In terms of vOps, we use templates for optimization to monitor heavy hitters on storage and CPU resources. In the VMware environment, one area for improvement is the handling of VM failovers due to host failures, such as unexpected shutdowns from hardware issues. Currently, High Availability (HA) doesn't seem to recognize whether the VMs are online during failover, treating them as offline or unavailable. I would like VMware to enhance this feature so that VMs do not restart during failover to another host. This change would prevent application timeouts and business disruptions, significantly reducing complaints from the business side. Such an improvement in keeping VMs online without restarting during failover would be ideal.
I had concerns about licensing, but there have been recent changes starting this month. Previously, we lacked VMware licenses for Operations on certain hosts where project owners were obtaining them independently. Technical support should be improved.

I haven't reviewed or compared other products in the market against VMware Aria Operations for Logs, so I am not in a position to discuss what additional requirements are needed in the solution. From an improvement perspective, the tool needs to be made more user-friendly.
From an improvement perspective, I think that though the tool offers integration with other solutions and some dashboards are available, they are not full-fledged ones. Suppose there is a need for the integration of VMware Aria Operations for Logs with Cisco or any other hardware storage solutions, and if a customer needs a single pane of glass monitoring, then such a functionality is not in place as of now. The aforementioned areas of concern can be considered for improvement of the product. The product's price falls on the higher end of the spectrum, making it an area of concern. From an improvement perspective, the product's price can be reduced. In relation to the product, the area of cloud operations is a little bit complicated, making it one of the elements where improvements can be made.

The tool does not provide a centralized pane for monitoring. We must go to different consoles with different licenses associated with them. Nutanix Prism offers such features in one pane, and there’s no need for additional licenses. Prism also provides life cycle management functions.
In vRealize login files, we have limitations regarding log partitions. We are limited to a maximum of five partitions, but in our case, we need more. Is it possible to provide more log partitions? I would like to see more log partitions in the next version.

There are numerous add-on services available for vRealize Log Insight. You must collect logs from your routers, firewall, load balancer, and other components. It is an optional feature that is extremely useful. Sometimes you have to use a different vendor, like Palo Alto or F5, and there are more vendor add-on services you can use for it. Not everyone uses the Cisco environment. Different people have someone who uses Cisco, someone who uses Dell, and someone who uses Juniper. As all of the components that we used to specifically add ons this Log Insight feature for the log services are very good. I believe they have improved the new version. Integration with other vendors is something that could be improved, they could add more vendors. The events monitoring and the VMware integration are the most valuable features that could be included or improved.
I think having better training options would be an improvement. Paid or free it does not matter, but it is complex to find good training material for vRealize Log Insight. It would be helpful to have an easy way to access some kind of material or if VMware would integrate with the clients who use vRealize Log Insight in a different format.
I would like to see more tutorials or at least an introduction video from the supplier, so you can become proficient and get the most out of the solution. You might not get the full benefit from a logging or reporting solution because you might not have a particular tool enabled. You could leave something out of your analysis because you aren't aware of it or you don't know how to set it up.
I think there are a lot of areas where the product could be improved. To start with I would like the capability to do additional customizations, like integrating with third-party products. Every customer that we have is not using Log Insight. For those people who are using Solarwinds or Splunk or any other monitoring tool, there should be an option to forward the logs from Insights to the other products and options for this that we can choose. It would be good to make it so we can start forwarding logs and analysis to other monitoring systems. It would be good to be able to increase log retention. They improved log retention in the latest version. Before it was only 30 days that you could keep the logs, but in the latest version, they have increased that limit to a number of months. One thing that goes along with the enhanced log retention is we need to have a lot of space to store the logs. So, integration with other monitoring tools and log retentions are things that should be more under user control. We need to have additional storage, fine. That is okay, we have a lot of storage at our data centers and if necessary we can put in additional disks. But the license cost is too much. Compared to the storage costs we will have to increase capacity, the license from vRealize will be more costly.

The solution should be more user-friendly. The user interface and dashboard could be simplified. It would be helpful in future releases if the solution offered the ability to have a single pane of management and more integration with other solutions.

I don't think there's any specific improvement I'd like to see, perhaps third-party logins. It's great for VMware, but it would be good if they had third-party logins. I'm pretty happy with the dashboard interface and management monitoring tools.

In regards to stability, it doesn't do the patches on the operating systems. The manufacturers need to develop patches for security reasons, on all of the applications. There could be an improvement in the scalability. I think that it should be able to integrate with other third-party backup and recovery solutions, more that it does now. I feel that this is an area that needs to be worked on. The dashboard and user interface is friendly but could be friendlier, so that even a person who is just learning about virtualization would be able to understand the features on the interface. They should look at things like plugins. Other providers incorporate them into their own products. I feel that the same should be done with VMware to stay competitive in the market.
The implementation process could be improved. We ran into a few issues during the initial setup that could have been avoided if it was more straightforward. The solution isn't user-friendly for admins. The solution needs to offer a feature for small companies that would allow us to run VDI that won't take up server resources.

Documentation is lacking, including some guides as to how to use the expressions. It is not clear how to look for a log, for example. Some examples in the documentation might be helpful. I think that VMware had good documentation, but it's no longer hosted. The documentation is not as easy to understand as it was before. Log Insight has a good dashboard, where you can search for a log. However, it is difficult at the beginning for the administrator to understand it. I asked my colleague how often they use this tool and they said, "It is very difficult to find something in the tool. You need to know what you are looking for." This might be the part that should be improved. The interactive analyzer feature should also be improved.

The solution should make it possible to use it from a security perspective so that you can centralize your policies and have some control as to what's happening in the environment. They should improve their web interface to make it more user-friendly.

The solution is a very good tool, but it has a lot of limitations. One of the main issues is around how you define your retention policy, for instance. It doesn't have it. You can't define a log retention policy. You also can't define the destination or location for your logs. All of the logs are in one index or one bucket. For example, if you have a different set of logs, which you want to have different rotation policies for, you can't do that. You have to create multiple clusters if you want to do this, and then the problem is that you will end up having multiple classes, and you can't access all of them centrally.

Log Insight should be better at dealing with audits and security logs. We use another product called QRadar for that.
