Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Simple and flexible backup solution
I mainly use Cloud Connect as a cloud backup repository Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options. I've been using Cloud Connect for about four years. We encountered some issues with stability at the beginning, but these were fixed after…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I can leverage on cloud storage technologies as well and restore it with granularity level that I have not seen in any other data management tool."
"Commvault allows us to use one product for almost everything; it's better than the competitors."
"Commvault is my number one for ability to easily manage very complex environments with very little administrative effort."
"The solution is scalable."
"Commvault is a stable solution for Red Hat Linux."
"The solution has provided our organization with a better security posture."
"It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope."
"A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform)."
"Generally speaking about Veeam, as a vendor, from a technical support perspective, I've really enjoyed the fact that they have a really high response rate."
"The solution is already far more advanced than our customers require and offers advanced scripting and automation pre-testing to support the custom library and custom tasks."
"The most valuable feature is the snapshot capability."
"The deployment is quite simple. Users are generally happy because of the familiarity they have with the features. The solution offers good transparency for the end-user."
"The best part about this solution is that it just works."
"the interface is the most valuable feature and for the client it's security."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect are its ease of use and the portal is very useful."
"Cloud Connect's best features are its simplicity, flexibility, and constantly-expanding options."

Cons

"Commvault is complex even if the product has comprehensive solutions and covers pretty much every technology out there."
"The functional integration could be better."
"Compared to Rubrik, MongoDB Data Protector, and NetBackup, Commvault is better. The licensing team was quite tricky recently because they stopped the unlimited files for that license. Commvault made a bank of 500GB only, a node-based license can take it, which is disappointing. Reporting needs to be more granular. Also, there should be a showback of data being backed up, and the backup cost to share the cost internally with the department."
"I would rate the customer support five out of ten. Customer support has very closed departments, requiring us to shuffle between them to get one thing done because representatives have limited accessibility."
"With respect to the cloud, they need to offer more integrations."
"There are many settings that have to be done on your own. It would benefit from a better interface."
"The customer support is not good."
"When we send a query to Commvault, they take a long time to answer our questions."
"Basically, a huge amount of storage capacity can be required in certain cases."
"If a customer has a low budget, Veeam may be too expensive."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"Doesn't back-up from KVM."
"I would like to see more advanced training courses made available to cover complicated use cases."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."
"The flexibility results in more administrative GUI. The GUI needs improvement."
"There are some issues with the cloud providers for Veeam Cloud Connect that do not support all the features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
"It was not very popular because of its previous cost, but they have been working on the pricing, and now anyone can afford to use Commvault. They changed the modeling criteria for their pricing. Previously, there was only the capacity modeling based on your content capacity. In this case, they would give you a license and you would have to pay it. Now, most of the environment is virtualized so you can have the best CPU, VMs, etc. You buy whatever you need and pay for what you need."
"The solution is expensive. However, there are no additional costs involved. I rate the pricing a five out of ten."
"If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
"It is cheaper than NetBackup, but its price can be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"Its cost is reasonable."
"It is cheaper than Veeam."
"The tool is affordable."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
