Unified data protection has simplified hybrid backups and has improved ransomware recovery speed
Commvault Cloud's best feature in terms of protection is that it provides data protection and accomplishes its job effectively. It offers a unified approach to backup across all environments, including on-premises, public cloud, and SaaS applications such as M365 and Salesforce. I also use it for virtual machines and databases. The unified protection approach helps my team manage different environments effectively. Before Commvault Cloud, I used a separate VM backup tool to protect the VMware environment. For database backup, I had to use the native tool or backup scripts. For the cloud part, I had to use the native AWS or Azure cloud tools. After moving to Commvault Cloud, a single policy or a set of backup policies is applied across virtual machines, databases, workloads, and cloud workloads. I can protect my environments, which reduces manual configuration errors. Regarding visibility, it provides one dashboard to manage and centralize monitoring of all workloads. It is very easy to track backup success or failure. I can see the SLA compliance and storage usage without needing to jump between tools to check or have visibility of it. Regarding the recovery experience, the recovery time has been reduced drastically by using Commvault Cloud. It has simplified cloud management and provides easier manageability to manage retention policies, encryption policies, and compliance rules. This helps reduce operational workloads. Commvault Cloud has impacted me very positively. It simplifies and unifies data protection across hybrid workloads. Instead of managing multiple backup tools for virtual machines, databases, and SaaS applications, I now have a single platform with consistent policies and centralized visibility. This has really reduced my operational complexity and improved backup reliability. Regarding the cyber resiliency posture, the immutable backups and ransomware recovery workflow give me greater confidence in recovering quicker from potential risks. Commvault Cloud has positively impacted me in several key areas: unified backup management across environments, reduced operational overhead, improved ransomware resiliency, faster recovery times, better visibility for compliance, and easier management of hybrid or cloud workloads.

User-friendly interface, and reasonably priced but the support needs improvement
While the solution is generally satisfactory, we encountered difficulties when attempting to seek assistance for issues we faced. Getting the necessary help proved to be quite challenging. The after-sales service is not ideal for French-speaking customers like us in Quebec. Unfortunately, there is no local support available for us. We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers.

"When an interruption takes place due to an incident, the signaling and notification are very extensive."
"It hasn't given us any issues so far."
"While there are some complexities, Veeam tries to keep the product simple and offers a good knowledge base. It's quite structured, so you can easily take one subject and learn about it simply by reading through the documentation."
"Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options."
"It's a stable solution."

Cons

"The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises."
"The integration of Metallic could improve. It would be a benefit if Metallic could integrate with multiple applications or platforms."
"Data center backup must be improved."
"I need documentation for Azure backups. One expectation that I have is regarding PDF documentation. When I was trying to browse the documentation, I could not locate that."
"The solution needs higher availability."
"Sometimes, for customers, the setup is difficult compared to Veeam, which we sometimes also sell to much smaller customers."
"The technical support in the India region is a bit disappointing, but after 6:00 pm it is switched to the U.S and European teams, and they are much better in supporting and understanding the issues and fixing them."
"The retention log feature could be an issue for us and can be improved. The backup schedule can also be better in terms of how you set it up."
"The biggest thing that Cloud Connect needs is native deduplication."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"I would like to see more advanced training courses made available to cover complicated use cases."
"The solution should allow for interfacing with other public cloud vendors. They could work to build something around that concept."
"We need the solution to offer IT storage."
"There are some issues with the cloud providers for Veeam Cloud Connect that do not support all the features."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You have to pay for the licenses and the hardware you need for the Commvault environment. If you don't have all the hardware, you have to buy it, which can cost a few million. In the end, it's vital to protect our data, so the price isn't an issue."
"It is a little too high. I would like to get more of a consumption model or more of a periodic true-up type of model that is more friendly to the ups and downs that you may have in your data instead of locking into multi-year agreements."
"...the battle came down to pricing, as well as some small features, and Commvault was the best in all the criteria."
"Based on the customer's needs, their pricing and model is very confusing sometimes. You need to check with their sales to make sure you are getting the right pricing on whatever you are using. I know that they have simplified a lot regarding the licensing model nowadays, but it is good to always double check and make sure it has everything that you really need."
"The solution is highly-priced."
"I looked at this at the beginning of the year and I don't remember what the prices were for all the other services, but I thought that Metallic's was fair. It was also highly rated, which was even more important than cost because I need a reliable, secure, backup method."
"Our yearly cost is around €20,000... The cost is based on the number of users and the amount of data. They sell it per terabyte."
"The price could perhaps be lower as well."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
