Sentiment score
7.7
Informatica IDMC is generally reliable despite occasional issues, with strong vendor support ensuring minimal downtime and manageable bugs.

Room For Improvement

BigID struggles with file viewing, security, reliability, regional classifiers, consent management, cost, and centralized access limitations.
Informatica IDMC needs UI improvements, better automation, pricing review, enhanced support, and performance enhancements for optimal usability.
There is also an issue with incident tagging, where all objects get tagged without an option to untag specific ones, and reverting changes is only possible through MongoDB Central, which can lead to data loss for certain periods.
The tool needs to mature in terms of category-specific attributes or dynamic attributes.

BigID offers modular pricing based on features, making it cost-effective for large enterprises but less suitable for small businesses.
Informatica IDMC pricing is high, varies by project, and often suits large enterprises with negotiable options.

It ranges from a quarter million to a couple of million a year.

Informatica IDMC provides flexible data management with seamless integration, AI capabilities, and robust governance for efficient data handling.
The most valuable feature of BigID is its large number of classifiers, which allow us to scan for specific data such as SSN numbers.
The platform's ability to pull in data from other platforms without the need for an additional integration tool enhances its appeal.

Commendable and robust data-centric tool
The initial setup is complex. There's a nuance to it, and that's one of the things that's been interesting as the technologies evolve. It's not complex in and of itself. You can install it quickly and attach data quickly. The complexity arises because most organizations I've worked with are thinking about their data for the first time. So, while installing the software and operationalizing it is easy, the onboarding and understanding of the data, design, legacy systems, and everything from Oracle to side-based to MS Access, that's where it gets tricky. They need to catalog, correlate, combine, rationalize, and really think through it all. So, the software itself is easy to implement and operate. But the operational side, from the client's perspective, requires a commitment. It's like buying a circular saw and expecting to build a house. The tool will take you some of the way, but if you don't have the underlying knowledge, you're going to struggle.

Offers profiling and address standardization but can be complicated
Informatica Data Quality has its data warehouse, primarily using Oracle and some SQL databases. You need a database to host the data. The cleansed version of the data is stored in the data warehouse. It integrates with PowerCenter and other Informatica tools. The integration details can be complex, but a regional setup is involved in this process. Profiling smaller datasets, such as 10,000-50,000 records, worked fine. However, unexpected issues could arise with larger datasets, such as thousands of records or more, especially with tables containing many columns. Handling tables with fifty or more columns can be challenging, even in Excel. A mismatch in data types could cause the entire system to crash. Continual enhancements are being made to address these issues, which can be unique to specific industries like finance and healthcare.
