Reduces energy consumption by achieving the same results with fewer servers and more virtualization
Pros and Cons
- "We constantly upgrade to newer hardware, and everything stays the same but with updated architecture. This consistency is good for our technicians on the data center side. We also appreciate the integration with VMware. It keeps things simple for us."
- "We use PowerEdge servers in conjunction with VMware, a VCF Rack, and VxRail. That has worked out well. We are using it for firmware upgrades and other similar tasks. It's a one-stop shop, but it could be better when the servers aren't on a VCF stack. Profile handling and upgrading standalone servers could improve, but they have gotten better over the years."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
PowerEdge reduces energy consumption by achieving the same results with fewer servers and more virtualization. We're starting our AI journey with some AI workloads running on R750 servers. I don't have much insight into the applications, but I recommend Dell servers to colleagues who want to run AI workloads. In the end, the benefit outweighs the cost.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Dell servers for 20 years. I've used Dell PowerEdge servers at my current company for six years, but I used them at other jobs.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We don't have issues with PowerEdge except for occasional hardware problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We can easily scale PowerEdge. We have a good platform on the software side, so we just scale out with more servers. We have had some issues scaling up more ports, but that's hardware. Nothing scales to infinity. We've had no problem handling high-performance workloads. We upgrade every few years to the latest and fastest hardware when necessary.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Dell support nine out of 10. They've helped us get the platform running and perform remote upgrades. They've been a good intermediary contact point for discussions with VMware and Broadcom. I talk with the support engineer, who talks with the networking team or someone else.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have used HP and IBM Servers. Initially, we decided to adopt Dell because they offered a better price point. We are satisfied with the solution and will continue to use it.
How was the initial setup?
I rate PowerEdge eight out of 10 for ease of deployment.
What about the implementation team?
We deployed the servers using consultants this time, but we've used Dell professional services before. Our experience with consultants was good.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
What other advice do I have?
I rate PowerEdge Rack Servers eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Pros and Cons
- "We could install all the other accessories and cards the customer asked us to implement on Dell servers and integrate cards from different companies. Each requires a different OS. Dell helped us integrate all the systems."
- "When integrating the PowerEdge rack, we needed help from all the different companies to combine it with the servers. Each company has a system, and things must align with the server."
What is our primary use case?
We won a contract, and the customer preferred Dell as the OEM manufacturer.
How has it helped my organization?
PowerEdge is flexible enough to integrate the IOs we need into the server.
What is most valuable?
Dell's team supported us all the way. It's an excellent corporation, and customers here in Israel are different. They're difficult to deal with and constantly change their minds. We wouldn't have won this tender without cooperation from the CMS distributor and Dell.
We could install all the other accessories and cards the customer asked us to implement on Dell servers and integrate cards from different companies. Each requires a different OS. Dell helped us integrate all the systems.
What needs improvement?
When integrating the PowerEdge rack, we needed help from all the different companies to combine it with the servers. Each company has a system, and things must align with the server.
It would be better if they integrated Dell and Ubuntu, for example. It would be easier to handle the mission.
For how long have I used the solution?
We are in our first month of working with the Dell team.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
PowerEdge's overall scalability is excellent. We've got a great technical team.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Dell Professional Services 10 out of 10. They were excellent and were the reason we won the tender. They supported us. We had a whole team supporting us and providing us with answers. When we were implementing VxRail, they found the person in charge who gave us the correct information.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What other advice do I have?
I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers nine out of 10. We're happy with it.

IT Manager at a aerospace/defense firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
Upgrades, additional solutions, and system stability are much easier to achieve
Pros and Cons
- "SimpliVity's most valuable features are its unified management and operational capabilities."
- "The pricing always has room for improvement."
What is our primary use case?
Our internal infrastructure for multiple networks on our large site uses Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in VxRail clusters to support over 2,000 users, numerous labs, and development environments. These Dell servers function as the primary compute nodes within the VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure solution.
We implemented Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers because we were looking for a complete solution, and Dell was a strong contender. Their VxRail solution for SimpliVity offered implementation, upgrades, and support as a bundle, making it the ideal choice for us, and it has worked perfectly.
How has it helped my organization?
