Feature complete, useful cloning, and helpful support
Acronis Backup has been beneficial for our organization because it allows our mobile employees to create backups while they are in the field, rather than having to come back to the office to do so. This is particularly useful because, in the past, we had to rely on our office network to perform backups using Azure and Veeam. With Acronis, as long as our mobile employees have ethernet connectivity, they can create backups remotely, which has been convenient and efficient. Using Acronis Backup has helped our organization by allowing us to create backups of data accessed by mobile employees in the field, which has reduced the risk of data loss due to theft, loss of laptops, or other incidents. This has improved our operations by helping us to protect our data and prevent losses that could impact our business.

Backups are remarkably simple, we can instantly recover data and unify all our data sources
BDRSuite helps us manage our virtual machine backups and restorations. The most beneficial features for data protection are the BDRSuite for Windows servers and the BDRSuite for MySQL. BDRSuite allows us to instantly recover data automatically by clicking on the restore button. It is useful that BDRSuite provides multiple restore options for recovering data in a granular manner because we don't always need all the data. The incremental backup processing provided by BDRSuite is important for recovering particular data points. The backup and replication scheduling options are good. Adding and removing backup jobs using BDRSuite is remarkably simple. The intuitive interface makes it a one-time setup, eliminating the need for frequent management. BDRSuite has brought significant improvements to our organization by providing invaluable peace of mind regarding our data backups. BDRSuite's comprehensiveness is helpful, especially for our Google Drive integration. BDRSuite enables us to unify all of our data sources into one solution. Eliminating multiple backup solutions has saved us a lot of time allowing us to focus on optimizing our servers. We create backup repositories in Google Cloud automatically using BDRSuite. BDRSuite has saved us 30 percent of our time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I can encrypt the data, I can make it send me an email if it fails. It lets me choose which files I want to ignore during backup."
"The image backup and image restore features have been very beneficial to us."
"The administration is pretty flexible in terms of defining a multi-tenant type of setup."
"All the necessary features required to set up a proper backup are already present in Acronis Backup."
"Universal Restore is valuable to us."
"I've reimaged servers and been back up and running in exactly no time with the completely new hardware."
"Acronis Backup is valuable if your data is affected by ransomware, you are able to get it back."
"Some of the most valuable features are recovery, protection against malware, and software management. I am happy with the dashboards and user interface."
"The agentless backups are the big selling point on this, as well as being able to send out across sites so that I can do a restore at either of our two locations."
"Adding and removing backup jobs using BDRSuite is easy and also includes great documentation."
"The scalability is good. It can scale. Adding a new server to a foreign location is easy."
"I am very pleased with the compression, especially with some of the larger SQL databases that need backup. The amount of compression is impressive."
"I get my backups done."
"We only use BDRSuite to back up two VMs in our current environment. It helps us with maintenance, monitoring, etc. We are satisfied with BDRSuite so far and plan to add a few more VMs in the future, including Citrix VMs and XenServer."
"Valuable features include Snapshots and the constant backup for SQL, application services, and Active Directory."
"The compression, encryption, and deduplication features all work fine."

Cons

"This is not a feature-rich solution."
"Currently, there is no option to use the tape drives again as a backup repository for the cloud deployment."
"When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking."
"It would be better if they made it easier to obtain images for laptops and desktops. It isn't easy right now to have many different types of desktop computers. This is because Microsoft is changing a lot of things in Windows 10."
"They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, to our Office 365, but there is not an agent to back up my SQL databases."
"The tool's dashboard for daily operations is useful, but I find that it could benefit from enhancements, particularly in terms of reporting. While exporting reports, the format is not fancy as it appears on the dashboard. The exported files are typically in Excel CSV or PDF format."
"The reporting can be improved."
"The solution needs to have better stability. I would like to improve the tool’s support through calls."
"Our initial experience with BDRSuite highlighted the need for improved user onboarding materials."
"The dashboard should more interactive."
"Vembu will tell you the next scheduled backup, but it doesn't show you the last successful backup. I would have them include a column under "List of Backup Jobs" and have two other columns which say, "Last Successful Backup" and "Next Scheduled Backup", because you don't know now if it's backed up successfully. It just says, "The next scheduled time is this." You don't know from looking at that pane of glass when the last time it actually happened without digging further into reports."
"I have not been impressed by the data compression of the backup images. They seem to take up nearly as much space on the backup drive as they do on the server."
"There were issues with the implementation because of incompatibilities between the tool implementation and our current VMware installation. So, it was an implementation issue that doesn't allow me to use it for VMware backup in the manner in which we would want to use it. That wasn't clear from the evaluation stage nor was it clear from the first utilization of it because it worked in the environment that it was being evaluated in. Based on that, we went ahead and made the purchase of the full implementation. At that point, it became clear that there would be limitations in that implementation that could not be overcome without doing upgrades to the production environment."
"I have had issues with new client registrations. There are frequent connectivity issues to the cloud servers. Multiple times, I have had to prove to support that it wasn’t a problem on my end. It always works out in the end, but it is troubling to have the same issues repeated across different clients. Issues eventually get escalated to the cloud team and are mysteriously resolved with no changes on my end."
"BDRSuite could improve support for XenApp Citrix Backup."
"It is very easy, unless you know exactly what you're doing, to corrupt the virtual machines and they get locked up. Just brief detail: When you are creating a system, if you don't have absolutely every other little background processes in place, it creates Snapshots of the virtual machines. Once it does that, it then won't be able to have a backup. From that point on you have to destroy the virtual machine, which is completely counterproductive on a large system. There is a fundamental flaw in the setup that can be very dangerous, potentially."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We were on a perpetual license for Acronis Backup."
"I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"There is a license required to use this solution and it is inexpensive. However, it is an old license."
"You pay for what you use in the cloud. If you don't start the virtual machine in the cloud, you only pay for the information stored there. But when you start the virtual machine, another pricing model is activated."
"You don't have to pay for licenses. You can pay per gig per month. It is pretty reasonable, especially when you do it per gig."
"I would describe the product as a mid-priced tool for small and medium businesses."
"Acronis Backup is cheaper. If you install it on a hypervisor, you only pay for a single license. It would be for the backup server, and everything else will be covered by it. In that sense, it becomes a much cheaper option. However, if you have virtual machines, then it can be more expensive. Also, if you have a lot of physical machines the cost can be higher because each entity will need a separate license. There is a monthly license cost."
"I've purchased and been licensed for one aspect of it, which is my preferred method, but the pricing and licensing will not work for the short-term and I can't draw back."
"I deployed Veeam and it worked very well, but the problem was that its price was very high. As a result, I searched for another solution and found Vembu. I deployed it and we have been happy with it. For us, the major difference was the pricing."
"This solution helped us deliver an enterprise level data protection solution and reduced our budget by 50 percent. We spent $3,000 on Vembu's licenses where other solutions were almost double."
"Pricing is fair enough. What was not clear enough in the documentation on the website was that that you're licensing per CPU socket and you are only licensing on the restore sockets, not the backup sockets. It's a bit technical, but it was very well explained during the demonstration that we had during the evaluation period."
"It is affordable. It has value with respect to the features included in the software."
"The product's pricing is a good value. Vembu is cost-effective versus using VMware Essentials. Regarding licensing, make sure you find the right workstation or server that you're going to install it on, and know the number of sockets it has, since the price depends on that."
"We were able to take advantage of a promotional pricing campaign."
"The product is affordable, and we focus on SMBs for our customer base."
