Offers an interpreted language, which doesn't require compilation and good community support
Glue is not mandatory. It's an option. If you have the learning capability to learn Glue quickly, you can go for it. But there are other alternatives where you will find many articles, study material, and certifications on the internet, apart from Glue. So, if Glue is not mandatory for you, go for something else. If you don't have any other option, go for Glue. But it's not easy because Glue is difficult to learn, and it is difficult to remember the syntax. Every time you need support, if you're going to have a bigger integration or connectivity with third-party libraries or services, you won't find many articles or help on the internet. However, the community is there, but you need to spend some time with them to make them understand the issue. Keeping all these points in mind, I would still suggest that if you have an alternative language to go for, you should go for it. Otherwise, go for Glue. It is not easy for a beginner to learn to use Glue for the first time. There are a few videos and courses available, but it's difficult. It's not as easy as other languages, also in terms of available content. So, it's a bit hard. But once you understand the concept, then you can potentially grasp things further. Overall, I would rate it an eight out of ten because I didn't use Glue for all purposes. I used it mainly for integration and service connectivity.

Valuable testing stubs and policy enforcement with room for better security and cost management
From an API management perspective, MuleSoft's API Manager is not as powerful as some other tools available. Features like monetization and advanced security, which are present in Apigee, are missing. I also want the API Manager to be used as a separate product apart from MuleSoft's other integration solutions. Additionally, the licensing cost is high, and many clients are looking to switch due to this.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"You don't need many frameworks or other things to run Glue."
"The most valuable features of the solution for securing APIs stem from the tool's ability to allow users to deploy policies."
"If you adopt the whole platform, you can build composable applications. This will cut your time creating new applications and updating them – once you have everything running – by up to 50%."
"We're using MuleSoft API Manager to integrate with an endpoint in our backend system to import much information into Salesforce. Other tools didn't allow for as many API calls, so we used it to create a new endpoint."
"It is a good management tool for controlling purposes."
"One of the more valuable features is the stability of the platform."
"Anypoint API Manager's most valuable feature is its connectors."
"I found the authentication features very valuable, like how the tool provides client IDs and secrets and lets you apply authentication policies. We bought the Titanium package with analytics, which allowed us to do rate limiting and throttling. The API monitoring and alerting were also useful."
"The documentation is great; it is always up to date and well-presented."

Cons

"I sometimes face issues with integration."
"In the next release, Mulesoft should make it easier for people who don't have the native connectors to build their own rather than using the APA from the power platform or outlet."
"I would like to see more automation. Operations are done manually. It should also automate in the operation."
"I'd like to see improvements in API Exchange. Currently, we can only expose APIs publicly. I want to categorize some APIs and expose them just to internal stakeholders. It would be great if they could log in to a developer portal, see our current APIs, view Swagger or RAML docs, and try request-response payloads."
"Since most components are situated in the cloud, there's one particular hosted in the cloud. This presents a considerable challenge. While all other components are implemented on-premises, this specific one isn't permitted to be hosted in the cloud as per customer requirements. Shifting this component to an on-premises environment requires a significant effort."
"When compared to other integration technologies, it is slightly higher."
"MuleSoft has advanced features but is slower."
"The solution could be improved in educational and onboarding areas."
"Better documentation to help explain each of the features would be really helpful."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It's not very expensive, reasonably priced. There are no additional costs."
"Our customers have a lot of concerns about the increased pricing. The customer feels MuleSoft is very costly, and they are also exploring other integration tools for a lesser price. Maybe we should retain the existing customers by offering some discounts. At least the existing customers can be retained this way. This is regarding the licensing part only because customers based out of North America and Europe have shown many concerns recently. They are a bit concerned about pricing."
"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"The pricing is very expensive, although you get a lot of power from the product."
"The product is highly priced compared to other advanced software. It is affordable only for tier-one customers."
"The product is expensive."
"It is extremely high, and I would rate it one out of ten."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the product price as six and a half to seven."