I put aside the monetary value. I'm seeking a more stable solution and fewer headaches for our IT professionals. Now that this solution is implemented, upgrades, additional solutions, and system stability are much easier to achieve. It's difficult to put a price on that, but it's an IT professional's dream come true.
To date, we have not encountered any issues with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers' ability to handle the evolving needs of high-performance workloads. Our data center has been primarily based on HP solutions for a considerable time, and we have only started incorporating Dell solutions into our infrastructure in the last three years. We are pleased with their performance, consider them a good product, and recommend them.
What is most valuable?
SimpliVity's most valuable features are its unified management and operational capabilities. It is amazing to have a single pane of glass to view, manage, and operate the entire environment without switching between Windows, software, or web environments.
What needs improvement?
The pricing always has room for improvement.
The support experience has room for improvement. As a secure site, we require personnel with specific clearances, and sometimes, the language barrier poses a challenge. English-to-Hebrew translation can impact various processes, particularly when troubleshooting errors necessitates collaboration with US or European teams across different time zones. Moreover, vendors occasionally request logs, which we cannot provide due to security protocols. The language barrier can make it difficult to clearly communicate our needs and issues to support personnel overseas. Therefore, we require more Dell technical support staff based in Israel.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for three and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers offer excellent stability. I implemented the Stretch Cluster as an active-active solution to handle scenarios such as a complete data center loss. To test the solution's robustness, I pulled the power cables from the server, simulating a potential real-world failure. Other vendors' solutions couldn't handle this, but Dell's appropriately performed, prompting immediate implementation. Now, I can confidently attest to its effectiveness. We've undergone data center and rack maintenance without any issues. Even during a complete networking loss over a weekend, the solution continued to operate seamlessly.
How are customer service and support?
Dell's Professional Services are fantastic. I saw some people at the convention who helped us implement our environment because we faced some initial challenges as it was a new product. They were all amazing. The professional services team I speak to on the phone when I have a crisis, an upgrade, or even just a random error message is incredibly professional and helpful. I have nothing but positive things to say about them—they're amazing.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use HP blade centers and rack servers as the foundation of our main data center. However, we are now transitioning to Dell Solutions, which offers comparable products from a different vendor, and we are happy with this change.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment was moderately complex. Despite the installation manual provided by Dell to their professional services team, there were always additional tips and tricks not mentioned in the manual. However, the Dell Deployment Services team was highly skilled and experienced, allowing them to anticipate and address any issues that arose, resulting in a successful deployment.
What was our ROI?
Choosing an active solution that I implemented cost considerably more money. However, the return on investment was evident when something occurred on the weekend while we were off-site. No one experienced any disruption beyond a simple virtual machine reboot, which was remarkable. The work continued seamlessly. Even if someone worked over the weekend, they could still come to the office on Monday. I wasn't bothered with any calls about malfunctions or outages.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers ten out of ten.

Rock solid, easy to use, and highly scalable
Pros and Cons
- "They are very stable. They are rock solid. I am happy with them."
- "I do not have any qualms or problems with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. However, when it comes to the software, some of their competitors are already feeding a lot of performance and availability data to an online platform. We have not seen that with PowerEdge."
What is our primary use case?
We typically use them for hosting in a private cloud. We use the 600 and 700 series.
How has it helped my organization?
I started using Dell servers when the 4th Gen came out. Currently, we are using 13th, 14th, and 15th Gen servers. Dell servers have grown a lot since the 4th Gen. When I buy Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I do not have to worry about them and their stability. There is also ease of deployment. Everything is very easy. Their ship time is also pretty fast.
They have a TPM chip. A lot of our customers who use encryption use that capability, and it just works. There are no issues with it.
We run them in our own data center, and they are fine in terms of energy consumption.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very good for handling the evolving needs of high-performance workloads. We were able to use PowerEdge to scale a lot of our compute nodes. A lot of our customers need a lot of high compute, so we are pretty happy with it.
Dell PowerEdge Servers have helped to reduce unplanned production downtime. They are very reliable. We never have any big problems with them. Our production downtime is now two times better than five years ago.
What is most valuable?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are easy to use. They are very stable. They are rock solid. I am happy with them.
What needs improvement?
