The templates give a pre-build structure
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool has highly detailed debugging features."
  • "The tool crashes and has high memory consumption."

What is our primary use case?

It is an integrated development environment. Every developer who uses .NET has to use Visual Studio. Without it, developing, building, and releasing products is very difficult. Visual Studio has many features for development. It helps with the full development life cycle. The tool is primarily for coders.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution provides us with a set of templates. It reduces the development time because the templates give a pre-build structure. We can build our code on it. The solution provides automation testing tools that we can use for unit testing and stress testing. The product provides a mechanism to build our code and release it wherever we want. If we use CI/CD, we do not have to use Visual Studio.

What is most valuable?

We can use the IDE to develop code. The product gives hints and autocomplete features for code. IntelliSense is very good. It improves the coding experience. The tool has highly detailed debugging features. We can debug our code and easily find the problem using it.

We can do TDD using Visual Studio. Visual Studio helps us to create test cases for our functions. We can run the test cases or make them a part of our CI/CD pipeline. Whenever we run CI/CD, the test cases will run. The debugging tool is very good. It is quite advanced. We can track down our issues easily. It gives us a full stack trace.

What needs improvement?

The tool crashes and has high memory consumption. Sometimes, it doesn't support certain features. The performance must be improved.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is quite stable. It crashes when we have huge codes.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can scale it vertically by increasing the RAM. Five to seven developers use the solution in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

We do not use technical support. Usually, we search for the problems in Microsoft’s forum and solve them ourselves.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple. To deploy the solution, we downloaded the setup file and installed it.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation can be done in-house.

What was our ROI?

If we do not use tools like Visual Studio, we will have to do much work ourselves. The product improves our productivity.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We can pay an annual license fee. We can also pay per user. The tool is affordable. It is not expensive.

What other advice do I have?

People who want to use the product must get familiar with it. They must read some documentation. They must understand what they want to achieve using Visual Studio. Overall, I rate the product a nine out of ten.

Great flexible development witha good online community and extensive framework support
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool is free, resulting in no costs associated with its use. The absence of price makes it cost-effective."
  • "There are not any specific areas for improvement since there are so many libraries and frameworks already available."

What is our primary use case?

We use Visual Studio code, which is an IDE for building code from scratch. It is a simple development IDE that allows us to write code.

How has it helped my organization?

We have a free hand to build anything from scratch without relying on low-code providers with limited features. Although it is time-consuming, it provides flexibility.

What is most valuable?

We are satisfied because it allows us to build anything from scratch without dependency on low-code providers with limited features. It's an open framework.

What needs improvement?

There are not any specific areas for improvement since there are so many libraries and frameworks already available, and we have not even touched everything yet.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been working with Visual Studio for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have not encountered any complaints about stability. It is a straightforward process with nothing troublesome.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are no scalability issues. It's all about your coding.

How are customer service and support?

We have not contacted Microsoft support. However, there is a community on Microsoft's website where we can post feedback and receive help.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have not tried any other tools like this one. We just worked with this tool because it's good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very simple. It's all about the quality of the product you are developing using the tool.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it ourselves. It's about being a good developer to use the tool.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment is notable as it's a free product from Microsoft, so there is zero cost.

The tool is free, resulting in no costs associated with its use. The absence of price makes it cost-effective.

Straightforward environment and flexible
Pros and Cons
  • "User-friendly ID and direct integration with GitHub are the most valuable."
  • "It would be great to support other languages and applications, and that is one of the things we can improve."

What is our primary use case?

Test Professional is a versatile solution that can be utilized for a wide range of projects such as integration, analysis, reporting, development, and BIS or data-related projects that are based on Microsoft technologies. While it is a useful tool for many purposes, we primarily use it for security testing as it excels in this area.

What is most valuable?

User-friendly ID and direct integration with GitHub are the most valuable. We can integrate it with other platforms and even use Python. So, it's not limited to just one platform and has good coding capabilities.

What needs improvement?

One significant issue is when there are multiple annual updates, and we are developing a project, it should be compatible. We may need to either upgrade or downgrade the project, depending on the package. That can be a difficult and bothersome task. We need to maintain the same version of the environment. So compatibility should be improved.

For additional features, it can also support the Python language. We can develop using Python features in Visual Studio. It would be great to support other languages and applications, and that is one of the things we can improve. Visual Studio is very open, and we can develop in no time.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used it for five to six years, primarily for community, enterprise, and solution projects. I am using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable enough, I would rate it nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It has good scalability. We have six to seven users currently working with it.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is straightforward. The deployment process can be executed quickly. Once it's in our system, we can use it for any development project based on the project we need. The deployment can be done in-house without any technical team necessary.

What about the implementation team?

Deployment usually takes about ten minutes, and I can do it myself in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's costly, but not too much, and it's just within our budget. One good thing is we can make use of community relations.

There aren't any additional costs, like extra system integration or something. However, there may be some differences in the pricing since the PS will be different. As a standard version, it will have most of the capabilities.

What other advice do I have?

The environment is straightforward and user-friendly, so there's not much of a learning curve. I used it for my project, and it worked well, and I definitely recommend it for future use.

Overall, I would rate it a nine out of ten.

Can be used for developing desktop applications and to do some integrations
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the solution are its ease of use and availability."
  • "The solution's documentation could be improved because it keeps disappearing from the solution."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for developing desktop applications. We also use the solution to do some integrations, APIs, DLLs, and all sorts of things to solve different problems.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are its ease of use and availability. The solution's developer community is also very vibrant.

What needs improvement?

The solution's documentation could be improved because it keeps disappearing from the solution. There used to be references material that were incorporated in the solution, but most of it has moved to online. The solution may need to have some simulator for Android.

The solution’s integration with Mac could be improved. It would be easy if the solution can simulate or have an environment that mimics it during development work.

The solution needs to find a way of integrating newer technologies like AI and machine learning.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Visual Studio Test Professional for a few years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have no issue with the solution's stability. It does not crash or anything in a development environment.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup is very straightforward, especially if you know what you are doing.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented the solution through an in-house team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Visual Studio Test Professional is not an expensive solution.

What other advice do I have?

We use the solution for customer-specific tasks like integrating devices, data migration and encryption, etc. We once used the solution to integrate medical devices, like laboratory equipment. We use the solution to extract data and push it to a database.

The testing part has been a failure. Sometimes, it is difficult to follow. We document our procedures very well. We know what a certain item or core section needs to do, and it is easy to test.

The solution's cross-platform test and support have been a problem with the delay. Sometimes, porting the application from Android to a different operating system is a big problem.

You can develop a very wide range of applications using the solution. There is no application that Visual Studio Test Professional is not suitable for. Since there are a lot of skilled people on Visual Studio around, you don't need staff to work with the solution. There is a large repository of sample applications, code, and solutions to all sorts of problems we will encounter that have already been done in Visual Studio.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
