Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's very user-friendly. It supports a wide range of workloads. It's quite easy to use, it's very powerful and it's scalable."
"This solution gives me the full insight without having to use other products, metrics, or reporting tools."
"We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it."
"Everything is flexible in the web console."
"The diversity on offer is very, very good. Everything is supported. It's great."
"This is a very stable product."
"The most valuable feature is the ability it gives me to automate backups well and consistently, and to follow up on them as well. It also provides consistent recovery processes. Whenever we have needed to do a restore, it has worked quickly and efficiently."
"Commvault can perform a backup no matter where you are, and it takes a backup every four hours. No matter when you come to the office, it'll take a backup if you're connected to the internet and check the system for online availability."
"For my needs, the solution offers everything I want."
"Veeam Cloud Connect is used extensively, and there's a plan to increase its usage in the future."
"The deployment is quite simple. Users are generally happy because of the familiarity they have with the features. The solution offers good transparency for the end-user."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect are its ease of use and the portal is very useful."
"The solution is already far more advanced than our customers require and offers advanced scripting and automation pre-testing to support the custom library and custom tasks."
"Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work."
"With Veeam, you get a useable copy when you restore a backup."

Cons

"HyperScale X is not user-friendly. There are many settings that have to be done on your own."
"I would like to see a more user-friendly GUI."
"They can improve the security level for Windows."
"The Java interface is not great. The Command Center interface is far better and it looks nicer, but it doesn't have all the powerful features available in the CommServe/Java console. The place to improve the product is on the management interface level."
"We've run into some issues when attempting to restore very large numbers of files."
"The price could be lower."
"It is a little more complicated than it really needs to be."
"The product is expensive."
"Some of the features I'd like added to the solution would be coming up in version 12, so the only area for improvement I saw in Veeam Cloud Connect was the need to have more support for object storage."
"The pricing is much higher than what our clients expect it to be."
"The solution needs to be more scalable. There should be no reason to set up Veeam Cloud Connect and have 10 servers in order to have a cloud backup. The initial setup could be easier."
"I think Veeam Cloud Connect could be more stable, scalable, and secure."
"I would like to see more advanced training courses made available to cover complicated use cases."
"Basically, a huge amount of storage capacity can be required in certain cases."
"We were interested in investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in VMware. VMware right now is one of the biggest solutions in the world, in terms of the IT environment. But for Cloud Connect it's not."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
"I would rate the price of Commvault Cloud seven out of ten with ten being the cheapest."
"The price could perhaps be lower as well."
"It is a little too high. I would like to get more of a consumption model or more of a periodic true-up type of model that is more friendly to the ups and downs that you may have in your data instead of locking into multi-year agreements."
"Commvault's pricing model and pricing structure were initially confusing, but once we worked more closely with the company, we were able to transition to a subscription license that saved us a lot of money."
"You have to pay for the licenses and the hardware you need for the Commvault environment. If you don't have all the hardware, you have to buy it, which can cost a few million. In the end, it's vital to protect our data, so the price isn't an issue."
"The product is cheap."
"The complete license gives us options for all the features. Commvault does not license based on storage or the management components. It can integrate with any storage vendor. That means that when we are out of storage and need more, we can integrate without additional licensing. In my opinion, Commvault needs to reduce the licensing cost by 20 to 40 percent to make it cost-efficient."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
