Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Great backup that's user-friendly and very reliable
The initial setup is very straightforward. It is easy. There are no great difficulties when setting up the solution. Even the configuration is simple. The deployment itself takes only a couple of days. It only takes one person to install it. You do not need a big team. We had an engineer manage it. The product does not require any maintenance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product is user-friendly."
"Overall, this is a good product and very capable."
"The most valuable part of the solution is that it is fire-and-forget."
"We are finally back with Commvault, and we now have a 100% compliance backup solution."
"Commvault is unique in the backup and recovery category because if you are using Commvault as a backup, you don't need any additional software to have an archiving solution."
"Their support is awesome."
"Commvault Cloud stands out for its ease of use and reliable backups, along with its ability to handle large data volumes for VMs, servers, and applications."
"The convenience of backing up and restoring simultaneously is very valuable."
"The interesting part of the solution is that the customer does not have to invest in a second site to store their offsite backups."
"Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options."
"Veeam Backup and Replication is still one of the most cost-effective backup solutions on the market and offers very good value for money."
"With Veeam, you get a useable copy when you restore a backup."
"Replication without network changes."
"It's a great product because it's great scalability and it scales out from small to big companies perfectly."
"the interface is the most valuable feature and for the client it's security."
"I like this solution and recommend it to clients."

Cons

"The setup was a little bit difficult for a non-IT person like me. My OneDrive is protected by multifactor authentication, and to get the backup to begin behind that multifactor authentication took a little bit of almost customized support, even though I was following the instructions and the videos. That process could have been easier."
"The price of Commvault HyperScale X could improve."
"The initial setup is rather complex, especially when switching versions."
"The solution is expensive in comparison to similar solutions."
"Commvault HyperScale X is more expensive for hybrid environments than traditional solutions."
"With so many features, sometimes you cannot find what you are looking for in the interface and you have to dig into books online to find out how to solve an issue."
"The setup was a little bit difficult for a non-IT person like me."
"The product could be easier to implement, they could create a new console to configure the solution."
"The security of encrypted data could be better."
"The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"Some of the features I'd like added to the solution would be coming up in version 12, so the only area for improvement I saw in Veeam Cloud Connect was the need to have more support for object storage."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"If a customer has a low budget, Veeam may be too expensive."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."
"The flexibility results in more administrative GUI. The GUI needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of an integrator license is moderate and its features cover most customers."
"It is quite expensive when compared to other applications in the market. Its license is completely based on workload capacity. If I buy a license for 100 terabytes, I can back up anything. I can back up any platform, technology, or application, which is an advantage. Previously, we had to buy an agent for a particular application, and the cost was different for each agent. Now, the cost is completely based on the storage capacity. The license for one terabyte can cost around $1,700 for backing up anything from your environment."
"I rate the product’s pricing a seven out of ten."
"You have to pay for the licenses and the hardware you need for the Commvault environment. If you don't have all the hardware, you have to buy it, which can cost a few million. In the end, it's vital to protect our data, so the price isn't an issue."
"The price should be reduced because it is too expensive for our customers."
"The license is paid on an annual basis and the price is reasonable."
"Everyone else offers the subscription-based model nowadays, while Commvault Complete Data Protection still has the traditional license model, where you must buy a set of licenses. You pay for one hundred licenses even if you only use fifty virtual machines, so the licensing model needs improvement."
"We work with Commvault and a partner on our environment needs according to capacity, licensing, pricing, components, modules, etc. Additional costs depend on your backup needs."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
