Works as a data warehouse system and collects data from different sources
In terms of improvement, I believe Amazon Redshift could work on reducing its costs, as they tend to increase significantly. Additionally, there are occasional issues with nodes going down, which can be problematic. We often encounter issues like someone dropping a column or changing the order of columns, which can cause synchronization problems when pushing data through our pipeline. It's a minor issue, but it can be annoying.

Useful for ETL process and has good documentation
The tool's most beneficial feature for our data management tasks has been the ETL process. Additionally, we utilized Windows and Linux. IBM Db2 Warehouse's scalability has significantly impacted our data storage capabilities. We needed to order new disks for storage every week within this hosting environment. Additionally, we implemented protection measures for production use. The tools are readily available, and if you're willing to invest in them, you can access a good data warehouse without any issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Easy to build out our snowflake design and load data."
"I like it because the usage is very similar to Microsoft SQL server. The structure of the query and the temporary tables are very similar."
"I like the cost-benefit ratio, meaning that it is as easy to use as it is powerful and well-performing."
"I find the most valuable features to be the MPP style of processing, which mostly all of the data warehouses provide. The ability to integrate all other AWS services, such as NSS and S3, with little effort is very helpful. The service is well maintained, there are update patches frequently."
"The solution is easy to set up and use."
"Redshift Spectrum is the most valuable feature."
"For the on-premises version of Amazon Redshift, we need to start from scratch. However, with the cloud version whenever you want to deploy, you can scale up, and down, and it has a data warehousing capability. Redshift has many features."
"It is very easy to dump data into the tool."
"Provides good security and reliability."
"The standout feature of IBM Db2 Warehouse, which is particularly valuable for large enterprises, is its ability to handle big data."
"The analytics engine is not bad at forecasting predictions."
"Some of the best features are stored procedures, parallelism, and different indexing strategies."
"It can be mounted on the cloud, which is a huge plus. If the client, for example, starts small with on-premise deployment and then it rapidly needs to grow, we can transfer this to the cloud easily."
"It can scale effectively as long as resources are available."
"The solution is stable."
"I think it scales really well and as long as you take enough time to learn a little bit about it, it works really well."

Cons

"Amazon Redshift could improve the user interface support."
"There is some missing functionality and sometimes it's so difficult to work in. We need to convert these functionalities using VACUUM inside Amazon Redshift and then it causes some complexity."
"It is difficult to work with unstructured data and JSON documents."
"Should be made available across zones, like other Multi-AZ solutions."
"The technical support should be better in terms of their knowledge, and they should be more customer-friendly."
"It takes a lot of time to ingest and update the data."
"Planting is the primary key enforcement that should be improved."
"Pricing is one of the things that it could improve. It should be more competitive."
"The biggest challenge anyone could have with Db2 Warehouse is their references or online resources and documentation. They are very, very, very limited on the web."
"In terms of improvement, IBM Db2 Warehouse should be more scalable."
"There were some initial challenges with IBM Db2 Warehouse about eight months ago when I worked in this environment. When I coordinated with IBM support, they mentioned that the memory was insufficient for our needs. Our business environment required significantly more memory than the previous cluster could provide. Consequently, we have worked closely with on-site IBM technical personnel to address this issue."
"The areas of the solution that is needing the most improvement are separating compute from storage, elasticity, which means scaling up and then retracting."
"Responding to support tickets takes a lot of time. It can range from two to four days, even for critical issues."
"The biggest problems we have is when the backup solution is failing or slow and we run out of log space, which has happened probably a couple of times in the last four years."
"There should be more material available for training and training should be free."
"IBM Db2 Warehouse needs to improve its interface."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In comparison to the price of similar solutions, Redshift's cost is the lowest."
"The best part about this solution is the cost."
"It's around $200 US dollars. There are some data transfer costs but it's minimal, around $20."
"The price of the solution is reasonable. According to the RA3 cluster particularly, it provides 128 GB of storage with only four nodes. If you can manage your computations processes with the help of materialized views and proper queries. I think the IP clusters are very useful and overall fair for the price."
"BI is sold to our customer base as a part of the initial sales bundle. A customer may elect to opt for a white labeled site for an up-charge."
"Per hour pricing is helpful to keep the costs of a pilot down, but long-term retention is expensive."
"It is an expensive product."
"If you want a fixed price, an to not worry about every query, but you need to manage your nodes personally, use Redshift."
"In a traditional on-prem database, in a data warehouse, the solution is probably on the expensive side."
