Versatile integrations and reliable customer satisfaction elevate cloud service experience
For Microsoft Azure improvement, they need to enhance their support system. The first level of support should be improved in terms of quality and response time. They need more technical support at the first level, as there are currently only one or two technical people among five to ten staff members at this level. They should ensure that the first level support is more technical because we normally provide services to technical users ourselves. When an issue arises, it usually escalates to the second or third level. When facing first level support, they may have limited knowledge and only collect screenshots to forward to their seniors. They should ensure that the first level support is aligned with L2 and L3 to better assist us, especially since we mention in the ticket that our issues are related to specific problems and require that sort of support.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product is rather stable. We haven't had any issues with it in that sense."
"One of the most valuable features of Microsoft Azure is the compatibility with all of our Windows applications and other Microsoft technologies"
"The ability to quickly create and manage resources is critical to getting things done, Azure just makes getting things done a lot simpler."
"Reliable with ease of provisional services."
"The most valuable features are the interface and customizability."
"It is easy to install."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the Access Management and the PIN modules."
"Azure has improved my organization because it is a new technology and so the customers who don't have enough knowledge about the cloud delegate the administration of their cloud infrastructure to us. We incorporate and add a new service to our product lineup about how to manage their Azure. It impacts our business because we're able to incorporate this new service."
"We really like the matching and merging features."
"Profisee's customer service is very responsive, and they have a comprehensive training academy, Profisee Academy, that helps guide the implementation process."
"The product is able to utilize the SQL server toolkit and it has tight integration with the SQL server."
"The most valuable features for ensuring data accuracy and quality are mappings and creating business rules."
"The process of categorizing data, creating glossaries, and generating metadata is streamlined and less time-consuming."

Cons

"The customer support can become pricey at times if you don't have proper plans."
"I would recommend some enhancement regarding integration features."
"Microsoft should have one package for all their solutions in one place to be found."
"The subscription licensing is very complex and we would like to have it simplified."
"The license price could be lower."
"The permissions and controls in the product are not easy to use."
"The pricing could be better."
"It should have a better hybrid-cloud central analysis. Their support service also needs to be improved. Our main concern is support calls. Our issue is basically related to the technical functionality of the services that we use. It doesn't behave as expected, and support often fails to solve the problem."
"A more convenient approach would involve integrating all the pre-existing elements into Profisee itself."
"When we updated to version 7.1, there were some workflow issues."
"The way training is laid out in their Profisee University, makes it really, really hard to find what you need fast."
"Some security complexities might add time to the setup."
"Profisee could improve in providing clearer data lineage information."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Customers pay for our software and use our solution as a service through monthly payments. They don't pay the licensing fee directly to Microsoft."
"We have an annual license subscription to use the solution."
"There are added costs to the company or for scaling for most premium products."
"The product is expensive."
"The pricing model is subscription-based and it's not an expensive solution."
"It is competitive with other public cloud providers, and its price is very close to different cloud providers. There is not a noticeable difference between different cloud providers. Otherwise, it would be a risk for them to have services that were much more expensive than their competition. They're pretty much neck to neck on pricing."
"Its price should be optimized so that we can use more features."
"We are on a monthly subscription for Microsoft Azure and the cost is more expensive than some of the competitors, such as Amazon AWS. They should be more competitive with other solutions."
"The pricing is moderate, falling in the middle range—not excessively low nor overly expensive."
"We didn't come across any additional licensing fees."

Hi @Richard Tibbetts, There's no short answer to your question. Nearly all existing MDM solutions on the market offer a broad range of patterns to ingest master data from various sources and distribute cleanse and consolidated information, also to the Azure stack. Many vendors offer prebuilt connectors for the most common sources (databases, various file types, storages, business applications including MS Dynamics, Salesforce, etc.), but also support a generic way of ingesting/exposing data via Rest APIs, file drops, etc. MS MDS is an extension of the MS SQL server 2016. I don't know Microsoft plans to extend it, but I know that Profisee and CluedIn are very active in promoting their solutions as-built having Azure in mind and being a part of the stack. Informatica MDM has three types of offerings these days: on-prem, hosted MDM, and cloud-native option - they differ in the functionality and integration options. Obviously, there are many more MDM tools on the market particularly good in various data domains (products, customers/suppliers - so yours, multi-domain, etc). I think that you should start your MDM journey by answering which current challenges you try to solve or what new capabilities you need to enable to the organisation. Once these questions are answered and based on your organization's Enterprise Architecture principles, look for the best fitting tool. It may (or may not) be the one that fits the best into the Azure Reference Architecture. I hope this helped.

I agree with @InitZero...  I would add that there's no future roadmap for MDS and they don't have an Azure solution for it.  Since it's a free product with an SQL license, don't expect Microsoft to invest in it.   Even though we are highly dependent upon it currently I'm starting to look towards the future where we need to find a replacement - hopefully, a PaaS solution. It would be great if Microsoft came out with something in Azure but I'm not hopeful at this point.
