Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Great backup that's user-friendly and very reliable
The initial setup is very straightforward. It is easy. There are no great difficulties when setting up the solution. Even the configuration is simple. The deployment itself takes only a couple of days. It only takes one person to install it. You do not need a big team. We had an engineer manage it. The product does not require any maintenance.

"Veeam Cloud Connect is used extensively, and there's a plan to increase its usage in the future."
"The best part about this solution is that it just works."
"The stability and restore options on the solution are very good."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work. The backup process is automated which is great."
"The solution is already far more advanced than our customers require. It offers advanced scripting and automation pre-testing to support the custom library and custom tasks."
"I like this solution and recommend it to clients."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work."
"I've found flexibility to the most valuable feature. I also like that it's scalable and that the stability is okay."

Cons

"The product is a bit complex."
"There could be improvements to the backup failures."
"The Java interface is not great."
"The product could be easier to implement, they could create a new console to configure the solution."
"There is room for improvement in its user interface and web console, called Command Center. They are improving it every year so if they continue in that direction, I think it will be a very reliable console."
"Commvault is a rich system that might scare somebody the first time they see it because it feels so huge."
"In a price comparison, definitely Avamar is the winner."
"The setup was a little bit difficult for a non-IT person like me."
"Pricing could be improved and I also think archiving could be improved."
"We need the solution to offer IT storage."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"There are some issues with the cloud providers for Veeam Cloud Connect that do not support all the features."
"If a customer has a low budget, Veeam may be too expensive."
"The pricing is much higher than what our clients expect it to be."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Commvault HyperScale X is a lot higher than competitors. As a government institution, we have annual costs. We made a budget for one year in advance. It was difficult to calculate the other solution's costs because each solution has another way of licensing. The solution is expensive but it is very good and we know the good quality we will be receiving."
"The complete license gives us options for all the features. Commvault does not license based on storage or the management components. It can integrate with any storage vendor. That means that when we are out of storage and need more, we can integrate without additional licensing. In my opinion, Commvault needs to reduce the licensing cost by 20 to 40 percent to make it cost-efficient."
"Metallic is an affordable solution."
"Hands down, Metallic provides us with more predictable costs for our backup requirements. You are getting what you pay for. If they are charging you X amount of dollars at that point, that is what you are going to pay. So far, I have not seen any hidden costs or any kind of gotchas. It is pretty cut-and-dry. They will let you know, "Hey, you are going to use our storage and it will cost you this much. You are going to use your storage, then we are going to charge you this much to backup.""
"The tool is cost-effective."
"The tool is affordable."
"The license for Commvault HyperScale X is paid annually."
"Commvault licensing is a perpetual license so only the support is being renewed yearly."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
