for my company to support and use, even though there are many benefits. For this reason, we use the free version. In the future, as our product cycles develop and evolve at a more steady pace, we hope to invest in the licensing for this tool."
"I do not know about the pricing as I am using the community edition, which is free. But I compared the pricing with Sigma, and it is higher than SonarQube."
"The price of the solution could be reduced."
"I am satisfied with the pricing."
"The free version of SonarQube does everything that we need it to."
"The solution is cheaper than other products."
