Parallel data processing streamlines operations while cost and cloud integration challenge adoption
The cost of the solution is on the more expensive side, which is a concern for me. Additionally, its promotion and interaction with cloud applications are limited. The cloud version is only available in AWS, and in the Middle East, it is not well-developed in the Azure environment. For the cost to be reduced, it should match competitors. Many features need to be incorporated on the cloud.

Good storage and reliable but needs a better dashboard

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The data governance prospect... from what I've seen, that is a really powerful tool as well, to help with data lineage and keeping track of that."
"The benefit is really because of the additional speed that we have and, truth be told, the more updated ETL processes and the revamped scheduler in general."
"Distribution concurrency control."
"IBM Netezza Performance Server is a cost-effective solution."
"We are able to execute very complex queries. Over 90 percent of our query executions are one second or less. We do millions of queries everyday."
"The most valuable features of the IBM Netezza Performance Server are the NPS server because of the reduced maintenance and overall good performance."
"The performance is most important to me, and it helps our ability to make business decisions quickly."
"Parallel data processing is a significant feature for me."
"The best features of Oracle Database Server are the security, high availability, and the Disaster Recovery solutions with the Data Guard. Specifically, on Autonomous Databases, the most valuable features are the automatic scaling and CPU scaling depending on the database workload. Today, the workload is normal and then suddenly the workload gets a spike."
"One of the most valuable features is the stability."
"There is a lot of functionality in Oracle Database. The reports and the GUI are good."
"The feature that I worked with and that excited me the most is one that is not available in other databases, and it involves the use of Java Runtime."
"The solution is extremely stable."
"It is very fast. The response times are very fast."
"The database is very secure, robust, and scalable. It has all the features that you need, such as disaster recovery, replication, backup, etc. It comes with all the features."
"The interface of Oracle Database is very workable and easy to use."

Cons

"The product cost is high compared to others in the market, and this cost has become unbearable for me."
"We are not able to scale. The only way to scale is to get another appliance, but we have a customers who would need us to hydrate the data between the two appliances, and Netezza does not do that."
"Our main problem with it is concurrency. When there are too many users running Netezza at the same time, this is when we have the most complaints."
"In terms of features that I would like to see, one is the ability to actually scale out an architecture. Right now, if you buy one, it's fixed. There is no scale-up availability at all."
"Concurrency limit needs to be increased somewhat."
"Oracle Exadata's security features, like TDE encryption, are missing in IBM Netezza Performance Server."
"LIke Teradata, we can’t add a node/SPU to the existing appliance."
"IBM Netezza Performance Server could improve its interface, support for big data, and APA-based connectivity should be available."
"The licensing could be cheaper and clearer."
"If you just install a database, it's easy but if you install some other programs it can be a little bit longer and difficult to install."
"It would be better if the administrator part could be simplified. At the moment, we need specialized skills for managing or administering Oracle Database. If that is simplified, my juniors or basic database engineers could use it. Right now, we need specific administrative skills to manage the Oracle Server."
"There are SQL plan flips that are happening with version 12c. We would basically like to have the next version wherein we don't see such plan flips because they create performance issues. There are quite a lot of features that I would like to see, but this is the main one for now."
"Probably about 80% of their online documentation is useless. When you go to the Oracle documentation, you have to plow through page after page of stuff to get to anything that looks anything like an example of what it is that you might actually do. There are lots of other people who have filled that gap, and there are also websites where you can easily find the answers to most of your questions."
"The tool's price gap is a major concern. It makes it hard for others to afford it and use it effectively. More people could benefit from its features if the pricing could be made more reasonable. Many companies choose cheaper options because of this affordability issue."
"The solution could have better security and integration."
"If their database encryption features could come in bytes, that would be a major improvement. They should bring the encryption model to their standard databases as well."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution has a yearly licensing fee, and users have to pay extra for support."
"Netezza is a costly solution. It does serve a specific purpose but it's costlier than what's available in the market, if you go to the cloud."
"The pricing is very expensive. It has a lot CPUs with a lot of components in it. It also has built-in redundancy for resiliency reasons."
"I do not have first-hand knowledge of the price of the support. However, I have heard from my seniors or the experienced people who work on the pricing and scaling, the price of Oracle is a bit higher. The reason is Oracle provides enterprise-level applications, only large enterprises can afford Oracle applications or tools."
"For us as a bank, the price is not too high, but for a small business, it would be an expensive solution."
"We have bought a license, and it was a one-time cost."
"We pay for a yearly licensing subscription. Funds permitting, we have plans to increase usage for Oracle Database in the new year."
"Oracle Database is expensive."
"The licenses could definitely be cheaper."
"Our licensing costs are between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. Those are the costs that cover maintenance and licensing."
"Oracle is an expensive product."
