Provides ease of management and has an easy initial setup process
Primarily, we use the product for network and VLAN segmentation across our hospitality property. It forms the backbone of our network, providing connectivity to devices like TVs, phones, access points, and even electrical switches within guest rooms The product's most valuable feature is the ease…

Centrally managed solution makes it easy to build one configuration and apply it to new devices
We have one or two UniFi switches, but they don't really compete with the Ciscos. It's a nice environment as far as keeping track of things and being able to manage ports, turn off rogue users, and stuff like that. The access points have been pretty convenient compared to Meraki, Lucent, Cisco, or any of the other bigger vendors that I used to deal with for other consulting projects. Ubiquiti is one step above the consumer level. They cost a little bit more, but they just seem to be drop-dead reliable, and they're keeping up with the latest standards. Their latest versions of access points are all Wi-Fi 6, and they don't take very much power when there aren't a lot of users. It's really easy to build one configuration and just apply it to new devices. It's a check mark box: Do I want this to be the staff VLAN, or the public VLAN, or the Voice over IP VLAN, or the security VLAN, or the house wiring VLAN, or the building logistics VLAN? You just check things off and then you make groups, so if you click on it, it applies all the appropriate things automatically. It makes it very easy. This solution is good for the prosumer, small office, medium office, under 500 people range, but probably over 50 people and maybe distributed around five or 10 sites. That's a pretty good sweet spot as far as the price for the equipment and the configurability, and it's just drop-dead reliable. It's been boring, which is what I love because I don't get any calls in the middle of the night that something isn't working.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very, very stable."
"The product has streamlined our smart hospitality services, allowing us to control room amenities like TVs and lights more efficiently."
"The solution is easy to set up and easy to use, unlike, for example, Cisco, which is more complex."
"We found the installation process to be simple."
"It's straightforward to set up."
"It's fairly lightweight, they don't require a lot of maintenance."
"We have scaled it without any issues."
"These switches are very stable, to date I have not experienced any issues."
"Great information on the graphical interface."
"The product's initial setup phase is very straightforward."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its reliability."
"We have integrated the tool for PoE switches and non-PoE switches. Its most valuable feature is SD-WAN. UniFi SD-WAN can access all statistics and performance data in one interface, enabling us to support clients across different locations remotely. Additionally, we can even restart devices remotely through the UniFi SD-WAN."
"The integration with the controller is one of the most valuable features of these switches. They are also very stable. For example, we have some equipment that we haven't touched for four years that is still reliable."
"The performance is good. They also have good prices."
"Ubiquiti's network management and the way you can manage many different devices on a network are really nice."
"The interface and the duality are the solution's most valuable features."

Cons

"Some users might look for high-speed switching like Cisco or Nexus switches, which can handle larger volumes. HPE's current offerings aren't as robust in that area, but they could improve."
"The pricing is expensive."
"Sometimes, we encounter the need for new technologies, especially when we require higher bandwidth. If we can't find what we need with HPE Ethernet Switches, we explore options from other vendors like Cisco."
"The solution's throughput should be increased because we often get stuck when it comes to IPTV streaming."
"It is not very stable."
"It would be ideal if the product offered more security."
"The solution is very comparable to Huawei, however, it could be more scalable. Huawei is easier to scale."
"There is a limitation of capability."
"Some of the features needed to set up the solution are too complex. There's a lot of technical information that is required."
"I would like to see the pricing improved."
"Ubiquiti UniFi Switches can improve by putting more effort into security. There are not many options in security. Other solutions, you can filter, do access control, and functionality. Ubiquiti UniFi Switches provides all the basic network security where it's all about the password for someone to access the SSID on the network, but it doesn't go beyond advanced network features of packet filtering, monitoring, and managing users."
"One area for improvement would be having a web interface directly on the device itself. That's the one thing that makes them more difficult for less experienced technicians to configure."
"It's expensive."
"The technical support for this solution could be improved."
"Functionalities can change quite quickly without notice."
"To use Ubiquiti UniFi Switches, a controller needs to be installed on a device."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an expensive product."
"HP switches are priced well."
"The tool's pricing is very cheap."
"It would be great if certain features, like licensing, were included in the base price of the switches."
"The pricing is very good."
"They are affordable and less expensive than Cisco. Their price was the decider at the time."
"It is a more expensive solution."
"This is not an expensive solution."
"There are no licensing fees; you just purchase it and run it."
"Everything was bought in a one-time buy as a capital investment, so there isn't any licensing."
"Ubiquiti is one of the cheapest WiFi network providers that provide a very good WiFi network, which is monitored and deployable. The price is very fair for the technology they're offering."
"The price of this product is cheap."
"It's around $179 a device."
"The price is very low and a good approach for a smaller company, with 10 to 15 people."
"The solution's pricing in the marketplace would probably be about three out of ten."
"It is expensive."