I do not have any qualms or problems with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. However, when it comes to the software, some of their competitors are already feeding a lot of performance and availability data to an online platform. We have not seen that with PowerEdge. If it is there, we have not used it, but it would be nice if all this information is included as a part of PowerEdge. We can then see server performance and availability online.
For how long have I used the solution?
It has been a long time. I have used these servers before they were called PowerEdge.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
They are rock solid.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Their scalability is very good. Nowadays, you can put so much infrastructure into 1U or 2U servers, which is very impressive.
How are customer service and support?
They are pretty responsive. I would rate them a nine out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We also use a lot of Supermicro servers. Supermicro is very good in terms of customizability. They can also be a lot aggressive in pricing, so we use Supermicro for the low-end servers and high-end servers. We use Dell servers for middle-end servers.
How was the initial setup?
They are pretty easy to deploy.
What was our ROI?
We have seen an ROI. There is stability, ease of use, and not a lot of problems.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It has generally been very competitive. It is not the best, but it is very competitive.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten. They are very stable. They are very good.

Efficient support, easy maintenance, and good value for money
Pros and Cons
- "The maintenance and remote monitoring are valuable."
- "We are working with national markets, and HP Enterprise is cheaper. Dell could have made an effort there."
What is our primary use case?
We use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for data storage, data processing, and computations.
We must manage the data, and we have safety restrictions. It is imposed on us to not use the cloud. We do everything locally.
How has it helped my organization?
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are convenient. When we have a problem, we have a hotline that is efficient. They are also reliable.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers fit our resiliency needs. If we want to make them very resilient, we have presales engineers who are also technical. They are competent and able to help us.
The servers are fine in terms of energy consumption, but until now, we have not been very concerned about that.
They are aligned with our sustainability goals. This is very important for us when we buy a server. Previously, we used to get a five-year guarantee, and now, it is a seven-year guarantee, but we still have some servers working fine after ten years. We do replace them from time to time, but we do not have any problem with reliability. As far as the environment is concerned, we know that when we buy a machine, it will last a long time.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have helped to reduce unplanned production downtime. They are very reliable, and we usually function by doubling up. We use a couple of servers, and we move our VM from one server to another between two buildings. Because the servers never, or very rarely, break down, we have a very resilient architecture.
The OpenManage console has not really affected our IT staff’s productivity.
What is most valuable?
The maintenance and remote monitoring are valuable.
What needs improvement?
The problem that we have had is not a technical one but an economic one. In other words, we are working with national markets, and HP Enterprise is cheaper. Dell could have made an effort there.
For example, two or three years ago, we spoke to a salesperson or a presales engineer about replacing our infrastructure with file servers, but the price that we were offered was very high.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for about 15 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
They are stable. There is no downtime or breakdowns.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We are a small research laboratory, but we have a few teams working together. We might gather all of the IT equipment together and buy extensions and all that.
As far as scalability is concerned, it is not a problem. It is very scalable but very expensive. For our needs, it is very overpriced. I am on campus, and there are several units, but we have to merge by 2025 and put everything back together and work with people whom I only ever met at the canteen. We shall see then if all of that is actually very scalable and if we can put it all together.
How are customer service and support?
It is different for PowerEdge. It is a bit different for the PCs. For the servers, support is very good indeed. I would rate them an eight out of ten. We do not know why, but there was a time when the support did not respond quickly enough or go from one level to another. We do need the expertise if we happen to have something that does not work correctly, but it is sporadic. This kind of problem can appear all of a sudden and be gone six months later. All is working well. There are no problems with customer service.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were working with both Dell and HPE. We preferred Dell. I prefer not to do any counter-advertising, but HPE was not working out very well with regard to customer services, getting a quote, or even anything technical. We prefer Dell products, but we would prefer the prices of the servers to be a bit lower.
We did not have many issues with HPE at a technical level, but we have had some issues when communicating with them, even at the presales level. We could not even connect to their server to get a quote. It was so complicated. There were references that we did not understand. If we have to install a particular disk, we must buy some specific accessory or another, whereas, with Dell, if we want something, we just tell them, and we get the configuration.
In addition, for Dell’s website, we can use any browser, whereas with HPE, it is Chrome one day and something else another day. We use Firefox, and it does not work. We use something else, and it does not work either. Dell is very open.
