Great for detection and access with the capabilities of defining specific rules
Support is the biggest area for improvement. Check Point is responsive, however, their support agents seem to be very siloed in their ability and/or product knowledge. It takes time and escalation to get through most tickets as they are passed from one group to another and then back again. We are able to navigate our support issues with the aid of our account team, so I want to underscore that support is indeed responsive. However, the processes support techs have to follow seem to be the root cause of the support response issues.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Behavior analytics and monitoring capabilities of Check Point IPS are valuable, especially for cybersecurity purposes."
"Check Point Intrusion Prevention System has great profiles, and we can continuously create, modify, activate, deactivate or configure any specific setting to allow the profile to focus on just one thing or for certain attacks."
"It offers robust protection with features such as Next Generation firewall capabilities, mobile solutions, and proactive threat prevention."
"The notifications are the most valuable feature of the solution."
"Its event analysis and centralization features are very important for any organization."
"We are able to define our own rules for detection."
"IPS logs enable complete visibility and reporting through the smart console."
"The autonomous threat prevention is very easy to use. The APIs and SmartConsole tool also work well."
"The product's most valuable feature is the ease of deploying IoT security with a single click. Additionally, the frequent updates to the online database ensure that our security measures are always up to date, enhancing our protection against emerging threats."
"The solution is easy to use."
"The most effective features for threat prevention are the IPS, content filter, and SD-WAN capabilities."
"The VPN used with the product is secure and reliable without lag."
"The solution is user-friendly."
"My company never had any complaints about the tool in terms of performance or stability."
"It is a good product. It does what we want it to do so. I didn't find many false-positives or things like that. We mainly use the IPS and URL filtering features, and they are pretty good."
"It is a reliable solution."

Cons

"Support is the biggest area for improvement."
"What I would like to improve in IPS would be the capacity of the hardware. I would also like to be able to sort signatures by severity. This would greatly impact how well I can manage my environment."
"Sometimes we had false positives where packages that were legitimate for us were blocked and we had to unblock them through exceptions."
"Signature tuning should be more user-friendly in the tool because, as per my experience, signature tuning is tough in Check Point IPS."
"The only thing they could maybe improve is that we notice right away that the performance decreases when we enable the IPS, especially beyond the CPU and memory usage. If you want to enable the IPS and you have a lot of traffic, it can have an impact. The performance could be improved."
"The installation documentation has room for improvement."
"The cost is high."
"Some challenges might exist with integration depending on the environment."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper."
"It would be better if they had a dashboard where we could see what attacks were happening. It would be good to see who's trying to get into our network."
"The initial deployment could be improved."
"They should add a feature for detailed reporting."
"Monitoring could be improved."
"Right now, it's not really scalable, but it's okay for us. However, looking ahead to three years from now, we might have a problem with scalability. We foresee a little risk down the road. The stability is okay for now."
"The dashboard is not user friendly so is a bit complicated."
"They should provide us with a CSV number for patch updates. It will help us block specific signatures as well."

"The tool's licensing model is good. The licensing costs are yearly. I rate it an eight out of ten."
"The pricing for Check Point IPS is competitive and brings good value for the money."
"It is a reasonably priced product."
"You can pay for Check Point IPS yearly, or you can go with a three-year license. There's no extra cost apart from the standard licensing fee."

"The solution could be better priced."
"The licensing costs are very competitive."
"They are more expensive than others."
"Fortinet FortiGate IPS' licensing is quite simple to understand."
"It's a year based license."
"I pay €1,200 per year for the license along with Fortinet's 81E firewall appliance. I would rate this pricing as 3/5 stars, and I believe the price is reasonably similar to its competitors in the market, being somewhere in the middle."
