StarWind Virtual Tape Library and Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes are competing solutions in data management and storage infrastructure. While StarWind is noted for its affordability and support, Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes are preferred for advanced features and scalability.
Features: StarWind Virtual Tape Library offers seamless integration with existing backup solutions, flexible data scaling, and affordable options for small to mid-sized setups. Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes provide high-performance storage, robust scalability, and a full-stack hyper-converged infrastructure ideal for enterprises demanding intensive computing power.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: StarWind is often recognized for its straightforward deployment and responsive support, easing implementation. Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes might require a more complex setup process, but their extensive support effectively addresses detailed customer needs.
Pricing and ROI: StarWind is favorable for its low initial setup costs and quicker ROI, making it attractive for budget-conscious organizations. On the other hand, Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes, despite higher upfront costs, offer long-term ROI through operational efficiencies and infrastructure durability, suited for businesses focusing on longevity and scalability.
VxRack FLEX and VxFlex Ready Nodes, also known as the Flex family, create a server-based SAN by combining virtualization software, known as VxFlex OS, with Dell EMC PowerEdge servers to deliver flexibility, scalability, and capacity on demand. Local storage resources are combined to create a virtual pool of block storage with varying performance tiers. The platform enables you to start small (with as little as four nodes) and scale incrementally. The Flex family provides enterprise-grade data protection, multi-tenant capabilities, and add-on enterprise features such as QoS, thin provisioning, and snapshots. VxFlex OS is the key enabler and provides an unmatched combination of performance, resiliency and flexibility to address enterprise data center needs. The unique features of VxFlex OS make it an excellent complement to Kubernetes for stateful applications, such as databases, continuous integration, logging and monitoring platforms.
For SMB and Enterprises, who either look to get rid of backup tapes completely, or are willing to accelerate backup process and add an extra level of protection, our solution is StarWind Virtual Tape Library (VTL). It is an appliance that eliminates the need in physical tape and “pretends” to be a supported tape drive or autoloader, keeping all data on inexpensive, fast and high-capacity spinning disks.
Even with explosive data growth, StarWind VTL fits the backup into backup window by accelerating it, so the process does not overlap with production time. Optionally, it creates additional copy of backup data for better safety. It is also available in a software-only form, as part of StarWind VSAN functionality.
StarWind VTL targets those, who need to replace existing tape backup infrastructure or accelerate it if regulatory requirements prohibit replacement. In case the goal is just virtualizing tape backup or creating a stretched backup infrastructure, StarWind Tape Redirector will come in handy.
