It's a data warehouse for finance and central bank reporting purposes, and an ETL tool in this environment.

It's easily understandable. The product is quick and flexible, with very good steps to make data transformation possible. 

The initial setup is pretty straightforward.

The use case is for a General Insurance company headquartered in Japan. Data from legacy and active systems are integrated, and a standardized and clean copy of data is delivered for tracking KPIs, Loss Ratios, Claim Process Quality Review, and Customer 360 Portal using Pentaho, Tableau, R, and Qlikview.

Pentaho was used to build ETL pipelines for data warehouses (SSOT - Single source of Truth) and to prepare/distribute data for Tableau and Excel users.

Pentaho also had the ability to create Tableau data extracts for the purpose of developing report prototypes.

Currently I use this at Kaizentric Technologies to build data warehouse on Snowflake. 

It automated several data preparation tasks, enabled cleaner/standardized data for Tableau reports, and was used for integrating data from the current operating system with 3 other legacy system data.

Pentaho was used to migrate data from legacy systems such as Mumps, AS400, AeGIS, to MS SQL Data Warehouse.

ETL jobs helped to move data from Premia (Oracle) systems and OGG Replicas (Oracle Golden Gate) to MS SQL.

We used Pentaho to perform data quality analysis and for the development of data marts/DWH solutions and dashboards adhering to time requirements.

Pentaho is a BIS(business intelligence system) that is designed to help customers
make decisions based on their data type, size, workflow, use, and importance.

The "Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics" is software made and integrated with different software sets of tools to make it a good alternative BIS.

The customers can create a platform using "Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics" for data integration and analytics.

The Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics platform includes, extract, transform, and load (ETL), big data analytics, visualizations, dashboards, reporting, data mining, and predictive analytics.

Pentaho BIS can be used where an organization has a lot of big data storage systems already installed and needs to manage, visualize, and analyze that data.

It has a specific use case for unstructured data, such as documents, and needs to be able to search and analyze it.

This sometimes happens when customers buy one storage capacity, then upgrade or buy another one to get more capacity, and their organization is full of different types of storage/data. It is very hard to visualize and manage that data.

Pentaho Business Analytics can significantly improve an organization's IT insite, instead of creating silos of their data, they can manage, analyze and create an overall report using one product. It has a community version and an Enterprise version. Organizations can benefit from it by Increasing their Productivity, Improving Data Pipeline Quality, and faster Data Delivery.

It is a very good replacement for BIS, an organization's needs can be fulfilled by using the community version if they don't have any compliance issues.

• Open Source Community Edition feature - helped us a lot with our budget in the beginning of our project
• Ability to produce different types of visualizations (on par with Tableau) - map, pie, bar, heat map, table etc. Several other different options like exporting to CSV, downloading a table and so on
• Ability to integrate with different databases seamlessly - Hadoop, MySQL etc
• Ability to highly customize the dashboards to the developer's preference.

Helped us form great visualizations at practically no cost since we built end to end open source architecture. This has helped in gaining business insights for us. We have also learned a lot from the development perspective since this is more of a developer's tool than tools like Tableau/Qlikview that are pretty much automated.

We use Pentaho to analyze our customers' subscriber analytics. This includes subscriber account, prediction, and analysis by the server.

The most valuable feature of Pentaho is the Tableau report.

Pentaho Data Integration - Even though this is the community edition it is very powerful compared to other expensive products like MS SQL, SSIS, or Informatica.

We were able to configure our data warehouse and implement more than eight data cubes in a very short period of time.
