Unified data protection has simplified hybrid backups and has improved ransomware recovery speed
Commvault Cloud's best feature in terms of protection is that it provides data protection and accomplishes its job effectively. It offers a unified approach to backup across all environments, including on-premises, public cloud, and SaaS applications such as M365 and Salesforce. I also use it for virtual machines and databases. The unified protection approach helps my team manage different environments effectively. Before Commvault Cloud, I used a separate VM backup tool to protect the VMware environment. For database backup, I had to use the native tool or backup scripts. For the cloud part, I had to use the native AWS or Azure cloud tools. After moving to Commvault Cloud, a single policy or a set of backup policies is applied across virtual machines, databases, workloads, and cloud workloads. I can protect my environments, which reduces manual configuration errors. Regarding visibility, it provides one dashboard to manage and centralize monitoring of all workloads. It is very easy to track backup success or failure. I can see the SLA compliance and storage usage without needing to jump between tools to check or have visibility of it. Regarding the recovery experience, the recovery time has been reduced drastically by using Commvault Cloud. It has simplified cloud management and provides easier manageability to manage retention policies, encryption policies, and compliance rules. This helps reduce operational workloads. Commvault Cloud has impacted me very positively. It simplifies and unifies data protection across hybrid workloads. Instead of managing multiple backup tools for virtual machines, databases, and SaaS applications, I now have a single platform with consistent policies and centralized visibility. This has really reduced my operational complexity and improved backup reliability. Regarding the cyber resiliency posture, the immutable backups and ransomware recovery workflow give me greater confidence in recovering quicker from potential risks. Commvault Cloud has positively impacted me in several key areas: unified backup management across environments, reduced operational overhead, improved ransomware resiliency, faster recovery times, better visibility for compliance, and easier management of hybrid or cloud workloads.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I can leverage on cloud storage technologies as well and restore it with granularity level that I have not seen in any other data management tool."
"Whoever has an Endpoint license can store unlimited data on the cloud."
"Commvault is stable, we've never had problems with it, it's always available, and it's doing the job without any issues."
"There are many valuable features of Commvault HyperScale X giving many possibilities to complete jobs, particularly with the backup and restore."
"Commvault is my number one for ability to easily manage very complex environments with very little administrative effort."
"Commvault provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover data."
"The most valuable features of Commvault Cloud include deduplication and compression."
"It's very stable."
"For my needs, the solution offers everything I want."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Cloud Connect is the server backups, such as the Microsoft Windows server. Additionally, the updates provide useful enterprise functionality."
"Replication without network changes."
"Technical support is perfect, they are very helpful."
"The administration and management integrate with multiple solutions, not just with one or two environments, even if they're not VMware products, and we've found this to be a valuable feature."
"The interesting part of the solution is that the customer does not have to invest in a second site to store their offsite backups."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work. The backup process is automated which is great."
"The most valuable feature is that it is very elastic. It's adaptable because it's very flexible and modular."

Cons

"Commvault's price is quite high."
"It takes a lot of steps to implement backups. We have to do a lot of planning to make the solution work properly. It takes some time to create every policy. It's an easy task, but there are many steps. It's not as easy as using Veeam."
"The initial setup was complex."
"Sometimes there are people, personnel, that are not that well educated. Sometimes I know more than the person I'm talking to and they are supposed to be helping me with technical problems."
"I would like them not to push Command Center. It is good, but I would like them to enable all the features for the Java console. Some things are not in the Java console, like Office 365 agents. In fact, they are there, but one of the engineers had to show me how to configure it. It's not done the same as in the Command Center."
"Getting my guys the right access has a learning curve. Sometimes, it is, "Oh, okay. I think I got it for you." Then, they say, "Oh, nope. I logged in but I can't see this." Then, it is, "Okay, hold on. Give me a second. Let me change that. Okay, it's this one." That learning curve has probably taken a little bit longer than some simpler things. So, Metallic has some granularity, and as a systems administrator, I appreciate that. At the same time, I also realize that I have to learn it."
"The navigation of it needs improvement in terms of the UX. The product itself, it works as expected. It's all user experience and user interface improvements that could be made and it could be made a little more consumer-friendly."
"The local support could be improved."
"The solution could improve the stability."
"The flexibility results in more administrative GUI. The GUI needs improvement."
"Some of the features I'd like added to the solution would be coming up in version 12, so the only area for improvement I saw in Veeam Cloud Connect was the need to have more support for object storage."
"Basically, a huge amount of storage capacity can be required in certain cases."
"I think the pricing could be improved and I also think archiving could be improved."
"The security of encrypted data could be better."
"Doesn't back-up from KVM."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
"There is a bit of cost involved with signing up the entire solution. It's not a cheap solution."
"Commvault Backup & Recovery is perhaps the best value for our money that I have seen in a backup product."
"We went from Veritas NetBackup to Commvault. We switched due to upfront licensing and costs. We have more visibility into what we're actually purchasing. It seemed like, overall, the cost of Commvault was cheaper."
"I rate the product’s pricing a five out of ten."
"The license is paid on an annual basis and the price is reasonable."
"It is quite expensive when compared to other applications in the market. Its license is completely based on workload capacity. If I buy a license for 100 terabytes, I can back up anything. I can back up any platform, technology, or application, which is an advantage. Previously, we had to buy an agent for a particular application, and the cost was different for each agent. Now, the cost is completely based on the storage capacity. The license for one terabyte can cost around $1,700 for backing up anything from your environment."
"The pricing is fairly in line with the other products we've compared it with recently. We do spend more on it than we did in our Backup Exec days, but it's fairly competitive with some of the other best-in-class data protection platforms."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
