You can't see any metrics about how long it took you to backup the entire server. We've had a huge reduction in the nightly backup footprint size.
Idera treats a backup of a SQL Server as if it is essentially a single backup job of each individual database. You can't see any metrics about how long it took you to backup the entire server. It doesn't handle restoration to different drives very easily, and it won't create folder structures if they don't exist already. It cannot be used to implement replication on another instance without first converting files back into SQL Server .bak files. There appears to be LOTs of shortcomings. [All of these short-comings are still very much present even after 6 months of feedback to Idera. No solution is in sight.] Still has a focus on individual databases and not for entire server recoveries. Have tried adjusting max threads values, but it seems to have little affect and Idera is still researching the issue.

"The compression, because it drastically reduces the disk space."
"The most valuable features in SCOM are Azure monitoring and integration with Azure Monitor for monitoring Azure-hosted servers from SCOM on-premises."
"Because it's Windows-based, it actually reports quite well. It reports everything you can think of on the Windows server and allows you to monitor anything. It's excellent for those in the Windows world as it's very good at it."
"This solution satisfies all of the requirements that we need for our Windows-based systems, so if you are using the Windows platform then this is an easy solution."
"We are able to do problem determination on runaway processes."
"It discovers the components automatically, which is a fantastic thing. The discovery works in an automatic way, and it has a dynamic way of discovering the components, assets, and applications. It doesn't require any manual intervention."
"The tool helps to monitor Windows servers. It offers alerts from a central location."
"Being able to make and customize management packs and send out notifications is very valuable."
"I like some of their newer features, such as maintenance schedules, because SCOM records SLA and SLO time."

Cons

"The way the filtering goes, if you filter on your view, there is no indication that you have made a selection."
"I would like to see the pieces that they have put in the web only to be put into the thick client sitting on the desktop client."
"Make sure you check your backups on a regular basis. Backups do get missed with this tool, for whatever reason."
"In a future release, they should add email notification alerts."
"Regarding certain issues in the solution, it can be difficult to generate reports if we have a program that is not user-friendly for reporting. While this is not necessarily negative, we may need to use another solution."
"The initial setup should be easier to complete."
"All of the areas of reporting are very bad and need to be improved."
"The price could be improved."
"The console feature is very poor, and it would be very good for us if this were improved."
"It'll help if they can provide real-time or closer to real-time monitoring."
"I would like to better be able to monitor Oracle processes."
