Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Not everyone has agents for everything and Commvault has agents for most products. It's the most complete."
"The most valuable feature is Commvault's coverage, as it has wide coverage to back up every data center environment and can handle backing up any virtual workload or enterprise application while providing a single platform to move, manage, and recover data across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud locations."
"It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope."
"It's easy to configure multiple jobs and media agent locations for each server. We do offsite backups for all of our servers, but we also do onsite hourly backups of them. That has benefited us several times when we had an incident and didn't want to roll back a server an entire day."
"Commvault integrates well with all types of operating systems and supports heterogeneous environments."
"The fact that the solution is a single platform has enabled our company to accelerate growth."
"The most valuable feature of Commvault HyperScale X is the automatic nature of its operation. We don't need to worry about sets of documents. It worked automatically, we don't need to think about it. When you set the solution up in a good way, you don't need to worry."
"If we had lost that storage, it would have been a catastrophic loss of scientific data."
"One of the most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect is it does not require the use of an extremely fast internet connection for it to work. The backup process is automated which is great."
"Veeam Cloud Connect is used extensively, and there's a plan to increase its usage in the future."
"Replication without network changes."
"The most valuable feature is that it is very elastic. It's adaptable because it's very flexible and modular."
"The stability and restore options on the solution are very good."
"This solution works really well and it is simple to deploy."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect are its ease of use and the portal is very useful."
"It's a great product because it's great scalability and it scales out from small to big companies perfectly."

Cons

"With so many features, sometimes you cannot find what you are looking for in the interface and you have to dig into books online to find out how to solve an issue."
"Persistent binding is a feature that I would like to see in the next release of Commvault."
"The price could be lower."
"The initial setup was complex."
"I don't know much about the pricing and licensing, but I do know it is very expensive."
"The solution requires improvement with its connection and bandwidth."
"The retention log feature could be an issue for us and can be improved. The backup schedule can also be better in terms of how you set it up."
"One issue we face is the complexity of the console. That could be improved on."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors. They could work to build something around that concept."
"We need the solution to offer IT storage."
"Doesn't back-up from KVM."
"Some of the features I'd like added to the solution would be coming up in version 12, so the only area for improvement I saw in Veeam Cloud Connect was the need to have more support for object storage."
"Basically, a huge amount of storage capacity can be required in certain cases."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is very competitive for pricing in some countries because it is possible to set up Commvault hardware with other vendors using its certification."
"The price could perhaps be lower as well."
"The cost of an integrator license is moderate and its features cover most customers."
"Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
"...the battle came down to pricing, as well as some small features, and Commvault was the best in all the criteria."
"If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
"It is a bit more than other products, but when you consider the time savings, it is saving money."
"The licensing costs are determined on a yearly basis. It might be around $40,000 or $50,000. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
