We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Great archive feature, OnePass, for the file system and Exchange servers.""Restoring is very fast. In testing, I did a restore for a single item from a mailbox. Within a minute, I had the message back in my mailbox. So, it didn't take hours or days. Obviously, there will be a limit. If we suddenly go into DR and have to restore five terabytes of emails for people, then it will take a couple of days, which would be acceptable. For general usage, where we have to do the odd restore, we have never had issues. It happens within minutes.""The multi-tenancy is the most valuable feature for us because it's the only software that is fully multi-tenant and that has all the features we need to provide to all our tenants. It provides us with advanced features for MySQL and Oracle, among other platforms""The product has the best features for scaling up and administering all the solutions from a single platform.""The most valuable feature is sharing data sets like they're in a private cloud. We call it our "private cloud" because we can share anything that is inside our backup set with our colleagues or with other people, and yet, everything is still in Belgrade, in Serbia. It's not somewhere else on cloud servers. Everything is in our environment.""Commvault Backup & Recovery's search utility is its most valuable feature.""We can go from one page to another page, from office backups to VM backups, or applications like secret backups. So everything can be configured or restored from a single pin.""The features I find most helpful in Commvault are its ability to perform incremental backups and significantly reduce backup times for our diverse multi-architecture, multi-environment environment."

"The reporting is very good compared to other tools.""They are a large company with good best practices, and they give good support.""It has a lot of very good features. The virtual tape library (VTL) feature is most valuable. Overall, it is easy to use.""It is very capable of scaling and very good for heterogeneous environments.""The NetBackup appliance features customized software that is designed for storage.""It has been our go-to product for backup.""The product enables me to recover the information of the appliances in the organization.""The solution uses minimal resources."

Cons
"There are two ways to use it and I prefer the web-based one over the app. I wish they were a little bit more matched in what they offer because the features aren't as available in the web-based interface as they are in the app.""Our main pain point is that some of our hardware is old. For example, the SSD disks for our application database are slow. It's hard to avoid a slowdown in our environment because the size of our backups is growing every year. If you're growing and don't upgrade the environment, you will see slower backups and restores. You must enhance the environment if you are growing.""Data center backup must be improved.""The only problem is that some of what we snap most of is the VMs. We found about 10% of the VMs that we can't snap because they're too interactive. It actually causes the application to crash.""We've faced problems backing up our virtual machines.""The navigation of it needs improvement in terms of the UX. The product itself, it works as expected. It's all user experience and user interface improvements that could be made and it could be made a little more consumer-friendly.""The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises.""It does not have an easy deployment. The deployment is not something that just anybody can go in and deploy."

More Commvault Cloud Cons →

"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve by having a site recovery feature.""The tool's pricing is expensive and could be lower.""The desirability of appliance solutions is dwindling in the marketplace.""The reporting feature can be improved.""The scalability could be improved.""They could simplify the process of installing, and provide more space for data during the process.""They need to make the licensing more clear. They should give all of the licensing details for the portals and be more clear. I have accidentally purchased the incorrect license because it's not clear.""The product must improve its recovery features."

  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