Other than these two brands, I do not have knowledge of any other brand. We have had integrators for homemade servers, but that was a long time ago. It is usually Dell or HPE. Dell has about ¾th of the market.
How was the initial setup?
I am involved in the deployment of these servers. I work in a research laboratory. We are about 100 people, but we are a part of the Paris Observatory. It is like a university with about 800 people. We all work daily together with the IT teams.
I am responsible for handling presales with the technical and salespeople from Dell or HPE. We are not in charge of the orders. We handle the equipment and install the machines, and we organize the rollout of the infrastructure, VMs, and all that. Afterwards, we also handle interfacing with users.
The initial setup is rather simple. We do not have any real problems, and even when we have had a problem, it was fairly quickly resolved.
In terms of implementation strategy, when you are a small company, there is no big strategy like big companies. We get there, we install it, and it works. There is no strategy.
What about the implementation team?
We implement them ourselves. We have integrators but more for some third-party solutions. We have taken a license for safeguarding software on the campus. For that, we work with other companies, but for all of the equipment and for Dell infrastructure, we do not need help. It works very well, and there are no problems. We know that it is simple.
What was our ROI?
We are not salespeople, so it is difficult to comment on the return on investment, but when we buy a Dell server, we get value for money. We know that we will not have any problem, and it will work fine. We will install VMs and everything required. When I request a credit, my manager knows that the server will work for many years. We will not be having any issues, and I will not be asking for more money. We sometimes change some old machines, but that is only because the new ones are less energy-consuming, and we will be able to put more VMs on just one server, so, ecologically, we will use less energy. Sometimes, that is the only reason why we would change an old server. It still works, but it uses more energy than the new ones.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
They are expensive. As far as the licenses are concerned, we are fine. It is more about the price of the equipment.
Some colleagues in other universities have done a comparison, and for a similar configuration, there was at least a 10% to 20% discount with HPE in comparison to the prices from Dell.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten.

On préférait Dell.

Reliable servers for secure and scalable infrastructure
Pros and Cons
- "The reliability and the execution of the necessary assignments are valuable."
- "I would like them to be more flexible when implementing more capabilities."
What is our primary use case?
The use cases are related to Medical Oncology, everything that has to do with radiotherapy.
By implementing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I wanted a platform with good reliability, good work, and good service.
How has it helped my organization?
It gives us reliability for our applications. It offers us a secure and scalable infrastructure, which has become essential to virtualize our workloads.
The PowerEdge Cyber Resilient Architecture approach to security is very good. I see much more interest from Dell in providing security that reflects our requirements. Because of better monitoring capabilities, it eliminates dependence on third-party certification authorities.
In terms of energy consumption, I would rate it an eight out of ten. They continually add more and more features to improve power consumption. In all the years as a Dell PowerEdge user, I have seen an improvement in their power delivery and consumption.
The impact of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers has been very high on our organization’s sustainability goals. In our company, we need a platform with high scalability and the capability to handle high workload. With the reliability of the platform, we feel free to be able to deal with other issues.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have clearly reduced unplanned production downtime, but I cannot exactly say how much.
The OpenManage console has affected the level of productivity of the IT team. In terms of system repair, they receive fewer demands, which makes them meet more goals than before.
Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have affected the overall flexibility of our operations or business. The better performance the servers have, the better the applications will work, which consequently leads to better performance for Dell as well as for the company that uses its services.
What is most valuable?
The reliability and the execution of the necessary assignments are valuable.
What needs improvement?
I would like them to be more flexible when implementing more capabilities.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for 15 years.

Provides centralized management capabilities for large environments, reduces data processing times, and supports full automation
Pros and Cons
- "We haven't faced any problems with the power supplies. The consumption of power is robust. We still have slots for the new hard discs for availability and upgrading RAM, but the machine itself has been working nonstop for ten years."
- "Different types of applications that are now trendy in the market, like AI, are still big topics that are not mapped correctly in the server and storage environment. Knowing those kinds of activities and definitions will help us more to position these kinds of servers for the client."
What is our primary use case?
We have implemented the PowerEdge servers in data centers for intelligence, governments, banks, hospitals, and for different use cases. It's a very robust product.
