Offers good tutorials that make it easy to learn and use, with a powerful feature to compare machine learning algorithms
When I started using RapidMiner, I found it difficult to get it to read the metadata. I wanted to use, for example, a pivot table, and it did not have the variable or the attribute names in it. There were no values. It took a long while to figure out how to do that, although it tends to do it automatically nowadays. RapidMiner is not utterly intuitive for beginners. Sometimes people have trouble distinguishing between a file in their own file system and a repository entry, and they cannot find their data. This is an area where this solution could be improved. It would be helpful to have some tutorials on communicating with Python. I found it a bit difficult at times to figure out which particular variable, or attribute, is going where in Python. It is probably a simple thing to do but I haven't mastered it yet. I'd like them to do a video on that. There are a large number of videos that are usually well-produced, but I don't think that they have one on that. Essentially, I would like to see how to communicate from RapidMiner to Python and from Python to RapidMiner. One of the things I do a lot of is looking at questionnaires where people have used Likert-type scales. I don't recommend Likert-type scales, but if they're properly produced, which is a lot of hard work and it's not usually done, they're really powerful and you can do things like normalizing holes on the Likert scale. That's not the same as normalizing your data in RapidMiner. So, I would want to get results with these Likert scales, pass it through RapidMiner, do a normalization and pass back both the raw scores and the normalized scores and put in some rules, which will say if it's high on the raw score and on the normalized score and low on the standard deviation, then you can trust it.

Quick development enables seamless data processing despite occasional support issues
There were times when the product would fail during development without an apparent reason. The support structure changed; initially, we received great support, however, it later became less reliable due to licensing issues and a tiered support system. Licensing negotiations were problematic, affecting our product usage. For instance, our licenses were temporarily lost during negotiations when an agreement couldn't be reached.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is stable."
"We value the collaboration and governance features because it's a comprehensive platform that covers everything from data extraction to modeling operations in the ML language. RapidMiner is competitive in the ML space."
"The GUI capabilities of the solution are excellent. Their Auto ML model provides for even non-coder data scientists to deploy a model."
"The most valuable feature is what the product sets out to do, which is extracting information and data."
"I've been using a lot of components from the Strategic Extension and Python Extension."
"What I like about RapidMiner is its all-in-one nature, which allows me to prepare, extract, transform, and load data within the same tool."
"The most valuable feature of RapidMiner is that it is code free. It is similar to playing with Lego pieces and executing after you are finished to see the results. Additionally, it is easy to use and has interesting utilities when preparing the data. It has a utility to automatically launch a series of models and show the comparisons. When finished with the comparisons you can select the best one, and deploy it automatically."
"It is easy to use and has a huge community that I can rely on for help. Moreover, it is interactive."
"The most valuable feature of Alteryx is its unlimited handling capabilities."
"The product's most valuable features include its ease of use for non-technical users and machine learning capabilities."
"The product's Macros probably are one of the most useful aspects."
"The solution offers excellent predicting power. The accuracy and confidence have been great."
"All of the data science features in terms of unioning and joining data together are valuable."
"It helps clean messy data and provides spatial analysis."
"I believe that the ability to leverage the gallery for scalability, as well as the general data blending functionality, is most beneficial to our core-based users."
"It allows for manipulation and automation, which has greatly reduced the amount of time required per project."

Cons

"It would be helpful to have some tutorials on communicating with Python."
"The product must provide data-cleaning features."
"Improve the online data services."
"A great product but confusing in some way with regard to the user interface and integration with other tools."
"RapidMiner would be improved with the inclusion of more machine learning algorithms for generating time-series forecasting models."
"I would appreciate improvements in automation and customization options to further streamline processes."
"One challenge I encountered while implementing RapidMiner was the lack of documentation. Since there aren't as many users, finding resources to learn the tool was initially difficult. To overcome this hurdle, I believe RapidMiner could improve by providing more tutorials tailored for new users."
"I would like to see more integration capabilities."
"The tool could include more native connectors, such as for global ERPs, instead of requiring additional fees for these connections."
"I'd like it to be easier to work with PDF."
"It would be nice if they can provide Alteryx with more options for In-DB connectivity. That functionality is there, but it doesn't include all software we are connecting."
"The workflow and pipeline need to improve."
"There could be a bit of improvement related to performance. Sometimes it demands a lot of resources for running it, like memory and search."
"The scalability worries me a lot at the moment because the cost of the solution is high and it is not growing considerably. Unfortunately, we started during early COVID times and because of the economic downturn, all the cost cuttings, and everything, it is not growing as expected."
"They can provide some pre-built tools for predictive analytics instead of us having to build all the tools. It should also be improved from the visualization aspect. It should have better visualization capabilities. There are tools out there that have better visualization capabilities, which Alteryx is lacking currently."
"Sometimes workflows tend to queue up, and they tend to get canceled for some reason that we don't know sometimes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I used an educational license for this solution, which is available free of charge."
"The client only has to pay the licensing costs. There are not any maintenance or hidden costs in addition to the license."
"For the university, the cost of the solution is free for the students and teachers."
"Although we don't pay licensing fees because it is being used within the university, my understanding is that the cost is between $5,000 and $10,000 USD per year."
"I'm not fully aware of RapidMiner's price because we had licenses provided, but from my analysis, it's moderately priced, not too high or too low. It's worth the investment."
"I don't know much about the licensing, but there are some additional costs for certain features."
"The license is really expensive, we cannot afford to have two or three. It takes away all the budget of my area."
"It's probably on the pricey side, but they provide some really useful ways to grow and test."
"It has a good price."
"It is $4,000 a year, so it is cheap versus other solutions. It also accomplishes three times the volume on the job in the same time (as the other solutions)."
"We use the free version of the solution. There are enterprise licenses available. It cost approximately $5,000 annually. It is an expensive solution and there are additional features that cost more money."
"The solution has a more costly license than other tools in the market."
"I rate the solution's pricing as a ten, as it is highly priced."

Of those three you should consider alteryx, it saves time in ETL a lot,  Alteryx is better at handling large data sets than Knime and RapidMiner. But please also consider Dataiku... Up to 3 users it's free ;o)
