Snapshots allow you to restore or view the image on either the DR or production side if data is compromised and integrate seamlessly with Dell EMC storage
I've worked closely with Dell since 2007. Back then, we could create a "Severity 1" case. I think they've discontinued that option. Now, you can create a "Severity 2" case. For Severity 1 issues, you can call the helpline. I've often recommended to Dell EMC Pakistan that there should be a portal option to create Severity 1 cases. Their engineers are good, but since COVID, many experienced engineers have left the company. This is a problem for every vendor, not just Dell EMC – they face challenges finding experienced technical engineers. So, while I recommend Dell EMC, sometimes they don't have the technical staff for very quick responses. In those cases, you might need to engage your account manager to find the best engineer on a Severity 1 issue.

Efficient replication and helpful for improving data processing and management
The technology behind Hitachi ShadowImage has been around for a long time, and while it works correctly, it does have some issues. We have experienced problems with it, even though Hitachi provides good hardware. Technical support could also be improved, as it sometimes takes a few days to resolve issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use RecoverPoint for disaster recovery and asynchronous replication, and we use the application at a block level, not the software level. This has been tested, and it's very durable."
"The solution is very stable. Once it's installed, many customers forget they even have it."
"It excels in duplicating data between two distinct types of storage systems."
"It can replicate data from a distant location and it can scan it as well. It has continuous data replication with almost no data loss."
"The solution provides continuous data protection."
"It has improved RTO and RPO."
"When it works, it is the best product that is available."
"The most valuable feature we have found in RecoverPoint is its ability to provide the lowest RPO."
"The most valuable features are its ability to handle large databases efficiently and the asynchronous replication capability."
"The most valuable feature of Hitachi ShadowImage is high-speed data transfer from one server to another. Other solutions would have problems with transferring 50 TB of data. I also like that Hitachi ShadowImage is easy to use."

Cons

"The initial setup is complex."
"Integration with VMware is the only thing we need to improve. Another feature I'd like to see is the ability to convert management to HTML. And the integration should also be done on the same level."
"The product should provide integration with new products."
"In the future, I would like Dell RecoverPoint to evolve as an orchestration tool that can integrate with other replication tools such as Microsoft native replication and Oracle Data Guard."
"RecoverPoint is designed to integrate seamlessly with Dell EMC storage. If you don't have Dell EMC storage, you can't use it with other brands like IBM or HP."
"When it comes to storage and backup, that is where scalability problems have affected us."
"Other hypervisors should be integrated with this system. Other hypervisors should be able to get the benefits of this solution."
"Dell RecoverPoint can be improved by virtualizing it, which would use less storage and enhance performance."
"We have experienced problems with it, even though Hitachi provides good hardware."
"API and script configuration in Hitachi ShadowImage is sometimes complicated, so this is an area for improvement. Another area for improvement is that the Hitachi ShadowImage interface isn't as user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is moderate."
"RecoverPoint came free as an add-on to the PowerProtect Data Manager backup software from Dell EMC."
"While I recommend Dell EMC, it depends on your specific use case. Licensing is perpetual, meaning you buy it once."
"The product is fairly priced."
"Support is an additional subscription."
"It is considered quite costly."
"I don't have pricing information for Hitachi ShadowImage because my manager handled it."
