Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Commvault HyperScale X is the automatic nature of its operation. We don't need to worry about sets of documents. It worked automatically, we don't need to think about it. When you set the solution up in a good way, you don't need to worry."
"Metallic's customer service — their technical support and their sales and customer contact representatives — were world-class; among the best customer service interactions I've had with anyone, anywhere, for any reason."
"Commvault can support any workload that you have in your environment."
"From a real-life experience, I can say it cut down the time our customers spent on backup tasks by about 60 percent."
"Metallic has definitely improved our ability to back up and restore email, as well as the other online systems."
"Technical support is great."
"It is a stable solution."
"We have multiple workloads, including SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, especially Sybase, as well as file systems, VMs, and Exchange mailboxes. Commvault provides very good support for them."
"This solution works really well and it is simple to deploy."
"I like this solution and recommend it to clients."
"The deployment is quite simple. Users are generally happy because of the familiarity they have with the features. The solution offers good transparency for the end-user."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work. The backup process is automated which is great."
"The solution is extremely stable; we haven't come across any bugs, crashes, or glitches."
"I like the fact that it gives you the possibility to set the data out of the customer on-premises site and to have an off-site copy in your Cloud Data Center."
"Replication without network changes."
"A really good feature is backing up the emails of the company."

Cons

"The initial setup was complicated."
"The product is expensive."
"The product is a bit complex."
"The solution is expensive in comparison to similar solutions."
"Permissions can be tricky. There is granularity when trying to get people to write permissions to be able to view, backup, and restore."
"There could be improvements to the backup failures."
"The reporting could be improved because the reports we get from our partner aren't sufficient. It isn't very detailed. I'm not sure if it's an issue with our partner or Metallic. They do a full backup on Monday and incremental backups throughout the week. However, we don't get detailed reports about the size of the incremental backups. The report just tells us whether a backup was successful."
"The tool must improve the 1-Touch recovery of Oracle and Active Directory."
"We need the solution to offer IT storage."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is."
"The flexibility results in more administrative GUI. The GUI needs improvement."
"Some of the features I'd like added to the solution would be coming up in version 12, so the only area for improvement I saw in Veeam Cloud Connect was the need to have more support for object storage."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"The solution needs to be more scalable. There should be no reason to set up Veeam Cloud Connect and have 10 servers in order to have a cloud backup. The initial setup could be easier."
"If a customer has a low budget, Veeam may be too expensive."
"I think Veeam Cloud Connect could be more stable, scalable, and secure. I think better pricing is needed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its cost is reasonable, but anybody else can do better benchmarking."
"The solution is expensive, but it is worth the money."
"The solution is licensed based on the number of objects that we're going to back up, and that's a known quantity. As a result, we get predictable costs for our backup requirements."
"...the battle came down to pricing, as well as some small features, and Commvault was the best in all the criteria."
"I rate the product’s pricing a seven out of ten."
"The solution is bundled with hardware licensing. If I want to increase the hardware, I have to buy exactly the same because it's based on the core hardware license. We cannot tell discount because we have an NDA signed with Commvault because of my academic license. The solution is more expensive than NetBackup and Veeam but cheaper than Rubrik."
"You have to pay for the licenses and the hardware you need for the Commvault environment. If you don't have all the hardware, you have to buy it, which can cost a few million. In the end, it's vital to protect our data, so the price isn't an issue."
"The cost for Commvault is very expensive, even support is very expensive. The full cost of the solution is 50,000 INR per year, which includes 20 VM backups, server data backup, and 200 desktop and laptop agent licenses."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
