Barracuda Email Protection needs better reporting and more robust integration with security awareness training platforms and third-party solutions. The fraud detection capability is not well-developed, with many false positives being reported, and there's no way to tune or modify the system. Additionally, the solution lacks the ability to create custom rules or policies for VIP users, which is a significant drawback.

The solution must provide security gateway features. It must enable users to archive emails for a specific period. The tool must allow organizations to extend the storage capacity by at least 10%. It must enable the extension of storage to an external drive. We faced problems when the storage became full. We use an on-premise solution, and it reached maximum capacity. The product must enable bulk user management. It would be helpful if we wanted to get PST files for bulk users. Currently, when we need to get PST files for a group of people, the administrators have to do it individually. It would be good if we could upload it in an Excel sheet. It will be great if we can search for inactive users.
Regarding Barracuda Email Protection specifically, I'm quite satisfied. I think there's room for improvement in their other products, especially their cloud firewall protection and ZTNA offerings. Moreover, prices could be more granular, especially for the small business area. Typically, in Italy, the majority of our customers are small businesses. It would be better if the prices could be adjusted for small businesses.

The solution's reporting mechanism is a little poor and could be improved. There is no reporting mechanism with regard to the incidents and the root cause analysis. The solution should provide full details about any incident that happens.
The solution can be improved in terms of performance including web content filtering, and network configuration for better protection and enhanced functionality on mobile devices, including Android and iOS.
Barracuda Email Protection currently only works with Microsoft 365. It would be cool to see a more inclusive vendor approach where they should include Google Suite and other vendors like Amazon, for example. You also need complete admin access within your Microsoft 365 account to deploy Barracuda completely, so when you deploy the solution for a customer, it could be hard to transfer those rights from being an end user to a reseller. That's something they could improve.
In terms of improvement, the main issue is the price increase every quarter, which makes it expensive and less favored. That's why people are looking for a new product. In future releases, there are many things to add because they have a fixed policy to send out emails. Moreover, there is less visibility on the algorithm. The policies are set up in Barracuda by default; we don't have any control over them. If there is a more flexible policy available, it would be more helpful. And the event tracking, delivery reports, and customized reporting. Those are not that good enough.
The email encryption could be improved. I would like to see some additional functionality in terms of employee monitoring, as part of a work-from-home security solution. It would make the protection and capability more comprehensive.
The popularity of Microsoft 365 means criminals test and design their attacks to bypass its native security features. And that means you need additional layers of defense. With Advanced Threat Protection enabled, Barracuda uses multiple layers of detection, including signature, static, and behavioral analysis, along with CPU-emulation sandboxing to accurately detect and block zero-hour targeted attacks and ransomware.

Two to three months back, we got fraudulent emails in which someone in the organization was being blamed.
