The ability to configure rules to check for consistency has helped
Apiary provides a free tier of the platform which allows a small group of developers to collaborate easily on the design of open source APIs. In addition to this, it provides mock endpoints allowing people to experiment with the API without depending or having to stand up a real backend. With our clients, using Apiary allows us to very quickly pull together an API definition (particularly when using API Blueprint). The whole API design process for the simpler use cases can be done in a relatively short workshop which makes it a lot easier to agree, publish, version-manage an API definition with suitable documentation. This can then be evolved and enhanced (particularly in the documentation aspects). With the ability to support Swagger (Open API v2 and introducing/ed support for v3) and API Blueprint makes it a very versatile tool.

Solution simplifies web service testing with impressive speed and accessibility
It is very easy for me to use and I highly prefer it compared to SoapUI and other products for performing its job. It is more handy and faster. It has impacted us very nicely. Postman is used for free by us. I'm not sure if there might be a paid version for multiple users. It is a very good product used for development. It is easy to install, as well as to learn, particularly for new users, even if they are not developers. I taught my business analyst to use it. I just showed them once, and it was easy for them to understand. For example, I gave them the URL and request format and asked them to test independently. They were able to use it on their own and do their testing as well. It was a good experience, especially for generally smart people, like those we usually hire in our company. It is pretty easy to explain, and learning it is not complex.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Git integration"
"I find the generation of mock services very useful, especially when demonstrating for new consumers."
"I do like the overall performance of the solution."
"In two years, there was one time the service was down for an hour or so."
"Quick and easy way to share a new API design with teams."
"We can also submit requests multiple times and it allows us to capture the response each time by using utility scripts."
"The solution has a great user interface and collection of features."
"It's user-friendly. Anybody can learn it within five to seven minutes."
"The solution has helped us very well in testing endpoint URLs."
"It is easy and simple to use and install. It is compatible with Linux, Mac or Windows."
"We are using the automation and performance testing tools."
"Postman helps to write pre-request scripts and make a collection out of each request. You don’t have to spend time writing or copying the requests. The solution lets you integrate multiple environments and their features. Either the tool’s pro or premium version lets you do the merge and pull request for the Git directly."
"The solution provides visibility for PDF reports without needing to install plugins."

Cons

"I would like an integrated option to download a Swagger version of the definition."
"The Oracle release cycle is very bad because the patches only update once a year."
"Swagger (OpenAPI Specification) and Blueprint Support"
"I would like to see more integrations with other platforms."
"The main improvement needed is better integration with test management and other tools to allow a common dashboard for all testing metrics and details."
"The scalability of the solution can be improved."
"If you have knowledge of JavaScript, the initial setup is easy and straightforward. If not, it may take some time to learn about JavaScript before starting the implementation."
"They should integrate the solution with one of the CRM solutions."
"If they could implement auto-validations and assertions from SoapUI, that would be a very good feature."
"If we have a certain build on one machine it won't work with another build even if we are using the same URL. It would give us a connection refuse. So developing environment compatibility would make it better."
"Postman is a bit more of a complex tool, making it an area where improvements can be made."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a free subscription option to start and try the service."
"It is easy to get started with personal (free) accounts, but a subscription is required for additional features."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"I use the tool's free version."
"We are using its free version."
"Its price is moderate as compared to other competitors. The version that we are using is not open source, so it is not free."
"The solution is free for individuals, but for companies that use it across the organization, you have to pay per user."
"Postman is an open-source product. It is free to download from Google."
"We use the open-source version. They introduced a new licensing model where your company must subscribe to their services if you're using it for business purposes. However, I think they charge too much if you're only using the basic features. It limits what your organization can do if you're not a paying customer."
"The solution has a licensing fee which might be prohibitive."
