Helps automate backups, and integrates seamlessly, but doesn't work well with standalone drives
BDRSuite takes the hassle out of backups by automating the start time, eliminating the need for late-night office visits to manually initiate the process. BDRSuite enables near-instantaneous data recovery, with even our largest multi-terabyte restoration only taking five to ten minutes. That is quick for a backup. The quick recovery is extremely important to us. We want to have as little downtime as possible. Granular restore options in BDRSuite are crucial. They allow us to recover individual files without restoring the entire system. This means we can retrieve a lost file without wiping out any progress made since it was lost, saving significant time and effort. The incremental backups are great! By only backing up changed data, they reduce stress on our servers and drives, which in turn extends the lifespan of our machines. The backup and scheduling options are great in BDRSuite. I can choose individual times a day down to a minute essentially. Usually, what we do is we set all of our backups to start at midnight so there's nobody in the office, and there's no work that can be interrupted by the backup in the worst-case scenario. It is extremely easy to add and remove backup jobs using BDRSuite. We select the backup that we're trying to remove, and we just delete it from there. We have to make sure whatever storage it was using is cleared off our machine. Backing up our virtual machines is crucial, especially since some store medical records. To ensure continued operation and data protection, BDRSuite provides us with a backup solution for our business needs. Thanks to the breadth of backup coverage provided by Vembu, we have been able to stop relying on multiple backup solutions for different data sources. We were using Windows Backup in a couple of the WD external drives and now we only use Vembu across all of our data sources. It was extremely easy to integrate BDRSuite with our existing infrastructure.

Comprehensive and flexible with outstanding customer service
Our primary application of Nakivo centers on backing up our comprehensive VMware environment.  Operating within a VMware server, it serves as an integral component of our data protection strategy. This setup is crucial as it continuously safeguards our virtual machines, ensuring no data loss during…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It suits our needs, is versatile, and the functionality is there."
"It has improved our business continuity."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to copy quickly. We have about 12 terabytes, and trying to copy that volume size through the file structure would take a week. BDRSuite has a different approach to copying and is much faster."
"The most valuable feature is the ability, from a console, to manage the different computers to be backed up."
"The most important feature, in terms of the hypervisor, is the ability to restore a virtual machine in a matter of minutes. We can take the backup of a virtual machine and we can restore it to the actual Vembu Backup server as a temporary solution, in a matter of minutes. We can just spin up a VM in no time; different hardware, even different processors. It's pretty dynamic in that sense."
"It backs up our virtual machines with the CBT, Changed Block Tracking."
"The scalability is good. It can scale. Adding a new server to a foreign location is easy."
"Moving to cloud backups eliminated the need for clients to change USB drives or worry about drives being stored offsite."
"Most valuable for DimenXional Cloud is the API provided by Nakivo which allows us to implement the software in all types of solutions."
"I could install and configure the trial version in maybe half an hour and had a successful backup of our file server on the same night."
"Nakivo makes our backs-ups more reliable and easy to recover in case of full damage or partial retrieval of files - all at a convenient cost."
"Its capability to back up virtual machines is noteworthy, but its ability to verify the bootability of these backups is especially practical."
"The ability to use a variety of cloud providers rather than being tied into one is a huge bonus."
"Nakivo gives users confidence in knowing that if something happens with their application server, exchange server, or other applications, they can recover it easily and quickly."
"Nakivo's backup and replication product has allowed us to implement a disaster recovery solution with a target repository in the cloud."
"The backup for physical machines and replication for the virtual environment are the most valuable aspects."

Cons

"The only place where I would really want to see improvement, out the gate, is more granular scheduling... If I want to do an offset or to only do two backups on Friday and Saturday - versus whole hourly incrementals during the week - I don't have that granularity right now."
"The reporting can use some improvement. I still use the old StoreGrid Cloud while I'm migrating the rest of my clients over. I am able to export all of my clients' usage for the month, which I then import into my billing program. It helps me speed up the billing process. Also, I can generate a report that gives me statuses of everyone's backup, which I don't get from Vembu Backup Online either. I would like to have something similar where I can export everyone's usage at any time for all their backups, so I can use that to import them to my billing program."
"They can work on their cloud solution. In these days, the data becomes too much and you have to back up a lot of data to the site. They could offer cheaper storage to their clients with the cloud, making this a single source of truth solution. In our project, we are using two service providers: One who offers our storage and another who offers the software. If they work on their cloud solution and can offer their clients lower prices for this type of storage, this would be a really good improvement."
"We are still exploring its features, but we want to see more features that we desire over time."
"They had a good product and tried to change things by going to a different product. They should have tried to stay with a product that is a proven solution and successful."
"The interface could be better because I have to fumble around to find things. I can't just sit down at the terminal and know exactly what to do. It could be just me, but I have used a number of different backup products, and I found them simpler. However, its features are very good, so I don't mind sacrificing a bit of extra time to do what I need."
"There was one issue though with the hardware IDs. When I went to a different version of Hyper-V, the hardware IDs weren't restored and the machine got two new IDs. The preliminary unique IDs weren't restored, so I had to reactivate programs."
"What I would love to see on the dashboard are graphs, per backup job. I want to see the month and the days in it... If a job has failed, when did it actually fail and what percentage of it failed? Did it fail completely, 75 percent or 100 percent or did it only fail partially?"
"While Nakivo delivers comprehensive solutions, there's room for enhancement, particularly regarding Proxmox support."
"I would love to see compatibility with KVM Backup."
"So far, there is no version that supports Polish. If such a version existed, many customers in our region would decide to purchase and implement this solution."
"They need to add a failover feature to the Essential Pro license in case the environment is a simple virtual environment and the client does not need to upgrade."
"It would be good to have some Oracle database backup capability from the Linux OS in the next release."
"Right now we know that Nakivo has the ability to back up as an incremental process and restore backups across several criteria. However, it would be good if we had the ability to backup a system like PostgreSQL."
"It'll help if they offered some automation and more usability for partners."
"The reporting features could be enhanced to provide more detailed and customizable reports for better insights into backup operations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's very affordable. We are very satisfied with the cost. It's very affordable for us."
"For our needs, the price of the backup system is not too much... We checked out Veeam and Acronis but both were very expensive compared to Vembu."
"I do remember that the pricing was based on a VMware or Hyper-V license, whereas on our end, it should be regarded as a VM-based license. I don't know why they make a difference at the Vembu level. We are currently on VMware migrating to Hyper-V, and we didn't want to buy licenses for VMware, but still have to buy them for Hyper-V. This the only thing which does not seem fully adequate."
"The price for BDRSuite is justified."
"The best thing about the product is the license management. It is a true managed service provider solution. It has a good price. The licensing is quite flexible, which is one of the most important things for us."
"The pricing is reasonable. I am okay with it."
"The product is affordable, and we focus on SMBs for our customer base."
"The pricing and licensing structure are spot on. I don't think there's anything out there in the market that does either the licensing structure or the pricing structure better."
"As a free solution for a small environment, this is a great solution!"
"The solution's pricing is adequate for its features and quality."
"The prices are high."
"The price could be lower."
"Nakivo has a good price-performance ratio."
"This product provides good value for the price."
"I think the price is competitive. However, for some projects, it can be a bit much for price-sensitive small businesses."
"It's really cheap, and our company saves a significant amount of money on IT backup solutions per year."
