Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Great backup that's user-friendly and very reliable
The initial setup is very straightforward. It is easy. There are no great difficulties when setting up the solution. Even the configuration is simple. The deployment itself takes only a couple of days. It only takes one person to install it. You do not need a big team. We had an engineer manage it. The product does not require any maintenance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Go for Commvault. It is a very strong, stable solution."
"Commvault is very good in terms of performance backup."
"The most important feature is that everything can be controlled using a single console."
"It is a stable solution."
"We specialize in Commvault and IntelliSnap. Commvault covers all our customers' backup needs in one system, and they have complete control over their Snapshot backups. Snapshots are important to our customers because of the size of their data sets."
"The rate of duplication is great."
"HyperScale X is really user-friendly and has a lot of features, and it's also cheaper, faster, and more stable than its competitors."
"I can leverage on cloud storage technologies as well and restore it with granularity level that I have not seen in any other data management tool."
"I like the fact that it gives you the possibility to set the data out of the customer on-premises site and to have an off-site copy in your Cloud Data Center."
"The deployment is quite simple. Users are generally happy because of the familiarity they have with the features. The solution offers good transparency for the end-user."
"The most valuable quality of Veeam Cloud Connect is its reliability."
"The solution is extremely stable; we haven't come across any bugs, crashes, or glitches."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work."
"It's a stable solution."
"Replication without network changes."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Cloud Connect is the server backups, such as the Microsoft Windows server. Additionally, the updates provide useful enterprise functionality."

Cons

"Sometimes there are people, personnel, that are not that well educated. Sometimes I know more than the person I'm talking to and they are supposed to be helping me with technical problems."
"What I need is deeper CLI documentation for both QCommand and SQL queries."
"The solution needs higher availability."
"Commvault has two management dashboards. The first is the CommCell Console, which is Java-based, and the second is Command Center. We don't always find all the features we need in the Command Center and we need to go through the Java console, and sometimes features are only on the Java console."
"I would rate the customer support five out of ten. Customer support has very closed departments, requiring us to shuffle between them to get one thing done because representatives have limited accessibility."
"Commvault is more expensive than Veeam, which is the reason that we are changing to Veeam for cloud environments."
"They don't market their products well. They don't do a lot of marketing to enable them to move forward."
"I would assess the Command Center as a very useful but sometimes difficult tool. It is multipurpose. It has all the features of logging and monitoring, especially for the actual setup. For us, it is easy because we work daily with it, but for customers who only use it once a week, they sometimes have some difficulties. Command Center is not user-friendly for beginners."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."
"The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"There are some issues with the cloud providers for Veeam Cloud Connect that do not support all the features."
"We need the solution to offer IT storage."
"Doesn't back-up from KVM."

"I rate the product’s pricing a seven out of ten."
"I rate the product’s pricing a five out of ten."
"Some of our customers say that Commvault is a very expensive solution, but Commvault has many features that the competitors don't have. It is not a good choice for a small or medium business, but it is a good choice for enterprise businesses."
"On a scale of one to ten, where ten is the highest price, I rate the pricing an eight."
"The licensing costs are determined on a yearly basis. It might be around $40,000 or $50,000. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."

"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
