Reliable with good support but needs a better navigation menu
We use Veeam Data to back up our VMware infrastructure Veeam Data Platform is valuable for its stability and the ability to easily contact support for assistance. The support team provides answers whenever we need them. It is also one of the most scalable backup solutions I've worked with. The…

Efficient data recovery and replication features
There is a big change in Veritas. In the past, we could easily change servers or appliances and continue working by restoring the catalog. We could change servers from Linux to Linux or Linux to Solaris and perform catalog restores to continue working. But with the new version, we are forced to engage Veritas' professional services, which is too expensive. Sometimes, we've received quotes exceeding $100,000 for a catalog migration. This expense was unnecessary in the past. For instance, we used to install a new release of Linux and simply restore the catalog, and the system would function well. But with the latest version, it's no longer feasible. For instance, if we want to migrate from appliance 5030 to 5060 or even just 5050, we are compelled to engage Veritas consultants due to the intricate data manipulation involved. This additional expense is quite expensive. In the past, these devices didn't even exist, and we could easily restore the catalog, resulting in a fully functional system. However, the new version demands expensive expertise for such tasks, which I find unacceptable for our clients.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Very flexible, all-in-one solution."
"The technical support is excellent. It's one of the best I've met so far."
"Vendor integration for many of the enterprise features have allowed for us to have greater performance from our storage vendors further improving on our commitments to protect our clients' data."
"Veeam is easy to use."
"The features that I have found most valuable are its back up and recovery. It is a simplified backup because you can do both databases - VM and HyperV. It's a faster backup than the conventional methods because it takes up the bare metal."
"The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well."
"The most critical features of Veeam Data Platform for ensuring availability and integrity are its fast virtual machine restoration using duplication for quick backups and the COBRA point functionality that allows us to run regu"
"Strong performance with a high level of compatibility."
"I like the virtual server backup."
"The most valuable feature is its stability."
"The most valuable feature is the trouble-free operation, as we have not had many problems with it."
"The client side deduplication reduces the backup window."
"The most valuable features are the ability to create a trust relationship and historical reports."
"It is easy to use, and you can run it with all kinds of client software environments. It works well with the most popular software, file systems, and operating systems. It is very useful to us."
"The backup and restoration are 100 percent guaranteed."
"I have found the Media Server Deduplication tool, deployment policies, and agentless features to be the most valuable features."

Cons

"There are certain shortcomings associated with the virtualization infrastructure."
"Veeam ONE could be improved if it had a better data recovery feature."
"Veeam Backup is not enhanced. There aren't any enhancements yet and they are still using traditional methods for snapshots and to perform the backup, like many other vendors. Another improvement would be simplifying and integrating their software."
"Veeam Backup Replication is a bit difficult to use. If you have used other solutions such as Commvault, you will find it is much easier to use. Veeam Backup Replication does backups in a different way that is not as simple as other solutions. Doing backups of SQL Servers is much easier in Commvault. However, the difficulty could be the lack of experience I have had with Veeam Backup Replication."
"The pricing could be improved."
"The solution’s scalability could be improved."
"Veeam ONE should make available notifications through SMS."
"They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product."
"Veritas NetBackup has been in the backup and recovery market for quite a long time, but somehow, from my own observations and from feedback from end users, its user interface is lagging behind other comparable solutions such as Veeam."
"The ease of use needs improvement."
"The virtual environment, cloud integration, copy data management features need improvement."
"We have issues reaching them during some hours, and we need to escalate through several levels to get a resolution. Sometimes tickets stay open for days."
"There may be a learning curve."
"NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly."
"It is a very expensive solution. They should have a different scheme for selling it. They should also make it easy for us to switch from Solaris to Linux. We are having some trouble in migrating our actual catalog from Solaris to Linux."
"Improvements can be made to the service by providing better and more competitive ratios on data backups. The functionality for backups is there with Veritas, but I would like to see them optimize and enhance this feature more."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are on an annual license for Veeam Backup Replication. We could expand or upgrade the license for the Office365 features. Next year we might go to a three-year plan for support on license."
"The price is reasonable."
"Several licensing schemes are available."
"Veeam has been raising its prices in the last two years, so it's now lacking some competitiveness in pricing."
"I would suggest to others that they buy the full license when purchasing this solution."
"I understand from management that the DR component is too expensive."
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication is reasonable. It is not inexpensive nor is it expensive, it is in the middle range compared to other solutions. There can be additional costs for addons."
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication is reasonable."
"Our license is capacity-based."
"It is slightly more expensive than Commvault, but it is pretty much the same. It is an enterprise solution, so it scales quite well. It has a lot of features. So, you pay for what you get. It is not cheap, but it is fit for the purpose."
"The solution is expensive compared to other products."
"Its price is quite reasonable. The cost depends on the depreciation and the volume. It also depends on the infrastructure. If your infrastructure increases, you would need some more licenses."
"When you compare NetBackup's software licensing system with Veeam's, which is simpler and based on instances (or how many physical machines or virtual machines you want to protect), NetBackup isn't that competitive for smaller scale companies. However, if you're running many large workloads, then NetBackup may be the better option."
"There is a license required for this solution and it is priced based upon the data used."
"The price is fair."
"In terms of cost, it's not very good."