We're a Dell Gold partner, and we sell services for our clients. We've been working in this domain for a long time.
We're using the seven series and the six series, and we previously used the eight series.
Most of our implementations are completed on-premises.
How has it helped my organization?
PowerEdge's system management capabilities help increase staff productivity.
It provides centralized management capabilities for large environments. In data centers, implementing multi-servers and managing different kinds of resources from a single portal definitely helps us a lot.
PowerEdge reduces data processing times. The server must be set up well to do this. Knowing your application and how to set up a real configuration that will map your request, helps a lot in the PowerEdge environment.
The enabling of full automation has affected the operations of our company.
This is the target of every client and organization. The servers fully support automation. A combination of a company's strategy when implementing solutions and having applications that are synchronized with the hardware requirement will lead to a very good result. The hardware is the best part of it because it's so easy. The hardware supports big implementations. If the structure is right, the results will be very good.
PowerEdge hasn't let us down in any situation. It's a very robust system.
We haven't faced any kind of downtime with applications, especially in analytics, because we implement a PowerEdge cluster and support it with storage. The infrastructure is highly available based on the Dell server.
From our implementations over the years and the new demand in technology, we haven't faced any kind of problems related to hardware based on PowerEdge. Everything is based on the application itself and the algorithm that the client uses through the servers. The problem isn't with the servers. The problem is with development.
It's all about processing. If you use a different kind of application that needs a lot of resources, that is a key factor, especially in data collection, open-source data, and applying different analytics over that. That will need a lot of processing, and the hardware is a key factor in that part.
Full automation is fully supported with PowerEdge. From the server perspective, it is fully compliant.
What is most valuable?
We haven't faced any problems with the power supplies. The consumption of power is robust. We still have slots for the new hard discs for availability and upgrading RAM, but the machine itself has been working nonstop for ten years.
We haven't faced any problems with new demands for digital transformation and infrastructure development.
The system is very updated. The machine itself is secure, but it depends on the client's environment and security strategy.
PowerEdge has good value for energy consumption. We know this from other vendors that have the same data centers that we used to work with. It provides better performance in terms of power consumption. More power is saved with the use of a full cabinet of PowerEdge servers versus other solutions with multi-servers.
We work in environments with systems in analytics, AI, Hadoop infrastructure, open source, and data gathering. We have those kinds of servers in our setups, and we never face problems when running the latest high-demand applications. We have an advantage in getting those results on PowerEdge servers rather than other servers.
We had some applications in artificial intelligence. Some of the clients are starting to adopt those use cases. We didn't face any problems adopting those kinds of solutions, although it's still an open discussion.
We are very familiar with the Dell portal, updates, supports, and assessments.
The integrated Dell Remote Access Controller telemetry for monitoring the PowerEdge system data and providing analytics is very simple and accessible. For centralized management, it's a good value. These kinds of implementations in a big data center make a difference.
We have CloudIQ in the machine learning systems that we are implementing for some of our clients, and those are based on Dell PowerEdge. We have those kinds of predictive analytics, and the hardware is doing great so far.
Dell EMC is a combination of processing, storage, and power. We're in a really good position in terms of technology, trends, and the leaders in the market.
Dell has different types of servers that can fit different types of businesses.
What needs improvement?
Different types of applications that are now trendy in the market, like AI, are still big topics that are not mapped correctly in the server and storage environment. Knowing those kinds of activities and definitions will help us more to position these kinds of servers for the client.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution since 2005.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's very stable. We have been using it for ten years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's easy to scale.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate technical support an eight out of ten. We have never had a problem with technical support. There are a lot of different layers of support, and they're all very responsive. Dell is a very good company.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used to work with HP most of the time, and we worked with servers from Cisco for a short time.
Dell used to have different categories of servers that can fit different types of businesses. Sometimes we find that small servers have good specs over other competition, which is key for some new clients. For some new businesses, small servers can help achieve different targets for SMEs.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is very simple. When deploying PowerEdge, we used the automated server and OS deployment features. Our clients are very familiar with the setup. It's straightforward and very fast. If someone is knowledgeable in IT, they are familiar with PowerEdge.
What about the implementation team?
