There are no limits in terms of integration.
The most significant benefit is storage flexibility. FlexPod is a reference design to build on and add the appropriate resources you need for your workloads. That's what differentiates it from something like HCI, where you have to buy certain size pieces when you want to expand. I can do just about anything storage-related with it. In a FlexPod environment, we can provide whatever you want from a data storage perspective. Replication, backup, disaster recovery, etc., are all there right out of the box. I can set up fiber channel LAN, channel-over-ethernet LAN, etc. Storage is highly flexible in this environment. I don't have to buy two or three products and don't have to do some sort of software virtualization of the storage, which takes away your performance. For hyperscalers, you have insights on the Cisco side that you can use to look at tons of stuff. From the storage side, you could put a range of NetApp tools in the cloud. You could put VMware in the cloud and talk back to the native on-prem Cisco compute environment. Their network environment extends into the cloud. There are no limits in terms of integration. NetApp is the most integrated hyper-scale for storage and moving data into the cloud for long-term backup storage. VMware is fully available, so you could run VMware or Kubernetes on VMware in the cloud and tie it to your local storage through NetApp integration. It's an excellent match because your compute could easily DR to the cloud and be ready to go with all your storage without any modifications necessary because of the native integrations. It integrates well with the hyperscalers.

Highly scalable, suitable for enterprise usage and good performance
It depends on what my business requirements are, what I'm evaluating at that point in time, and what HP provides. So, it will be difficult for me to pinpoint a couple of times because that changed from situation to situation. So if I'm evaluating the server, what kind of technologies HP is mileaging over the other competitors makes a difference. So sometimes processes, performance, sometimes memory available space, the hyper-converged, and these are the certain things when it comes to the enterprise level product. When it comes to the endpoint, it depends upon the user experience that HP provides.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The ability to create vDisks on NFS exports is an added advantage. This is very helpful when we reach RDM limit."
"The most valuable feature is the one call number for support and the fact that all the documentation comes with it. They have all of the preprepared plans for the deployment model and we can just choose which one we want for VMware, etc. The hardware is all listed. We buy that and away we go. It's called validated design."
"This sounds dumb, but it just works. I don't want to have to deal with support, and I don't need to because, again, it has just worked."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the integration and ease of use."
"Technical support has been good when we have contacted them in the past. They have been helpful."
"One of the easiest solutions to implement, maintain, and scale."
"The Cisco Validated Designs are the most valuable feature along with the Industry-leading technology, put together; and the fact that it just works."
"Simplicity and integration with NetApp are its most valuable features."
"The most valuable features of the solution are the flexibility and the availability of the machines."
"We use the solution for DDI."
"We find the deduplication and compression features to be most valuable, as well as that of the backup solution inside."
"This is a scalable solution. Our customers begin with an initial configuration and later add more servers, memory and other options to meet the demands of increased processing."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to restore lost machines. Essentially its high availability capabilities are extremely valuable to us."
"The user interface, reporting, and management are good, and we are quite happy with the performance."
"Most of the HP products I come across are they are easy to install. That's not very complex."
"Consolidation and duplications features."

Cons

"The initial setup is complex because it has to be done in a certain way."
"The ability to manage the templates across sites. We would like to easily take out the configuration of one FlexPod and copy it over, just making minor changes. There is a way to do it, but it's clumsy."
"FlexPod has not decreased the unplanned downtime incidents in our company. There was a problem with the back-end configuration and we had a downtime of three hours."
"We use technical support from time to time. Most of the time if we really need assistance we end up having to get above the tier one support. We're able to do a lot of the tier one troubleshooting on our own."
"I would like to see more cloud-centric modules that are specific to applications and more software-based solutions. That's all that is missing."
"Something that we struggle with because we're a relatively small scale organization and the administrative effort is spread across so many different pieces of infrastructure, it would be nice to have a set of tools that enables us to get a little bit more information out of our system."
"I would like them to simplify the UCS configuration. I appreciate that they have about a billion options and a million switches that you can mess with, but this creates a lot of confusion sometimes. I feel like you almost need a Master's course to figure out what you're doing with UCS."
"With the next solution, if there is a virtual Flex part where we can deploy it to private clouds or in public clouds rather tying up the hardware, it would reduce costs and complexity. Then, we could do a lot more automation."
"The interface is not fully integrated with the ESXi, which is something that could be improved."
"The solution needs to add NFS features."
"I would like to see monitoring solutions included, as well as brand support."
"It could be enhanced by improving the built-in backup solution."
"The tool has shortcomings in its performance monitoring part."
"HPE ConvergedSystem needs to improve its price."
"I would like to see better manageability and integration with third-party tools."
"Features that should be addressed concern the HPE functionality and the interaction with VMware."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not cheap, but there is a return on investment in time saved and efficiency."
"I find the licensing and pricing structure to be favorable."
"We have absolutely seen ROI. We have saved between two to four million dollars on travel alone over the past 24 months."
"We have seen a five to ten percent savings on new service deployments."
"We have seen an 80 percent improvement in application performance."
"We pay approximately $1,400 USD in total for between five-thousand and ten-thousand ports."
"The total cost of ownership with this solution is good."
"It created lower total cost of ownership. Previously, we had disparate storage and servers, and there were bits of kits everywhere. Now, we have two data centers with almost identical setups in both."
"This is an expensive solution."
"There are some extra costs in addition to the licensing costs for the yearly maintenance from professional third-party services."
"Pricing is good. We have not calculated what hyper-converged infrastructure has brought us but I think there has to be some lower cost for us, compared to the public cloud. Obviously, there would be a lower cost, probably by more than half."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"The pricing is sensitive."
"I rate the product price an eight and a half on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"The pricing is competitive. Not a major problem. We have a subscription model."
"This is an expensive system and not every customer has the kind of budget to support it."
