Effective periodic backups enable seamless data recovery
Our primary use case for AWS Backup is for taking periodic backups of our production servers. We schedule these backups to ensure we have the latest snapshots of our servers in place In case of an outage, we are able to restore our servers from the backup. This ensures business continuity and…

Offers extensive automation capabilities, ransomware remediation and sensitive data discovery are better than other solutions
Rubrik is an important tool for data recovery in case of a ransomware attack. It's a crucial part of their overall venture, as data recovery would be difficult without it. The guarantee of data restoration in a crisis is the main benefit. It's a combination of all features that offer value, like ransomware remediation and sensitive data discovery, that are better than other solutions. Rubrik is emerging with its AI capabilities. Rubrik's AI companion is called Ruby which is very useful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is highly scalable for both SMEs and large enterprises."
"RDS backup is one of the most crucial components of any client's cloud environment, so we generally use that. Additionally, we store EBS snapshots in S3."
"I rate the tool's stability a nine out of ten."
"What I like about AWS Backup is its simple approach to a complex problem."
"It provides an easy data migration process from on-premise to cloud."
"It is an easy-to-use solution."
"When I was using an on-premises backup, there was an external hard drive or something like that. I had a backup server, but I had a few problems related to transfer when I had to restore something that I have deleted. I had to wait for after-office hours to do something like that, but now I just have to send a mail. Within one hour, I have my restored file."
"We can directly back up EC2 instances in AWS without using any third-party applications."
"We had some VMware issue as VMware did some changes on the AHCI drivers. Rubrik saved our environment those times."
"It has the ability to test DR in a controlled, inexpensive way and to restore between environments."
"Its reporting is most valuable. I like how it reports that everything is successfully backed up. It provides a summarized report that I can give to auditors and management."
"A Google-like file search, system scaling, and a frequent development cycle are some positives that this solution offers."
"The feature that I have found most valuable from Rubrik is its protection against ransomware attacks. Rubrik is a very nice, very good solution because it is able to protect your data and you have the possibility from the backup to detect any abnormal behavior, like a ransomware attack. You are able to detect and restore very easily with this solution. This is a major differentiator in comparison to the other competitors."
"Time dedicated to backup was drastically reduced."
"Rubrik is a very scalable and high-performing backup restore solution."
"I think the best feature is its masterless architecture."

Cons

"There could be a centralized dashboard with a reporting feature notifying us of daily backup status."
"One improvement I would like to see in AWS Backup is the implementation of incremental backups."
"If AWS Backup were a hybrid solution that also supported on-premises backups then it would be very helpful, especially if you are doing a migration to the cloud."
"When it comes to encrypting data, it is not so convenient."
"For additional functionalities, it should be more intelligent, like more AI-capabilities."
"This backup tool does the full backup of the entire snapshot server. I would like to have the option to not do the full server backup."
"Only the price could be improved."
"They should work on their visual capabilities."
"The Polaris piece could use improvement. When you get a report and you have events that are suspicious, you cannot drill down and find out why it's suspicious. You only know it's suspicious, but you don't know the root cause. Other than that, everything works well."
"I would like to have a built-in index searching ability of files/system files within the Rubrik interface to determine if a file or item exists, rather than just recovering it, and then doing a search for the file afterwards."
"They have what's called an organization which means different groups of access to Rubrik, but the alerting only goes to the admins. My suggestion to Rubrik is to make sure that the separate organizations or groups of users get the appropriate alerting."
"I don't like Rubrik's user interface because it's not intuitive, and I find it hard to get the information I need."
"User interface could be improved."
"Two areas I would like to see improvement in Rubrik are pricing and localization."
"Capacity reports could definitely be improved. It's hard to determine what is using the space and why. For instance, you can see that some host is using 2 TB on the Rubrik node and the disk space on that host is 400 GBs. It's hard to explain how there can be 2 TBs of data on local storage when nothing has changed on the host for the past three days."
"There is room for improvement in pricing. After the licensing, the price tends to go up as time goes by."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a myth that Cloud is cheap. Cloud is cheap initially, but the cost over time can be equal to your own infrastructure if you consume a lot."
"Its price is much cheaper than some vendors but more expensive than others."
"AWS Backup is a very cheap solution."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"The product is inexpensive."
"The pricing is okay."
"Price-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten. One only has to pay for the storage cost of AWS solutions, which is the standard cost provided by AWS."
"The clients pay for the whole AWS bundle. It is an affordable solution."
"We pay annually for the license for Rubrik. There are no additional costs. Initially, we needed to set it up, negotiate and finalize the offer."
"We are on an annual license to use Rubrik and it is priced well."
"It’s simple, straightforward, and we were able to see 50% hard savings."
"Rubrik is a little bit expensive, but it's worth the price."
"Rubrik is priced high, but it was the solution that was providing us encryption and was secure. The solution price is high, but you get what you pay for."
"Rubrik's support is definitely on the expensive side, but I consider it to be top of the line. We incur no additional costs beyond the standard licensing fees."
"There are additional costs like maintenance, and there are some features on their central management piece that don't come with our licensing."
"You need to understand what you're getting for the price. You are getting a backup solution, which is state of the art and works absolutely flawlessly. You are getting the storage needed to store your backups. You have all the sexy features that a modern backup solution can provide you, like deduplication, erasure coding, compression, fast execution time, secured data, and top-notch customer support. So, it might be expensive on paper. It's not free, but when you analyze what you are getting and the time you can spend on other stuff, then Rubrik is very cost-efficient."
