Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This product has allowed us to recover data when we've had issues."
"Quick backups and restores of data are the most valuable features. It is important that it is an easy solution to integrate with the SAML authentication of our tenant, so we can have our users log into the systems and do their own restores, if needed."
"Real-time synchronization is a good feature."
"Commvault can do everything for every operating system and application, whether it is cloud-based, like Office 365, or not, it is possible with Commvault."
"Integration with Active Directory and the Azure platform make it a complete solution."
"Overall the solution is very good and highly stable."
"The most valuable features of Commvault Hyperscale X are the full responsibilities inclined in conversion with high responsibility rates."
"The solution has the fastest backup and better licensing."
"It's a great product because it's great scalability and it scales out from small to big companies perfectly."
"It hasn't given us any issues so far."
"For my needs, the solution offers everything I want."
"The solution is already far more advanced than our customers require. It offers advanced scripting and automation pre-testing to support the custom library and custom tasks."
"The most valuable quality of Veeam Cloud Connect is its reliability."
"The administration and management integrate with multiple solutions, not just with one or two environments, even if they're not VMware products, and we've found this to be a valuable feature."
"In my opinion, the console or dashboard is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"I am happy with their support, they are fast, and their response is very good."

Cons

"Our main pain point is that some of our hardware is old."
"The solution must provide deception files across the network."
"When we started using Commvault, we felt that there were some technical issues with managing it, but we are comfortable enough with managing it now. There were many issues, like index corrupting, when we first started, but all those issues were resolved by the Commvault tech team."
"Our customers complain that this is a difficult product to manage."
"Additional SaaS application support would be good... we have SaaS applications that may not be big enough for Commvault to support yet. Box.com is one we've asked about for years, and it's just not on the radar, as far as I know."
"It would be nice to have just one email report come in, then we can filter out failures. If everything is backed up, we really don't need to see the report. If it is in a single report. A simpler customised report would be good."
"Commvault is a rich system that might scare somebody the first time they see it because it feels so huge."
"Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't."
"Some of the features I'd like added to the solution would be coming up in version 12, so the only area for improvement I saw in Veeam Cloud Connect was the need to have more support for object storage."
"We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers."
"If a customer has a low budget, Veeam may be too expensive."
"The dashboard could be more intuitive."
"The solution could improve the stability."
"We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning."
"Basically, a huge amount of storage capacity can be required in certain cases."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its cost is reasonable."
"The solution is bundled with hardware licensing. If I want to increase the hardware, I have to buy exactly the same because it's based on the core hardware license. We cannot tell discount because we have an NDA signed with Commvault because of my academic license. The solution is more expensive than NetBackup and Veeam but cheaper than Rubrik."
"Based on the customer's needs, their pricing and model is very confusing sometimes. You need to check with their sales to make sure you are getting the right pricing on whatever you are using. I know that they have simplified a lot regarding the licensing model nowadays, but it is good to always double check and make sure it has everything that you really need."
"It is not the cheapest solution. I think the pricing is fair for mid-side customers. It is between all the other options."
"The solution is licensed based on the number of objects that we're going to back up, and that's a known quantity. As a result, we get predictable costs for our backup requirements."
"I rate the product’s pricing a seven out of ten."
"It is cheaper than Veeam."
"If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
