Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Great backup that's user-friendly and very reliable
The initial setup is very straightforward. It is easy. There are no great difficulties when setting up the solution. Even the configuration is simple. The deployment itself takes only a couple of days. It only takes one person to install it. You do not need a big team. We had an engineer manage it. The product does not require any maintenance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are very happy now with the technical support, as it is Indian."
"Overall it has great features that fulfill our customers' expectations."
"I like the product because of its simplicity and the fact that it provides one single interface for managing everything, including storage, data, and policies."
"The user interface is very easy to navigate."
"It is easy to use and stable; it delivers what has been promised, and when it says it can do something, it can actually do it, as opposed to some of its competitors."
"The most valuable feature is the ability it gives me to automate backups well and consistently, and to follow up on them as well."
"Every server is online and the backup is also online, so we reduce the downtime and administrative overhead."
"We have evaluated three or four cloud-based backup solutions, but the other ones in the market didn't even come close to Commvault."
"The most valuable features are the fast replication and recovery of data."
"It's a great product because it's great scalability and it scales out from small to big companies perfectly."
"The most valuable quality of Veeam Cloud Connect is its reliability."
"Replication without network changes."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect are its ease of use and the portal is very useful."
"Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options."
"Generally speaking about Veeam, as a vendor, from a technical support perspective, I've really enjoyed the fact that they have a really high response rate."
"I've found flexibility to the most valuable feature. I also like that it's scalable and that the stability is okay."

Cons

"Its major disadvantage is it's expensive."
"We had some small issues with the reporting, but that was just a matter of fine-tuning the kinds of messages we receive by email. It was a little overwhelming in the initial configuration. So we reviewed our configuration with our partner and customized the reports so that we only get the important reports. I haven't seen any big issues or things that the solution is missing."
"With so many features, sometimes you cannot find what you are looking for in the interface and you have to dig into books online to find out how to solve an issue."
"They can improve the VMware recovery and VMware backup. There is an improvement area on the VMware infrastructure. They can make available what they call a VSA proxy. They can have an appliance-type setup to deploy VSA backups and help recover quicker. They can have an appliance ready. Instead of having to have a server dedicated to that and installing software on a server, they can just provide an actual appliance for that."
"It takes a lot of technical expertise to implement."
"Sometimes the web page doesn't work. I don't know if it's an outage or if there is maintenance going on in the background. From time to time, Commvault will suddenly stop taking backups for some intervals."
"The initial setup is rather complex, especially when switching versions."
"If I were to ask them to work on something, it would be the fidelity of the alerts that occur. They should tell me if it is a real event or not. It is easy for it to identify that something hit it but give me more information. They can build AI into the engine so that I get better output from an alert to tell me if I should really be interested in that or not."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."
"The security of encrypted data could be better."
"The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors."
"I would like to see more advanced training courses made available to cover complicated use cases."
"The solution could improve the stability."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors. They could work to build something around that concept."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its cost is reasonable, but anybody else can do better benchmarking."
"It would not be affordable for small to medium size organizations."
"The license for Commvault HyperScale X is paid annually."
"The price should be reduced because it is too expensive for our customers."
"The price could perhaps be lower as well."
"Its cost is reasonable."
"Based on the customer's needs, their pricing and model is very confusing sometimes. You need to check with their sales to make sure you are getting the right pricing on whatever you are using. I know that they have simplified a lot regarding the licensing model nowadays, but it is good to always double check and make sure it has everything that you really need."
"The license is paid on an annual basis and the price is reasonable."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
