A solution that offers an informative dashboard to help with monitoring
Pros and Cons
  • "FortiMonitor's dashboard is very informative and user-friendly."
  • "Sometimes, during high CPU usage, we cannot access FortiMonitor and must refresh it."

What is our primary use case?

We use FortiMonitor to monitor memory usage.

What is most valuable?

FortiMonitor's dashboard is very informative and user-friendly.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes, during high CPU usage, we cannot access FortiMonitor and must refresh it. But we are okay with that aspect of its performance.

It would be good, however, if Fortinet improved the solution's reminders and alerts.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've worked with FortiMonitor since 2019.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution's stability a six or a seven out of ten. We're using layer 3 switches and the local routing in the firewall, and the usage is very high due to local interaction. Maybe that usage might lessen in a few months. We have sometimes encountered issues with policies. In terms of hardware, we have not experienced downtime.

How are customer service and support?

We have local support for the solution. Because we have extended the warranty, we are confident about the solution.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

FortiMonitor's price is very high. Some packages and features require us to acquire another license. FortiMonitor comes packaged with the whole solution.

What other advice do I have?

We implemented a layer 3 firewall for our local area to reduce usage. We purchased Cisco layer 3 switches for that. In the following months, we will implement local routing of endpoints through our local systems.

I only use basic monitoring in FortiMonitor because we have already refined our policies. We have a limited number of users that can access it externally. Other users have stopped using other Internet access, so we have limited usage of Forti Monitor. That's why we're confident right now about the usage of our firewall.

We have local support for the solution, and there have been no major problems. Our firewall's performance has been good, and we haven't had a system upgrade since 2020 till now.

Though the solution is expensive, we continue it because of the brand. FortiMonitor is preferred because it simplifies monitoring every network performance detail.

FortiMonitor is not difficult to use. Every user has a preference for what they look at on the dashboard. They can see what the LAN's usage is or what is relevant to them. It's pretty easy to use the solution now because of the new technology and user interface presented to every user.

I rate FortiMonitor an eight out of ten.

useful monitoring capabilities, scalable, but logs could improve
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of FortiMonitor is the overall ability to monitor the health of the environment."
  • "There is room for improvement in the FortiMonitor report. It is not ideal for showcasing to tech customers or managers, especially when trying to display high CPU usage from logins within a specific range of months or the most recent month."

What is our primary use case?

FortiMonitor is an appliance with a distribution of Linux Ubuntu and it is working with the Fortinet cloud. We monitor logs from the Fortinet FortiGate and Fortianalyzer environments. We attempt to achieve efficient utilization of the CPU and memory through logs for troubleshooting.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of FortiMonitor is the overall ability to monitor the health of the environment.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in the FortiMonitor report. It is not ideal for showcasing to tech customers or managers, especially when trying to display high CPU usage from logins within a specific range of months or the most recent month.

The PDF documents are not generated, CSV files need to be exported, and Microsoft Excel needs to be used for filters. The solution is too manual to provide to our customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used FortiMonitor for approximately within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is an additional cost if you want to increase the scalability of the solution. However, it is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Fortinet has a highly experienced technical team for firewall-related solutions. However, for other more specialized solutions, such as FortiMonitor, there is a lack of adequate staffing to provide timely support when tickets are submitted. Moreover, the team may not possess the required knowledge to offer the necessary assistance, which can result in longer wait times for someone with the appropriate expertise to provide support.

I rate the support from FortiMonitor a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of FortiMonitor can be done in two ways. The first way is to try and use an open appliance, but in some environments, it is not possible. It's necessary to collect API to send logs. The documentation is okay enough technically to complete the installation in the customer's environment.

To set up an environment like Hyper V, it is necessary to establish minimum requirements, including CPU cores, memory, and hard disk space. After the machine is powered on, configuring the network interface only requires a few steps. Once the environment is configured, the collector will transmit information to the cloud. It is an easy process overall.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are additional costs needed for certain functionality, such as scalability.

What other advice do I have?

I rate FortiMonitor a six out of ten.