As a partner, most of the time we help clients. However, most of the clients are knowledgeable enough to implement the servers in a very simple way.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
PowerEdge is not a cheap product. It's a quality product, but there is always competition.
If you want to buy a server, you need an operating system, and most of it is Microsoft. A bundled solution costs less than a separate operating system and hardware.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We cannot compare public cloud solutions with PowerEdge. This decision is related to the availability of features over the internet versus something that you own in your data center, your servers, and your manageability and power. Implementing those kinds of servers on-premises will cost more, but having a cloud solution with on-premises storage is more feasible and economically better.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.
I cannot recommend a solution other than PowerEdge. I'm very happy with it and proud that we have it implemented.
I would definitely recommend this solution to those who are interested in using it. It's a robust, solid solution, and the hardware is designed carefully. The features and capabilities are built-in and it's a very supportive, long-term company. There are continuous efforts for development.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Good performance, intuitive user interface, and helpful support
Pros and Cons
- "The real advantage to Dell when I look at some of the other competitors is the support."
- "I've had some trouble where the customers are not happy with the Toshiba drives, and it's a challenge when it comes to specific requests for Dell to a non-deviate, and only use Seagate drives."
What is our primary use case?
We are a solution provider and this is one of the products that we implement for our customers. Their use cases can be everything from storage to simple computing to network traffic analysis. We have a lot of customers that just do everything with these servers, and it's difficult to keep track of.
We will architect and help the customer identify the best solution for their software, and then essentially modify whatever they need. This might include adding cards, deploying their software onto the server, and then managing their inventory.
How has it helped my organization?
PowerEdge is good when it comes to dealing with the evolving needs of high-performance workloads that our customers have. Whatever software they're developing seems to be able to take advantage of it.
The system's management frameworks have enabled at least one of our customers to progress toward full automation. Their internal scripting works with automation, which means that they can leverage the tools that Dell has created and merge them with their own software. This is something that's benefited them.
What is most valuable?
iDRAC is one of the most valuable features, as well as having BMC.
The real advantage to Dell when I look at some of the other competitors is the support. The support is better than Lenovo and HP. For example, it's much easier to get replacement components, and we can get service out to customers as quickly as possible. There aren't as many hoops to jump through. It's just not as challenging. This is one of the big reasons we stick with Dell.
The iDRAC telemetry for monitoring PowerEdge system data and providing analytics is a good feature. We have a lot of the sensor data that we capture, and it's very useful to our customers. Being able to pull that out and tell them the consistency of their product is a good value-add to sell.
What needs improvement?
The big problem that we have at the moment is with the supply chain. If it were more realistic then we'd probably be able to expand some of these systems a little bit more. This might be more CPU options, different memory, or overall consistency.
Certain customers have requirements that they prefer. I've had some trouble where the customers are not happy with the Toshiba drives, and it's a challenge when it comes to specific requests for Dell to a non-deviate, and only use Seagate drives.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for approximately 14 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This product seems stable to me. Compared to products from other vendors, I don't have as many problems with them.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
From a scalability standpoint, getting more systems or expanding capacity has never really been an issue.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate Dell's technical support a nine out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Compared to other solutions, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very good.
In general, the user interface on Dell's products, including iDRAC, is a little bit easier and more intuitive than those of competing solutions from vendors such as Lenovo and Supermicro.
What was our ROI?
Our customers have seen a return on their investment with this solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing for PowerEdge servers is reasonable. Our customers continue to purchase them from us. When it comes to pricing, often our customers are doing the work for us. They compare pricing and costs against other hardware vendors to see who is going to come out on top. More often than not, they choose Dell.
What other advice do I have?
We do a little bit of support for our customers, depending on the contract that we have with them. When there is a problem with a sever, some people just want to replace it immediately. They don't really care about trying to replace single components. They just want to get their server up and running, so they swap it out. It's very much done on a case-by-case basis.
My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is that it's the support from Dell that really makes things easier for us. There is always a little bit of movement when it comes to the costs and getting the numbers where they need to be. But, at the end of the day, dealing with Dell means it's easier to support a customer, especially with critical response times. This is something that's been really beneficial for us.
Overall, this is a good product, and judging by the feedback from my customers, there are very few additional features that they want or need. Dell seems to have done a pretty good job with what is currently released.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
