A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.
Ahmed Handal - PeerSpot reviewer
Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Pros

"They are among the top in the world for backup and recovery."
"I am comfortable with using this product."
"The most valuable feature is that it is basically a replica of our SAND data. We archive the SAND data for recovery, if there is an issue on the fence."
"I like the cross-platform features."
"Logs are very easy to read, parse, and use for diagnostics."
"If you are running on a legacy tape environment NetBackup is best."
"Veritas NetBackup is very user-friendly and has some good quick recovery features."
"The solution has been very good over the years at fine-tuning various aspects of the product so that it is continuously made better."
"The product enables me to recover the information of the appliances in the organization."
"It has a lot of very good features. The virtual tape library (VTL) feature is most valuable. Overall, it is easy to use."
"I have no stability issues to report...The initial setup is quite simple."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it can be used in many different kinds of systems."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"The solution is useful for backups."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance fairly covers our enterprise requirements and supports all our databases and operating systems."
"The most valuable feature involves VMware Instant Recovery, which allows one to do restoration within seconds."

Cons

"In the next release, I would like to have a better way to protect against ransomware attacks and a better way of logging issues where you don't have to enable the verbose logging to capture the problems."
"NetBackup's reporting features are a little poor."
"The solution is quite expensive."
"It would be better if it had a cloud integration feature. I would like to use a single product for the cloud instances and the on-premise instances. The price could also be better."
"When the customer is using SaaS applications like Office 365, the integration falls short and needs to be improved."
"This product would be improved with the inclusion of a Sandbox feature like Veeam Sandbox."
"The virtual environment, cloud integration, copy data management features need improvement."
"Veritas NetBackup has some limitations and it would be a benefit if we had better documentation."
"We had some problems with the backup of the physical server."
"Sometimes, the user interface doesn't work smoothly."
"Veritas NetBackup would benefit from better explained error codes."
"The only drawback for NetBackup, and of course for Veritas, is that they have stuck to the same environment and to the same UI - User Interface. This needs to be improved in future releases. It needs to be more dynamic."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance can improve by having a more direct connection to the cloud. It should have the technology to be able to directly communicate with the cloud."
"The product must improve its recovery features."
"The response from the support team has not always been quick, so sometimes there is a risk."
"This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"The software and license are very expensive."
"Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses."
"Most people have felt this solution was somewhat expensive."
"If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
"We purchased a perpetual license and perform SMS renewals."
"If you want to have more scalability you have to purchase more licenses. The license is annually and there are a lot of different licensing depending on the number of terabytes needed. It is not based on per-user, core, or servers. You can backup anything you want using the purchased terabyte space."
"My licensing model is based on capacity so as we grow, the price we pay increases and it becomes too expensive."
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"The price of this solution is very high compared to other solutions."
"The licensing costs for this solution are very high."
"Overall, Veritas is a good solution; the problem is the cost."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten."
"This solution is expensive."
"I cannot say whether our licensing costs are on a monthly or annual basis, as we have a global contract."
